I use Mono Red when the ladder gets too damn fast. It's fun but definitely has it's shortcomings. Running out of gas and dealing with larger creatures seem to be the worst issues.
Mono red does seems brainless. Sometimes, you can win fast, or sometimes it just straight up loses against mono black and/or green decks with fight rigging with no answers against their creatures.
