- We're not even through the first month of the year and we've seen SO MANY new rumors about whats going on for the next Nintendo hardware, currently assumed to be some kind of Switch 2. Lets talk all the latest leaks and rumors including release date, pricing, tech specs, whether or not it has an OLED display, backwards compatibility, and more.

I personally think that if the Switch successor is really coming in 2024, we will hear about it by the end of March. I really hope they release it this year!
the switch released 2 years after it was first confirmed. not sure why anyone thinks it would now be 6 months.. they wouldnt be able to make enough consoles, let alone everything else that would be involved in the preparation like worldwide shipping, promotional tour, and other events etc.. Then there's new game development.
@@MrMark1 What you're talking about is Nintendo saying in 2015 they were working on new hardware or the "NX". The company was in a very different place at the time with successive quarters of financial losses due to the failure of the Wii U, which may have played a part in that. The Switch wasn't unveiled until October 2016, 5 months before the release. Coming off of the success of the Switch, Nintendo is in a much better place right now. The reason they've kept quiet about is it because they're under no pressure to move on from the Switch. Plus Shuntaro Furukawa has said that while they weren't planning new hardware in FY2023, they are prepared for a "smooth transition" into next gen hardware.

I remember how some early 3DS models were leaked by Chinese factory workers. Something similar happened last year witht the PlayStation Portal
@@PitchBlackSensei Just for reference, the Wii U was announced in June 2011 and came out Nov 2012, a 1 year and a half gap. The Wii was also announced in May 2005 and came out Dec 2006

One thing I'd like them to upgrade is def the interface. Current Switch interface is quite dull, and makes me want to go back to the DS-Wii and 3DS-Wii U days. Man those systems had a lot of personality! Even turning on the consoles and without playing any game was entertaining and way more immersive.
The menu music was so good!! Internet browser settings theme, miiverse ost, all classics for things so innocuous!
I desire a better UI 100%. It needs music to add the charm. Usually all of Nintendo's interfaces were simple but great to scroll through. For some reason the Switch maintained it's too simplistic and boring design
The store! The store is so extremely slow that it is a pain to use it.
Keep in mind that the next console will, as far as I'm aware, be the first Nintendo console without Satoru Iwata's involvement since his passing. We don't know how the company will be run long term, so I can see Nintendo doing a straight up iterative, more powerful Switch rather than go for something more unique or pushes the medium like past attempts have.

@@Undisclosed_FBI i dunno. I wouldn't expect "switch 2" from a Nintendo run by Iwata. But the current leadership? Who knows. And that's my point, I dont think we know the current leadership enough to really guess how they'll handle a new console from scratch. Just a "switch 2", an updated Switch, is as good a guess as anything right now.
The name being "The Super Nintendo Switch" or "Nintendo Switch Advanced" makes a lot of sense.
My wish list for the new system is most games to consistently have 60 FPS, 1080P, OLED screen, joycons without drift, a home screen with more customization and personality, and backwards compatibility with switch games.
I don't need it to have cutting-edge specs, but a direct upgrade, while correcting areas it falls short in, would be more than enough for me.
The name will depend on what the killer feature is. If it's a spec bump them super switch could work. If they add a gimmick then it'll be focused on that.

Good God, yes! They need a proper D-pad. All pro controllers have one. Xbox and PS all have em too. Absolutely no excuse why they can't have a D-pad joycon after all these years.
If they bring back the concept of detaching the joycons, put them sideways, and use it as a controller then you aren’t getting a d-pad on the joycon.

@@ITSAHARDNUGLIFE that would require a level of modularity that has not in Nintendo’s wheel house since the N64 expansion pack. I know that seems like a very sinple thing to add/do, but Nintendo likes keeping things as simple as possible.

