    This series of interviews is a gold mine. I can't believe it doesn't have more views. I have a hunch people will come around to discover these. I've rewatched a few already.

    David has been a HUGE inspiration for me! I can't even put it into words properly. I fell in love the moment I bought the Live at Liberty Lunch cassette ...yes cassette....back in 1989 or 1990 in upstate NY. His playing and tone just floored me. Combining country, blues and rock...oh man...... by 1993 I was living and playing in Austin on 6th street in Joe's Generic Bar where we all started out to meet other players. I lived on Guadalupe a few minutes walk from Antones, and used to hear David play regularly with Bill Carter and the Blame and later Storyville. It was a spiritual experience for me every time!!! Great interview Josh! Thank you.

      Oh man, Joe's Generic Bar!! I'm a player myself from the Dallas area, but I had a bunch of musician friends who lived in Austin, and I played on 6th Street and had many good times in Joe's Generic Bar. It was a true hole in the wall joint, but it had a great vibe!!

    An awesome interview and two great players. David is a die-hard tone chaser and has a colossal sound. He plays loud but is so musical. His style and sound is very distinctive and his tone is truly as big as Texas. He is very open in interviews and shares some great insights about playing and recording. I always learn something. Thanks Josh, this is fantastic!

    Josh this is amazing. I discovered David through the legendary Bob Harris - British DJ and former host of The Old Grey Whistle Test - an iconic British music TV show. Bob played Storyville and raved about David and I agree with Bob. Sadly my sense is that he is not as well known in the U.K. as he should be. The union of him on guitar and Malford on vocals was a thing of beauty.

    A key common thread I'm seeing to these successful musicians is the parental encouragement from a young age. This is also proof that you don't have to have it in your family to be successful at something, just a cool parent that encourages you and makes these things available for you to succeed. That's a key starting point.

    Excellent job! 👍 What is a bit uncomfortable, and I see this with a lot of these web video interviews. It appears that interviewers forget they are being watched too and a lot of the time they are looking away from their guest and it looks a bit like they aren’t really paying attention. I bet the guest gets that vibe sometimes too. YMMV

      Yes! It totally works as a podcast! But I think as a podcast Josh may feel the pressure to put them up on a schedule...I love how organic they are, like he is geeking out with a friend. Maybe he runs out of friends if he has to do one every week!

    • @stekks
      @stekks Před 3 lety

      @@meirajhusain1214 Why do podcasts need a schedule? These youtube vids aren’t scheduled either. When a podcast is published it will appear in the app.

      @meirajhusain1214 Před 3 lety

      @@stekks You're right, podcasts don't need to be on a schedule. I assumed that...because all the comedy podcasts I listen to are. And I also heard podcasters say that its important to do that to grow and hold on to an audience...but you are right. This is different. It can be like Dan Carlin's hardcore history. The episodes come when they come and people still listen to it.

    Soundmen should not be telling an artist (especially of the caliber of David Grissom) how to play...unless they want us coming out front telling them how to run sound. Waaaaay over the line.
