    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! We absolutely love our 2013 Quest!!! It's by far the best and most reliable minivan we've ever owned!!! (Our last Sienna died from the infamous and catastrophic Toyota oil sludge defect. 😵🤬) The Quest has better quality than the last-generation cheaply-made, but immensely popular Sienna and it's tons more comfortable and reliable than the Odyssey!!! We're so happy and glad we chose Nissan!!!

      YES! You are correct! Very reliable mini van and it's one of the best designs of all mini vans (in my opinion) and very comfortable as well with a very powerful 3.5L V6 and smooth CVT transmission. Sadly, they discontinued making the Quest after 2018.

      @@aaronweiser5421 I’m at 190k no issues yet. At this mileage I had a squeaky idler pulley. Pretty easy and cheap fix. My projectors (the literal projector, not the clear housings ) had pitted and had to be replaced. I had HID so it wasn’t cheap but the headlights are awesome now. One door won’t open about 10% of the time with power but my kids toy got jammed it in really hard so it may have messed the door up and maybe it’s not Nissans fault. That’s all so far. Thank you for your video; the second bolt to the side from the oil plug, shown at first of your video, on the left side of screen, it points down at an angle and is on the transmission -
    is said to be the overfill limit bolt, used to check the level, remove and replace when it is at a trickle; do you agree with this? Thank you

    • @MrBeeHS
      @MrBeeHS  Před rokem

      Yes you are correct and I do agree with you. The bolt that you saw in my video that was pointing at an angle is the overfill limit bolt. 👍 If you decide to go that route using the overfill limit bolt, you need to warm up the van to normal operating temperature at idle(if you don't have a scanner). If you do then the temperature needs to be around 100-110° F. Then remove the bolt and it needs to be a thin stream of oil draining then it's good. If you see a lot coming out, then it's too much oil and just let it drain to a thin stream. That might be too complicated for most DIYers out there. So I didn't cover the overfill limit bolt.

      It's called Loctite. It comes in a little tube and it's a liquid. You put a little drop onto the thread of the bolts. It helps prevent the bolts from getting loose. Once it is dry, it's like a silicone to hold the bolts in, kind of like glue.

    • @MrBeeHS
      @MrBeeHS  Před rokem +1

      You are very welcome 😊
      There is a way that you can check the level, but it's just going to be only for a reference point for you because Nissan didn't make a dipstick for the Quest. I did try to look for it, but no luck on that.
      What I did was buy the long dipstick that was used for checking Mercedes-Benz transmission fluid, which you can purchase on eBay for about $10-$20 and I use that to check the level on it.
      I did have the dipstick before hand for my Mercedes before changing the fluid on the Quest and that's how I determine the level before and after changing the fluid and also measure all of the transmission fluid that came out of it and that was about 5 quart total.
      I hope this helps and if you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me. I am here to help and thank you for subscribing to my channel and watch my videos. I am glad that my videos are helping people fixing their own vehicles. 😊

      My 2011 Caravan was like this. No dipstick. I found a technical spec that showed how you can take a dipstick and engrave markings on it. It showed all the heights (cold and hot) and so I just etched the backside of my engine oil dipstick and check it that way. (Of course after wiping the oil off first. )

  • @falcondrgn
    @falcondrgn Před 10 měsíci

    Don't you need to factor in the temperature of the fluid when performing this service? How do you know its 5 quarts?

    • @MrBeeHS
      @MrBeeHS  Před 10 měsíci +2

      You can if you have the tools that they use at the dealerships to measure the temperature. But for DIY mechanics or mechanics that don't work at the dealership and don't have the expensive tools, you can definitely perform other ways that the results will be the same to get the job done like the dealerships or even better.
      How do I know that it's 5 quarts? It's the original fluid that came out from the transmission. The transmission is a seal CVT transmission and the whole system will take about 10 quarts to flush the system. That the torque converter will hold approx 5 quarts and the rest is the other 5 quarts in the pan.( I did measure the fluid that came out of it)
      But it's not necessary to flush the transmission unless you have a very dirty transmission. Drain, replace filter and fill is good enough that your transmission will last a lifetime. Just need to make sure to replace the fluid and filter every 30,000 miles because CVT transmissions are very sensitive to the maintenance time.

