    You can improve the driving feel of minivans, but you can't improve how the drivers feel about themselves. That's all it really boils down to. Driving a minivan alerts everyone that you have multiple children and probably a spouse, which makes you sexually undesirable. Driving a SUV/CUV gives you plausible deniability as to the children/spouse and allows you to make eyes with the attractive commuter in the lane next to you. "He probably needs that big vehicle to haul his speedboat every weekend, because he's wealthy and successful and has lots of leisure time," you hope she's saying to herself. That's the entire SUV vs. minivan argument. One is fantasy, the other is painful reality.

    What I would like to see is a woman who absolutely mandates she HAS to have a SUV drive a Pacifica for a few weeks and then get her opinion. Now, maybe it is because I live in Arkansas, but every woman I know absolutely HAS to have a SUV. When you mention mini van to them they absolutely state they CAN'T be see in a mini van. I don't get it at all. The reason I mention this is I have a friend who recently traded in her Jeep Liberty for a used Buick Enclave. The Enclave is freaking HUGE, but it has no space inside. I just don't get it. Also, most of these women also state the NEED at least 9 inches....I just don't have it.

    Once you drive a minivan you will realize they are better cars then SUV. People buy SUVs because of looks. If I’m spending that much money I want a car that can do it all. Today’s minivans are very luxurious and have a lot of utility. You get s car and a truck in one vehicle. I have a minivan and love it.

    I sold used cars at carmax for three years. I can count on one hand how many preowned minivans of any brand I sold to women under 45 years old. They could have 4 kids and only 18k to spend and would be looking for a tahoe with 120k miles on it before they got into a 2 year old dodge grand caravan. I'm not kidding it got to a point where I wouldn't even ask young families if they wanted a minivan, it was straight over to the cheapest crossover we could find them.

  • @aquaticko
    @aquaticko Před 7 lety +2

    One observation I have to make. I work with a recently-divorced nurse with three young children, and for her, a big point of a recent purchasing decision between a crossover and a minivan was the availability of a three-person bench in the middle row, in which she could seat and reach all three children from the driver's seat. Now, I didn't know her at the time to update her (and for image reasons, it still probably wouldn't matter), but historically speaking, minivans have primarily had 2 passenger seats--a bench or captain's chairs--in the middle row, whereas SUV's/CUV's have typically had a three-person bench. Minivans are now more widely available with three-across seating in the middle, but if people like her don't know how minivans have changed--and have psychological reasons not to learn--then it becomes all the more obvious why people justify CUV purchases over minivans.

    The "Durongo" lol.....Minivans got a bad name because the vast majority of them when they first entered the market they were piles. Back when I was a broke dumbass kid, I could only afford to buy used Aerostars, Caravans, and Astrovans to haul around my kids that I had too early. No matter how well I drove and maintained them, they fell apart worse than the middle east. Minivans created so many hardships among my generation, I'm sure the hatred for them will last a lifetime. I know I'd be hard pressed to buy one no matter how well they made it.....Well, If a minivan came with an optional V8, 4WD and 35" mud tires I might consider it. As long as it also had windows. I wouldn't want to look like a rapist.....Oh and yeah, fuck crossovers.

    Uh oh, why did I put sway bars & coilovers on my Previa then... =(
    I should point out that although I'm an "enthusiast" I do daily drive a minivan or 3 row suv (not a crossover, but will be getting one of those soon). with the prices we have now and the stagnated salaries in America, it's impossible to afford a practical car and a fun car, so my SUV basically has to do it all and then some. at least now without little kids I can switch out the van; but it's just going out for an MDX =/

  • @GeekTherapyRadio

    I like cars. I have a 2010 Audi S5, V8, 6MT, a 1983 Delorean, 5MT, and 2015 VW Jetta (Auto). I only recently sold my 2002 Toyota MR2, 5MT.
    I also have a wife and 1 child thus far. As a car lover, I will choose a minivan over a CUV/SUV any day of the week. They are infinitely more useful in every conceivable way that matters day-to-day.
    In my opinion, CUVs and SUVs are the actual soul crushers I'd be embarrassed and depressed to drive or be seen in. Bland, boring, less useful, less practical, gas guzzlers with worse driving dynamics that are a absolute nightmare to actually use and park in populated areas compared to a minivan.
    And this may be an unpopular opinion, but it seems women don't care NEARLY as much as men think they do if a guy drives a minivan. If anything, it likely implies he's fertile AND has a healthy confidence in himself. "Dude can make babies and his baby-maker doesn't need compensating for..."
    At worst, I'd wager a woman thinks absolutely nothing about a guy driving a minivan versus a guy in a giant SUV. The SUV is probably more likely to incite a "douchebag" knee-jerk reaction. Just a guess. Point is, stop worrying what women think about the car you drive. 99.99% do not care as long as it's reliable and looks cared for.

They all look worse than the Pacifica personally from a stylistic standpoint. Ground clearance on a minivan would just ruin their driving dynamics, plus it's really only useful offroad. Compromising a minivans on road performance to improve off road performance isn't a worthwhile trade off in my opinion.

    People hate minivans because they're slow, they handle like shit, and they look bad. Those are the reasons

    • @darienmiller1032
      @darienmiller1032 Před 4 lety +1

      They're not slow though, all of them are pushing 300 HP. They have more horsepower and outpace many SUVs/CUVs. And shit handling? Minivans handle FAR better than people give them credit for. Sure if your standard of handling are sports cars and super cars, the handling is subpar. But if you compare them to comparably sized non luxury crossovers and SUVs, they match and surpass them easily. The minivan body shaped is really well suited to good driving dynamics. They're more aerodynamic and suffer from less body roll than SUVs due to their lower center of gravity, which helps with stability through corners and winding roads.
      This misconception of minivans being slow and sloppy at handling in comparison to SUVs needs to die, because it's absolutely not the truth. Having driven both a Mazda 5 and a Toyota rav 4 (I'm learning to drive at the moment), and the mazda 5 blew the rav 4 out in terms of handing and cornering.
      Also, while a lot of minivans do look bad (so do a lot of SUVs), there are also a bunch of good looking ones. I think the aesthetics aspect is largely exaggerated in my opinion. The kia sedona and Chrysler Pacifica look fantastic, as does the 4th gen Odyssey. If you look at minivans outside of America, and in Asia for example, you'll find a extremely diverse and good looking set of minivans, which includes the Buick gl6 and gl8, geely Jiaji, trumpchi gm6, maxus g50, Honda Odyssey Mugen, Volkswagen viloran, etc

      @cytrynowy_melon6604 Před 5 lety +3

      First thing: Pacifica is not ugly, just look at it. Second thing: Most SUVs drive worse than this minivan. It's because of higher ground clearance.

    • @cytrynowy_melon6604
      @cytrynowy_melon6604 Před 5 lety +4

    • @darienmiller1032
      @darienmiller1032 Před 4 lety +1

      I don't know how anyone can look at a Volkswagen atlas or a Toyota highlander, and then a Chrysler Pacifica and a Kia Sedona and say to themselves the former looks "cooler and more badass" than the latter. The idea that all or even most crossovers look better than all or most minivans is just a bandwagon thats all too easy to hop on. Minivans worldwide, not just in the US have come a long way in regards to styling, and even moreso in handling and driving dynamics. If you compare a non luxury crossover and a comparably sized minivan, the minivan is most likely going to out handle the crossover. I experienced this first hand when I test drove a Mazda 5 and a rav 4, the Mazda 5 completely outclassed it the rav 4 in cornering and handling.
