what am I doing wrong
I tried putting HTV on a canvas tote bag and it didn't adhere. I have a regular heat press. thank you for sharing

Do you have to mirror the font when you use the HTV on canvas? What's the difference between using the HTV and regular vinyl?
When using HTV you will need to mirror the image.

This is true. You cannot apply vinyl directly on the canvas because it’s not a smooth surface and the vinyl needs that

You can press straight on the canvas!
Can you paint the canvas first than add the vinyl?
I would not recommend HTV over painted canvas, no. I would try permanent vinyl instead. If you need a little extra adhesion you can use a blow dryer to gently warm the vinyl.

I would find something to put underneath the canvas within the frame so you can get a good press.

Did painting first (acrylic?) have an effect on the heat transfer?
I'm thinking of trying something like this too, but wonder if acrylic paint on top of the cotton canvas hurts the HTV. Did you try?