    Does the Quest have that second paper filter too? I haven’t jacked mine up yet to do this job as I want to do all the jobs at once and I’m waiting on a couple more parts. Another video showed a cvt service for a Nissan without a dipstick and said you need to check the level through an overflow bolt at a very specific temperature and of course level (not just jacked up in the front as an example. ) but in that video he didn’t drop the pan. If you google cvt service looking for parts sometimes you see this second filter.

    • @MrBeeHS

      The difference is the pan. When you buy the mesh filter for your van, you need to go by the total bolts for your transmission pan. Because there are two different pans for the Nissan Quest. If your Nissan Quest has a long pan like mine, then your mesh filter will be bigger. If the pan is square then your mesh filter will be a small one. If the symptom was happening before the fluid change, then it's your transmission. The CVT transmissions are very sensitive when it comes to servicing. Usually it needs to be serviced every 30,000 and 60,000 miles is pushing it and you did it at 80,000. So that might be the cause for it. It's slipping and won't go into drive.

    Just took a look at unneath the car and on the driver side I see an metal pan which looks like it is aluminuum and has thick metal fins on it, would that be my CVT pan. The shape is also not rectangular like the one in your video. Do you happen to aware that it changed between 2014 & 2015?

    Hello @MrBee Handyman Specialist - Thank you for the video, this is somthing that I can definitely handle.
    A couple questions
    - The service manual on page MA-10 says it needs CVT fluid 9 qt (US measure) - Genuine NISSAN CVT fluid NS-2. How did you determine that it needed 5 quarts, just by calcalating how much came out during flush?
    - I read that CVTs are pretty sensitive to the type of fluid but I saw you use NS-3 alternative instead of recomended NS-2? Are NS-2 and NS-3 interchangeable
    - This link (www.amazon.com/dp/B08T1RVCBF?ref_=cm_sw_r_apan_dp_WXMYP6CXNZ9YPS74ZBJA) shows the filter and gasket but amazon says it is not compatible with Nissan Quest 2014. I also checked the ebay link (www.ebay.com/itm/203878760230?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=8aiaAFkeQOK&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=39q-52hiSV-&var&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY) and it also show in-compitable with 2014 Quest SL. If you can share your actual link from where you bought, it would be great!
    Thanks in advance!
    Thanks to this video, now I have subcribsed and will keep an eye for more Quest Videos.

      Hello, first of all I really do appreciate that you have subscribed to my CZcams channel and I hope you can learn from my channel.
      I believe that your 2014 Quest has a different CVT transmission from my 2015 Quest. Your transmission pan is not the same as mine. I would recommend you to buy it from an auto parts store like AutoZone, O'Reilly's, Car Quest, etc. They should have your filter for sure because they don't have my filter at all. They kept selling me the one you have, which kind of square, am I correct?
      Yes you are correct that Nissan quest calls for NS-2 CVT transmission fluid and I did use NS-3 fluid instead. NS-3 fluids are backwards compatible.☺️ Except one condition.... if a transmission calls for NS-3, it's not recommended to use NS-2. If a transmission calls for NS-2, you can use NS-3. ☺️ You are also correct that CVT transmission are very sensitive of certain type of fluids.👍 But just don't mix it up with ATF because ATF is not for CVT transmission.
      The manual calls for 9 qts of CVT fluid, because they are added from the torque converter (approx 4 qts inside torque converter). That's only if you do a complete flushing of the whole system.
      There is no need to flush the whole system because you need a special machine to do that... which is at the dealership (which they will charge you a lot for that service). Replacing the fluid that came out from the pan is adequate to prolong the life of your transmission. After 2 changes, you'll totally flush out your transmission.☺️ Don't forget that service your transmission fluid every 30,000 miles.👍