Im absolutely fine with 720 handheld and 1080 docked if they up the frame rates. Even a solid 60 with some hitting 90 would be a huge improvement. Unlike the big boy consoles aiming for drool worthy visuals nintendos always been about the ganeplay and feel of a game and focusing on frame rates is very in line with that.
Also, if they do internal ssd I'd much rather they ditch sd cards and move to additional m.2 drives. Maybe a removable card you seat the drive in so you can whip it out without needing a tool like you can with an sd card.
Please, would totally be okay with a system that reliably hits 1080 60 on everything (maybe with maybe tacked on 4k upscaling) instead of unstable 4k 30
Also I really don’t see them using ssds since they’ve been using microSD since the 3DS and the tech keeps advancing with 1 and even 1.5 tb cards hitting the market
After getting the Steamdeck OLED, I realized how useful a 90Hz display actually is. You can run at 45fps for larger games and it's a nice sweet spot between 30-60, as well as run lower power games at a full 90fps for extra smoothness. Ori and the Blind forest at 90fps HDR on Steamdeck OLED beats the switch OLED version for me
2 dealbreakers for me would be if it doesn’t support backwards compatibility with switch and no OLED display (assuming it has one). Switch games are way too expensive over the long term to just be stuck on the switch and requiring us to keep it to play them. And not using OLED off the bat would immediately be a downgrade for OLED switch owners. OLED has also become more ubiquitous and affordable now
it is not a given that the new hardware would be more expensive. The Nintendo Switch uses 9-year-old hardware with a 20 nm process. With the new chip, we could be looking at a 4 to 8nm process which might not be any more expensive than the old hardware initially was.
The rumors range from 2 to 4 teraflops for the new system. A few people have predicted higher. For a handheld, 2 teraflops might be the most realistic. Anything less than that would be disappointing. I would love to see 4 teraflops in dock mode. Imagine 1080P in handheld mode and up to 4K in dock mode. That would be very nice.
Exactly. As powerful as a Steam Deck in handheld mode and an Xbox Series S in dock mode would make it very competitive in this generation.
I would predict lower, probably 1.5 tflops handheld and 2 tflops docked. Actually I think Nintendo would use a heavily customised X2 chip instead of t239. I doubt Nintendo is gonna use an easy to guess architecture code name like nvn2, which I believe is the rumoured ‘switch pro’ project instead. Both with full feature and not digital only, they may do a $199 version that remove the gimmick for the new console and also being digital only after a few years as well as a $449 ‘pro’ version more inline with the spec people expecting, 3 tflops portable and 4 tflops docked

With the nine year difference in technology, the next Switch could make a big leap. Why give us a mediocre system when they will want it to be viable for years?
Maybe Nintendo will go for a gimmick like VR, or a camera.

My proposal for a switch successor: Nintendo Attach & Switch
Hardware Spec:
Power: about equivalent 2013 version PS4/Xbox one or steam deck, 1.5 tflops portable and 2 tflops docked
Graphics: 1080p30/720p60 OLED handheld, 1440p30/1080p60 docked
Same cartridge slot except with a piece missing, allows for switch compatibility but new game can’t fit in switchs’ cartridge slot
7” version sold for $349, with a mini version(5.5”) that have LCD for $299
From factor/gimmicks:
A screen and 2 joy-con similar to the switch
The joy-con is modified to remove joy-con drift as well as the addition of pointer control
The new joy-con have a mechanism to swap out the directional button for a D-pad(included) and swap out the main button for a GCN layout(layout piece sold separately)
The switch screen also have a piece of slide rail at the top, allowing the new dock(which is sliced into) to show the screen of the switch
The top slide rail of the attach & switch can also let the switch ‘attach’ other accessories(sold separately)
e.g.
A screen accessories to put on top of it for a DS-like experience but can also be held separately with plugged in joy-con for a more Wii U like one
A front/rear camera + microphone accessories allows for AR stuff but also can be used separately with the kickstand for motion tracking/allowing the game to work when docked
A 3D screen accessories for everything the regular screen accessories do but also have a 3D slider to allow for stereoscopic 3D
A plastic piece allows for VR experience(not as great as PS/Xbox)
Software/Switch Online:
Street pass is coming back, this time used the joy-con to track steps and stuff using the motion sensor
The attach & switch have more software features like Wii, Wii U, DSi and 3DS
A photo app for some photo editing
A sound app for play around with recorded audio
A world news app similar to the Wii
A weather app
A camera app
Mytendo: a upgraded Mii with clothing support
Nintendoverse: Nintendo’s take on the metaverse, which allows for interaction for your Mytendo and also chat with others with picture, share flip note and have game community. This time with ai assisted filtering
Switch online is altered to have 2 tiers
P2P online is now free
Base tier for $29.99 for NES, SNES, sega genesis, master system, N64, Gameboy and GBA games alongside dedicated servers
Expansion pack for $39.99 for GCN, Dreamcast and DS games at launch, with Wii and 3DS later

I think that 1.5 teraflops is not good enough. I realize this is possible, but it would be very disappointing. We are talking about the next-generation Switch that should last for years. I believe the rumors that this will be called the "Super Switch." We should be looking at a hardware transition like going from the NES to the SNES.
Reportedly, Nintendo told developers a couple of years ago to get ready for 4K. I think that they will stress 4K play even if it is accomplished with DLSS.
Since Switch technology is nine years old, it is reasonable to expect a major hardware upgrade and not a wimpy one. I am expecting/hoping for more than 2 Tflops docked. This is certainly possible with 4 to 6-nanometer chips. The latest iPhone has a graphical power of 4.29 Tflops. That is equivalent to a PlayStation 4 Pro. In fact, Apple is starting to push the iPhone as a portable gaming device for Triple-A games.

