This is the EXACT video tutorial I've been looking for....thank you.
Same here! Exactly what I needed to know. đ Thank you!
And meee! thank you so much x
This was terrific, thanks!
Best DIY video Iâve watched in a long long time. Itâs was straight to the point, not a lot of chatter, just great instruction. I have a small painted canvas that I was going to throw away, but will keep and create something for my sewing or vanity area.
WOW straight to the point and exceptionally easy to follow instructions. LOVE it. Thank you đ
My wonderful husband gifted me a Cricut Maker for Christmas and I'm SO excited to make my first project for my daughter! Great tutorial, thank you!
Couldn't get my vinyl designs to stick to my canvases, your video definitely HELPED alot. Thanks!
You are so sweet đ I couldnât imagine why someone would try to comment something negative! Keep up the hard work! Thanks for the video!
Such a great video!
Im going to try it, I have the canvas but had never thought to paint it first- thank you!!!!
Great video. I've been wanting to try this for a long time and a lot of the videos were so long and background music, etc. This was so easy to follow and your got right to the point. Thank you.
The kind of tutorials I like. Short sweet and to the point. My transfer tape be sticking to me when I do that big of a piece too lol so I was glad it wasn't just me and we are human haha. Thanks again.
Thank you for this video. I am a cricut newbie. I learned so much of what I was doing wrong from watching your video. Thanks again and I am subscribing to your videos.
Thank you for subscribing, Maria! đ

Absolutely Beautiful!

Great video. I didnt think it would be that easy.
I really enjoyed your video. It was simple, to the point and informative. I didn't catch the type of vinyl that you used. I've recently tried iron on and it was a disaster.

Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for this video.
It's my pleasure! đ
Thanks đđœ
Thank u!!
Thank you so much love this. What size mat is that?
Love this video. Iâve been looking for this. If I use HTV does heating the painted canvas leave marks?
I'm new to cricut. It's hard to find a great tutorial. I've been doing self learning, trial and error. I was looking for your type of video. I have a canvas, which I needed to put a prayer on for a wedding gift. My first vinyl did not stick đą. I found another thicker vinyl for Cricut Joy. Then, I bought Mod Pudge to prep the surface for the vinyl. It stuck. I wasn't sure if I could Mod P. again, on vinyl. Thank you for this video. â€đ
Great video thank you. One thing I didnât know as a beginner here is that you can use reg vinyl for canvas? I going to attempt a reverse canvas like this. Would you be able to do one for us, love to see reverse canvas done like this. Ty
I will put that on my list of to doâs. Thank you for the suggestion đ
Beautiful, what fonts are you using there for the verbiage?
Can I use a matte finish midge lodge!
You made it look so easy, just have to look for the right size machine! Do you think I can print from my tablet?
I have the Cricut Maker but the Cricut Explore Air 2 would work great too. I think you can do this with a Silhouette as well, but I don't have any experience with those machines, so my apologies on that. Yes, if you are working with a Cricut machine, they have the Design Space app that you can download and it will work with your phone, tablet and desktop computer. I use my phone and iPad all the time for Cricut projects. đ
What are you using for standing your canvas up?
I enjoyed the video. Could you tell me what kind of vinyl was used on the canvas? Thank you.
I used Cricut Everday Vinyl. Itâs just regular non-permanent vinyl. đ
Such a great video. What are those leg type things you have thatâs holding up your canvas from being flat?
looks like push pins
@@carolclark2803 thanks for answering⊠she only gave me a heart lol
My apologies Sharon. Yes. I used push pins. Thank you, Carol for responding. đ
Your project turned out great!
What did you use to raise the canvas off the table and where can I purchase it? And where can I purchase the contact paper?
I use push pins to raise the canvas off the table. You can get them at Walmart or any office supply store. I purchased the contact paper at Walmart as well. :)
I just came across your video ive had my circut for 1m an been wanting to do something different with paints..i love marble painting an your video helped me out alot i love this video Thank Tou. Hope you could do a marble painting with vinyl if not its ok. Thank You
I am so glad that my video was able to help you. I will keep your marble painting suggestion in mind. I need to think of something to make. đ
@@TheCraftyAuthor i dont know how to paint but i just made a beach an birds an put drifting on a memory an a marble painting. Faith over Fear..
Absolutely! I do most of my crafting and painting, trial and error. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnât, but you never know til you try. đ
great job what size did you make it to fit on the canvas
Tara- I donât remember the sizing, as I made this video a while ago. The way I measure is by taking a ruler and measuring the width and length. I usually leave about 2â on the top, bottom and sides. Then I use those measurements to fill in the rest of the canvas. đ
hey great video. what was that sticky paper you used called?
I think you might be referring to the paper I used to adhere the vinyl to the canvas. You can use any brand of clear transfer tape for vinyl.
Awesome!!! How many coats of the acrylic paint did you use on the canvas?
I believe I did 2
Is that just regular permanent vinyl? Is it holding up after these few years that have passed?
Hi what type of vinyl is this? Is it removable or permanent?
I loved this video... Just getting started with my cricut. I love it when folks try to control the feedback they get and say "keep it positive." That means you are unavailable to constructive criticism. Guess what, you can't control people like you try to do in your personal life! haaaa But I loved the video, the information AND the brevity.. Some of these videos go on way too long and yours was seriously perfect!
Absolutely beautiful. How do you know what size of the vinyl to cut and apply on the canvas.
I measure the size of the canvas and then come in about 2â on all sides. I size my lettering and design accordingly. I also create a box in Design Space with the same dimensions and fit my design inside to ensure it fits correctly. I then remove the box and cut my design. đ
@@TheCraftyAuthor omg I'm learning so much from you! I went to Michael's and bought the mechanical parts to make a clock. Made my own clock using your method. I wish we can upload image in comments. Thank you so much!

