    Man, I get emotional thinking about how much Jamie has helped the UK (and the world). Food is so obviously such an integral part of our lives and is a massive driver of inequality, there is still a lot to do, but its amazing what he achieved. Should have been knighted, seriously!

    Step 1 Bring back home economics classes in school - ensure everyone knows how to cook basic meals.
    Step 2 Educate people.
    Fizzy drinks, takeaways , choc,and junk food.
    A wholesome cooked meal far cheaper
    A big pot of stew - vegetables, a turkey leg, etc will last a couple of days.
    Like him or hate him, at least Jamie is trying to improve the lot of those at the bottom of the ladder.

      you have hit an important point re: healthier AND less expensive (cheaper may have negative connotations in some quarters). These do not look like wealthy people, not necessarily poor (this is UK not the developing world), but not 1 percenters either. How do they afford takeaways every day for families of four or so and still save for important family goals? probably they cannot. Not cooking for themselves is likely ruining their health and their finances.

    • @Joseph_Dredd
      @Joseph_Dredd Před 2 lety +1

      @@richardwallace6313 Yes agree. I also have wondered how these people can afford takeaways everyday as they're pretty pricey.
      Can't beat knocking up a stew, or even something as basic as a large salad/new potatoes. It isn't necessary to eat meat every day although it is nice :)
      Not being able to cook for oneself is a serious problem - worse than not being able to drive or swim!

    I think I'm one of the lucky ones that has grown up with Jamie. My appreciation of cooking started with Nick Rhodes and Ainsley Harriet. I knew I wanted to be a chef like them and even styled my hair like nick. As he fell away, Jamie came in and blew my mind. From the early days of the naked chef right up until present day when my own kids were watching his kids doing their own stuff. He has made me a better chef and cook by just being himself. By showing us all what we can do and what we can do together and for each other. Big love to you Jamie and to your family x

    It honestly never occurred to me - until very recently - that I've actually started learning basics of the basics of cooking by watching Naked Chef, then Jamie at Home, then 30 minute meals... eventually yes, I migrated over to SeriousEats and Kenji's FoodLab, watched some Ramsey's videos - and then returned back to Jamie's youtube channel.
    Jamie, if you're reading this - you've for sure changed this lad's life! Cooking is one of my favorite things, for over 20 years now, and I may not have been even nearly this food and health conscious if I didn't have access to shows and other content you did.

    • @machinedgod
      @machinedgod Před 2 lety +6

      @@mynamesucksbad No.
      I needed a person who wasn't focused on precision, foreign ingredients and difficult, time consuming dishes - like majority of cooking shows at the time were. This is exactly why his first show is called "Naked chef".
      Plus - you don't really know what is healthy and what isn't unless you start looking beyond culture in which you were raised.

    I was never taught to cook. I was managing to do a bit better than this lady, but it was assembling pre-made items, not cooking. Due to my chronic illness, I wasn’t able to get to Jamie’s Ministry of Food in Geelong (Australia) even though I was only 20 minutes away, but I was still totally inspired by this series and through Jamie’s shows and other cooking shows and CZcams videos I have taught myself to cook and now cook about 90% of what I eat from scratch and am working on finding recipes I like for the other 10%, which is mostly condiments and the odd can of baked beans. I’m determined to figure out a recipe that’s just like the blue labeled tins of those too!
    The Jamie at Home series inspired me to grow my own vegetables too.
    Thank you Jamie. You have made a huge difference in my life 😊

    Speaking as a Canadian, who was a single working mom a half century ago, and got little Government aid, I'm absolutely gob-smacked with these, (unfortunately,) stero-typical welfare moms with their nice Government subsidized houses, take-away dinners, bad diets, electronic toys, and the like. Since when has being a single parent become a life-style choice? My English and Scottish grand-parents emigrated at the turn of the last century, coming from a life of hard-working poverty! My parents volunteered to join the military during WW2 and travelled over-seas to England and beyond to fight Nazi Germany when they were still teen-agers. Apparently, we were made of sterner stuff in the 'olden days'. As the saying goes: 'nothing good ever came out of paying people to not work and sit around doing nothing!'

You can start teach online cooking lessons for children, with fewer ingredients, that could be found in each country and that wouldn't be expensive. Children and teenagers might surprise you, chosing to learn how to cook themselves and eating healthier.

    I am shocked at the fact that many many people do not know how to cook. Many that do don't know what healthy cooking is. Their thought is at least it's not take away. Maybe it's the disconnect from the land. 100 years ago and much more so before. There was less urbanization. More rural or farms if you will.
    There is a young couple across the street. Just married. The new bride rumor has it was supposed to be quite the cook. Judging by the amount of times I see the new husband run out at dinner time and return with take away just shortly later.....that might be a bit of a stretch.

    "Poor" people are struggling, yet go out and eat McDonald's etc so often. If you're "poor", how can you spend like 6 quid on a meal deal there which makes you full for like an hour at best with little nutrition. You can get a week's food for one person for like 20 quid even now with inflation. Jamie's angry here in the past and doesn't know who to blame. It's 100% the people's fault, nothing to do with the government etc. Learn to cook, it's not hard AT ALL. LEARN. That woman at the end spends more a week on takeaway food than I spend in 2 weeks of shopping for ACTUAL, proper food to cook with. I get a 10 quid takeaway maybe 2 or 3 times a MONTH. The morons in this country, and they blame anyone but themselves. And our tax is paying for them to eat such crap.
