With the tackle s there's day when they do use this technique .and yes they don't no how to change to the otherside. Like Wayne said there is alot of niss tackle s with this technique and some looks like there is going to be a bad connection

What you mean .... this is rugby if you cant tackle then it's pointless you need to know ways of tackling a quicker or larger player from other angles or even a player who is stepping

Can’t see the purpose of the bit at the front about putting adidas on Adidas and fern on fern when they don’t actually tackle like that in Union. The coach himself said referees will blow you up.. they are all hitting with the shoulder in the actual drills at waist and below. You can’t actually follow a player’s core who is going at speed and stepping.. one on one.. you’ll still get beat most of the time. Effective lone is flat and gang tackle is on. Overall a good video.

He was just making a point to ensure that your body and head alignment were on the correct side of the attacking player so as to avoid head injuries. He progresses it to a low chop/cheek on cheek tackle.

I don't agree at all with any drills that teaches kids to tackle over waste line. That allows the attacker to still move his legs. If the attacker is bigger or stronger this technic is absolutely wrong. You MUST tackle just above the knees to stop the legs from moving and be effective on bigger players than you.

Yes and no! Johnny do you have a nfl background? Because Rugby reason you tackle above the waist is not only are you tackling but also trying to prevent the ball from getting passed to the next available player, 'offloading'. Only time you go for the legs is if the attacker is too big and no match for you.

+Jonny Cash hes not saying to tackle above waste, only to watch just above the waste (the core) cause the core doesn't lie, feet and shoulders do. Watch the core and then you know where they are going. he always mentions cheek to cheek witch if you do then you will never be above the waste. Higher tackles are more used in sevens or in the backs for 15s when you are trying to stop the offloads.

tackling just above the knees will invite a knee in the face or shoulder. he best place to put a tackling shoulder is on or slightly below the belly button where attacking player will bend. it is the use of the arms wrapping and squeezing the legs that will slow them from moving, but the tackler has to be able to drive forward so leg position in the tackle is also key.

John, I was usually at least 30cm shorter than a target and the most effective target for me was just below the hip or right in the gut/solar plexus, usually from dummy half (yes different code, same principles). I had as many tackles as our forwards every game, sometimes more. Very effective.
