  • On November 20, 2023, Kramnik posted a very interesting paragraph on his profile on chess.com. As many of you know, Kramnik has been using this profile to accuse cheaters. This time he took a stab at me. These are the games that caused the former World Chess Champion to suspect me of cheating. Let me know in the comments what you think.

    I think it's time for Kramnik to apologize. He's finally getting caught up in his own conspiracy theories here without even engaging his brain for a second. It's absolutely ridiculous to accuse one of the best online players in years of "cheating" when literally every child knows that this player himself vehemently condemns cheating. Instead of just looking at points like a moron, Kramnik should also look at the games. Hikaru makes tons of serious mistakes that no computer in the world would make, but his opponents sometimes make even more serious mistakes. That's just the way chess is, and just because Kramnik himself is a comparatively weak online player is no reason to condemn every better player for cheating. It's just getting embarrassing.

    • @wtfpwnz0red
      @wtfpwnz0red Před 5 měsíci +41

      Yeah it MIGHT be fishy if Hikaru didn't have a long history of great over the board performance, or if he wasn't regularly playing live in front of an audience in online games.
      Watching these compilations, you can see him reasoning out the moves, talking about alternate lines, and reacting to his opponents' plans.
      You can also see that not only does he make his share of mistakes, but he catches them more often than his opponents.
      It's not like he's standing next to a lower rated player who's out-analyzing him in real time like some other players who have been suspected of cheating.

      Um, this is a lot to take coming from Kramnik. For a minute, in his matches vs. Topalov, he was going to the bathroom VERY frequently, to the point where Topalov's team was trying to lock it down. Why would Hikaru need to cheat and start cheating now with a multi-decade record of spotless integrity? Plus the current high profile, there's too much success to risk. Anyone who has been following Hikaru any length of time is going to say it with me: "Nope, he's actually THAT GOOD." And not to mention at least one episode of poor sportsmanship and bad etiquette in recent matches from Kramnik. Namely, a poorly received loss to one of the Nodirbecks.

    As a mathematician, Kramnik’s error is to draw a conclusion from a “biased sample” of Hikaru’s games. Given the number of games Hikaru plays there are bound to be streaks of 46 (say) games that look superhuman or unlikely, but they’re not actually that unlikely given that you’ve got tens of thousands of 46 games in a row (including overlaps) to choose from, given the sheer number of games he plays against opponents who are generally significantly inferior. The bias comes from drawing conclusions after first picking the best streak.

Even the 2400s are not immune to getting adopted and speedrun at will. I also think Kramnik is not handling retirement well, it would be a tough transition for most players.