The one reason I could see nintendo trying a 120 hz panel isn't for 120 fps games but so they can do 40 fps games. That's the one route I could see them use a 120 hz panel for if they wanna give perhaps 3rd party devs the flexibility if they can't reach 60 fps, they can at least offer 40 fps

Something I realized was that all of the stuff that I was potentially excited for in a switch 2 (Higher refresh rate display, HDR support, enhanced upscaling, better controls) Valve actually offered in the Steam Deck OLED. Nintendo started the trend of these handhelds but I feel like they missed the boat on offering a "new" experience in the space by keeping the switch around so long
I'll probably still buy it for the exclusives, but probably not right away.
I honestly can't believe these rumors(no really shouldn't if we're being realistic). So I think that it be in our best interests if we simply just wait to hear from Nintendo about a switch 2.

This sounds like a switch pro… they will have to come up with something new, otherwise it will be a bit boring.
I'm fine with a boring upgrade...so long as they port more GCN and Wii and other games to it, or remasters or whatever. Not sure what gimmick they could do next but seems like VR would be a great direction, but as a side feature.

2021 people were saying a switch 2 release was imminent, were in 2024 and it finally might actually be releasing this year
I just hope that it is a LOT stronger than the current Switch. With the pc handhelds going down in price, I don't see a weaker Switch 2 doing so well among adults. Nintendo will always be popular, and for parents with kids. But the Switch brought something new that didnt exist, and the 2 won't have that advantage.
I could see doing 300 or 350 for all digital with LCD screen and a OLED switch with a game cartridge for $450-$500
They have to compete with series S, Nintendo don’t need that high of a profit margin for the base model. I would expect a LCD 5.5” version at $299 and a OLED 7” version for $349
@@QnjtGWonQNqVsbYyzjx4 if Nintendo with your expected price I would 100% live it for the OLED because that is the one I am waiting for and $349 over here would like $509 in total which is not my favorite price, but more acceptable then the ps5 slim price that is around $730 over here with tax already included. Now if Nintendo become stupid and pulls a Sony thing and up there price were it is the same price as the ps5 slim console without a game than I am going to be pissed off even with a game I still don't like that price. It is getting way to close to a budget pc build if I was to build one. If I want higher fps and go into graphic whore mode I got my high end pc I already built for that native 4k gaming with raytracing enable and DLSS 2.0
I think that all the models are going to launch with an OLED screen if they ask Samsung for it because Samsung already makes the displays for the current switch OLED
120hrz display would be nice, but I'd be happy with 60 since that's what most games would probably be running in anyway. More important would be color accuracy and brightness for outdoor use. Something with reduced glare would also take priority for me. I would also like 1080p handheld, maybe 1440p, depending on the display size. My oled switch screen is a pretty good size for me, and I don't want something too heavy and cumbersome.
Will be waiting to see how much is upgraded to 60fps. Really hope it gets lots of support like the series x did. Time will tell

I think Nintendo are having huge internal debates on how to deal with this new console. I wouldnt be surprised if newer Nintendo employees want to have a powerful console like the PS5 and the older gen (who are still working at Nintendo) want a simple update to the switch.

These leaks keep saying the next Nintendo console is gonna be coming "this year" for the last 4 years. I don't think Nintendo is gonna release a new console unless the switch stops making money

People are forgetting that PS4 can run god of war ragnarok, last of part 2, red dead redemption 2, elden ring. And I don't think in this gen we haven't seen games going beyond these games

If you want Triple AAA Games and Switch Emulation, then Steam Deck is still the better option, but Switch 2 is a more user friendly device... as long as you have the budget to say so 😅🤷♂️
Keep in mind. When the Switch launched it already wasn't more powerful than the PS4 or Xbox One. But it still took advantage of tools that those devices didn't have available. And it has outsold both of them in record time.
It's not about the hardware. It's about the software and the marketing. If your hardware sells, 3rd parties will make sure they make something for it. A PS4 level device with a much better CPU of course, and proprietary techniques such as DLSS, will make for a very capable device. Nintendo is in good hands with Nvidia. This is Nvidia's real first breakout success with traditional gaming hardware under Nintendo's wing, they're going to make sure they go all out for Switch 2 and anything after it.