very mice tutorial what kind of vinyl ?
Thank you đ I used Cricut Everyday Vinyl.
great
video i also like the fonts what fonts did you in this video?
Thank you đ Unfortunately, I donât remember which fonts I used. My apologies.
I was wondering, do you need to paint the canvas before you apply the vinyl or could I leave it unpainted and still apply it?
It won't stick without painting it...I just tried twice, failed epicly. I'm gonna give this video a try, hopefully with better results. âđŸ
I am trying to find this type of self sticking vinyl but TRANSPERANT. Please help.
When getting ready to make it. What cutting option are you using on the cricut?
Joycelyn- I choose the Vinyl setting. If you are using a Cricut Maker, I would choose Everyday Vinyl.
Thank You.
Hi, I have just begun making canvas boards with vinyl and my first attempt didnât go so well. I am using permanent vinyl and when I attempted to use the transfer paper it stuck and adhered to that instead of the canvas.
1) is it okay to use permanent vinyl?
2) how do I get it to unstick from the transfer paper when applying it to the canvas board?
Thanks,
Angela
Hi Angela- My apologies for not seeing your message sooner. I am hoping you were able to get this figured out. If not, here is what I would try:
1. Yes. You can use Permanent Vinyl. It will take it at least 24 hours to set up on your canvas.
2. Put something firm, like a hard cover book under your canvas and use a scraper to adhere the vinyl on to the canvas. It will take a while. I recommend painting the canvas as this will help the vinyl stick to it better. Go slow and slowly pull back ensuring that all of the lettering goes onto the canvas. Patience is the name of the game with this type of project. It can be tedious, but once it's on there, it looks great!
Do you have to use modge podge or a sealant at all?
At 6:40 she applies Modge Podge.
I donât see the link for the contact paper you used and the vinyl. Can you share please? I wanna make something for my sonâs dorm room. Thank you so much!!
Also would this work if I wanted to add layers?
Yes. Please see my note in your original question.
I loved this tutorial. I didn't catch the type of vinyl you used for the canvas. Did anyone catch what type to use? I thought maybe heat transfer vinyl but I think that's just for clothing, towels, etc.
I was wondering the same. I assume itâs just permanent vinyl?? But Iâm a newbie so really not sure.
Hi Tara- I used regular, permanent vinyl on the canvas. I put a layer of Modge Podge on top to seal it. You can also use HTV on canvas and I actually like using it better. â€ïž

