  • The Eton Elite Traveler AM FM LW Shortwave portable radio does a decent job on the medium wave broadcast band during the daytime hours. It has a few "birdies", but can be eliminated by the use of a passive loop! A great radio for sure.

Overall, the FM and Shortwave performance is fantastic. The MW band has it's small issues, but overcoming them are not that big a deal. If you can get this radio at under $40, you are getting a bargain. Loving it!
    Thank you for watching.

I wonder if it would be possible to make an aluminum foil shield inside the radio to stop the display interference? How does the sound compare between the non SSB Skywave and the Eton on a clean AM signal? I plan to get a Skywave someday. My Eton only has a few AM birdies and one of them is on a station I listen to during the day but a loop clears it up. My Sony P26 is much more prone to picking up interference sometimes than my Sony P36 which is strange.

It`s a shame that they released this radio with these KNOWN issues with display interference and unbearable hiss when using headphones. Plus, you will be rendered DEAF if you do a scan of the shortwave band while using headphones by extremely loud pops! This could have been a great radio if the designers actually cared. Well, except for the fact that it goes through batteries like candy. Better get a HUGE battery to plug into the power jack on this thing unless you want to recharge batteries every 20 hours of use. Using alkalines would be insane. Reception is very good on all bands but they could have used a better MW antenna. The one inside it is smaller in diameter than a pencil. These can be modified by mounting a super MW antenna to the top of the radio for excellent reception and I imagine that would solve the birdie tone issues.

Can you recommend some super high quality radios? I would like to have an alternative to obtaining news from the internet. Thank you.