My issue with Nintendo has never been hardware (except for the Wii-U), instead my consistent gripe with Nintendo is how they favor Zelda & Mario over their other IP's. They literally have great IP's sitting in their vault collecting dust until a new Smash Bros comes out. I LOVE a new Zelda & Mario game like everyone else but when that's all we see, and we don't see another Metroid Prime, F-Zero, or Star Fox, why bother upgrading? Hell I'll take a new Ice Climbers, Mother, or Pit game too lol. I'll take another Chrono Trigger or Illusion of Gaia over Zelda & Mario at this point.

Usually Nintendo consoles are marketed towards the Japanese audience and there are Japanese gamers which they have 10% smaller hands than American gamers

I’m GLAD it’s going to be $400. Making the switch $300 greatly limited its capabilities. $400 will ensure we get a much more powerful nvidia chip with possible super resolution up to 4K when docked with no real loss in quality. Even nowadays most games don’t look much better than compared to the PS4 era. Which means that most games will be near the quality of current gen consoles. The future is bright

64gb storage is also fine, not sure why people try to make an issue of it. Thats what the SD card slot is for, which is also a lot cheaper to expand. The internal storage should be just for system related stuff, maybe some other file and some pictures and videos etc.
Currently in the CZcams channels of Nintendo Jp, America, UK, France, Espanna and Italia the trailers for og Switch and Switch lite are now privet and delisted. Switch OLED trailer is still up on every channel... I don't know how long that have been the case or why Nintendo is doing it. It could be a copyright thing, the preparations for the new console or something completely random. Theorize whatever you want
Im hoping for Switch 2 to have a substantial power and performance upgrade from the original. The switch not running its OWN games at a stable 30 is terrible to me, Im hoping the next console will have the power of a PS4 with stable 60 and hopefully 6-7hr battery life. That’s all I could ever want, on top of backwards compatibility of course.

I don't think 120hz is happening. A lot of games don't even run at 60. Having 60 fps being consistent on the new console would already be a huge deal.
One thing i would love to see is M.2 support. I think it's incredibbblyyy wishful thinking, but load times on the Switch feel very slow, especially compared to any modern device.

I think the console won't have switch in the name. To me it doesn't make sense to keep it in without being confusing. Because at that point it might as well be a switch pro.

I really hope a decent number of people out there have discovered that physical Switch cartridges literally render micro SD cards COMPLETELY unnecessary. The thought of buying one of those cards has never entered my mind, because I have physical games and my Switch is still swimming in free space. Those 32 GB are totally sufficient if one just plays games physically.
Digital games ARE a massive rip-off designed to give you less for the same cost. Physical games have ALWAYS been WAY more convenient than digital games. Don't be fooled. "Convenience" is being able to play your games when you want, with no installations, with complete control over the game access, and not having them take up all your console storage.

you can tell from the stuttery performance of Arkham Knight, data streaming from the cartridge isn't fast enuff. the 64bg storage is so you have to buy additional storage.
Yea definitely time for an upgrade. 32 GB cartridges? No reason why they can't be say like 128 GB. Specially since SD cards have had it before 2010 and microsd has 1 TB for a few years now.

64 GB internal storage and 8 GB RAM is ridiculous. If it has support for expanding storage with an NVMe, I think it'll be fine.
Watch Nintendo port some of these Switch games to the Switch 2.
I want the next switch to still be compatible with the doc. And I want it to have a dock upgrade.
Like I got the OLED and mainly use it in dock. If everything stays compatible and the dock is upgraded, to where it can be a standalone device and have the option to plug in my switch.
Alternatively they should revise the lite before coming out with a whole new version, but give it dock capability. Some people like the lite because it's more portable and unibody design. Giving the option to dock will give the more freedoms that they currently don't have
Stable 60fps is already difficult, so i think 120Hz display is just wasting power and money.
The idea would be to run games at 40fps with less input lag and not get any frame jutter. Kind of like the Steamdeck

400 is too high, they won't sell many at that price. I think 350 is more realistic. And is still more then the current OLED RRP is.

Nintendo would be stupid to make a digital-only console. I'll eat my words if they do it; but Nintendo knows its consumer base will ALWAYS want physical copies. Are digital sales healthy? Yes. But so are physical sales in Nintendo's case
I thought dev kits for the Switch 2 were referring to the unit as NX2, where the Switch was codenamed NX. Therefore isn't it logical to think that Switch will also be a part of the new system name in some form?
I'm honestly desperate for new hardware. The Switch feels old and boring. Its not even my favourite place to play my Switch games any more ever since I've got a steam deck.