Do you have to paint it in order for this to work?
Julia- No. You do not. đ
I followed this and the vinyl doesnât stick to the canvas. I used white acrylic paint and permanent vinyl, did I get the materials right??
Hi Brenda- Yes. I used the Martha Stewart Acrylic paint and Cricut Premium Vinyl. Iâm not sure why it wonât stick for you. It worked fine for me. I did do this tutorial a while ago though and they may have changed the formula in the adhesive. You would need to check with Cricut for that information.
What size canvas was this and what measurements did you use to get your words that big? Iâm new at using my cricut! Lol thanks in advance :)
Hi Kaylee-
The canvas is 16x20. I create a square in Design Space and then type the words. I size it in the 16x20 box in Design Space to figure out placement. I always cut a little smaller so it will fit on the cutting mat and canvas.
@@TheCraftyAuthor Thank you so much for answering me so quickly! I truly appreciate your help and your tutorials! âșïž
Good day, I would like to print photos that I captured
Hey! Where can I get that type of paint
Shareka- I got the paint at Joanns. I believe Hobby Lobby and Michaels also sells it. Itâs acrylic paint. đ
Hi! Where do you get your canvas blanks for wall decor?
I purchase them at Michaels. They come in a 6 pack, I do believe.
@@TheCraftyAuthor - thank you so much! Do they already have wall attachments?
So beautiful may I ask what kind of paint you use on canvas ?
Thank you đ I use Martha Stewart Acrylic paint.
Thank you đ
@@TheCraftyAuthor Thank you đ„°
Do you mirror the letters?
Hi Linda- For this project I did not. If I was putting it on glass, I would.
What kind of vinyl did you used ?
Hi Stella- I used Cricut Premium Vinyl
Hi! Did you have to mirror the image?
Hi Josie- On âthis particular project, I did not mirror the image. I do that when Iâm placing it on glass or using HTV. đ
The Crafty Author thank you for your reply đ
Hi! Loved your video. I do have a question, how are you able to cut out that big of a design on cricut ? Please let me know đ
Cynthia- My canvas was 16 X 20. I created my design in Design Space and then changed the measurements in Design Space. The largest you can make a design with Cricut is 11.5â X 23â, which will fit on a 12 X24 mat. That is largest size mat that Cricut makes. That is the size that I used and I sized my design down to make sure that it would fit on the mat and also be the right size for the canvas. If you go into Design Space and create a box that is the size of your canvas, you can actually place your design in that to get a good feel for what it will look like. Just make sure you delete the box before your cut your design, otherwise you will cut the box out too. I hope I answered your question. Please let me know if I can help with anything else. :)
@@TheCraftyAuthor That is only for basic cut right? Because if I place the image in that box and remove the box cricket canât handle that because then you have to do a print and cut
I used permanent vinyl. How can I remove it without any damage? I misaligned it.
Suzette- You should be able to peel it off. Just go slowly and use your weeding tool to get the tougher pieces off.
I never knew you could use contact paper on vinyl I always thought you had to use transfer tape.
Hi Nancy- I can't remember where I learned that trick from. I have to say, I really prefer the contact paper and it's so much more affordable. đ
Will it not work if you donât paint the canvas?
Not as well with the permanent vinyl. If youâre using HTV it will adhere fine. đ
The mod pog is it clear?
Hi Latiffany- Yes. The Mod Podge dries clear. đ
Thank you, for answering.
Youâre welcome đ Have a great day!
What type of vinyl do you use to stick to your craft paint?
Hi Vonne- I used the Cricut Premium Vinyl. I think they might have changed the name to Cricut Everyday Vinyl.
@@TheCraftyAuthor Also a newbie here, is that different than heat transfer vinyl ? I herd that you have to use heat transfer for canvas.
I hear so many ppl say to not seal the vinyl, Iâm so confused.
Laura- I always seal my vinyl so it doesnât peel up in the years to come. Different crafters do things for different reasons and preferences. I recommend trying it both ways to see what you like, because in the end, what works for you is what is most important. Happy crafting!
What kind vinyl did you use?
Tina- I used regular vinyl on this project. You can also use the new Everyday Vinyl on it as well. đ
The Crafty Author is this just the regular vinyl for cups and such ?
Christin- Yes it is. đ
The Crafty Author thank you so much
@@TheCraftyAuthor what do you mean "regular vinyl"?
Fabric iron on vinyl?
Thank you very much , really enjoyed watching what you have done. Also obtained useful tips đđŸ
Which type of vinyl did you use?
Regular Cricut Vinyl.
@@TheCraftyAuthor permanent vinyl?
