He was probably playing on his own first two games. And the third one he used an engine. This way he still gets ELO points for beating Hikaru.
I had this happen once where it said +16 rating points so I assumed I had beaten the cheater, but he was probably not cheating in that exact game.
This happens a lot tbh. When I end up opening several games to review I find banned accounts for fair play that I beat. Smart cheaters only cheat in some games, and only a few moves so they can still lose while inflating their elo and ego.

it's easy to understand, the engine has to calculate everything again after 1 move, while human can calculate a line and premove, that saves 3 or 4 seconds, maybe more

@@mikejameson7678Its depend on the kN brother. Some Chess app analysis has cloud server that can run 20K kN~100K kN which can run 30 depth in 2~3 sec. No matter how much human can calculated its best recently just got 15 depth~20 depth even in classical games. For additionally that app has engine that run in Stockfish 16(4200 ELO). Making 20 depth alone in blitz is enough to defeat anyone, and the engine can set that just in less than 1 sec with 50K kN, the problem is just how you moved from the engine notation to the actual game.

It sucks because they only seem to catch people who just cheat like crazy, but im certain they cant do anything about people who use stockfish just in tough positions a few times in a game. That is enough to make all the difference, unless you’re playing hikaru

@@user-qz6nk1le5n it depends i think, but im definitely not someone with knowledge to speak on it. From what I understand it can be noticed or not. The better someone is at chess the harder it would be i think. As bad players who might not play well but just use whatever the “best” move is sometimes will not notice their move makes no sense without the follow up moves. Its a shame but hopefully they improve ability to detect it, as it’s definitely a problem.
Yeah there are people who lose their queen like complete noobs and then start to use stockfish, to beat me. Of course they win, I can see when someone is cheating I know how a bot plays. Normal people usually lose the game or get lucky (because I make a stupid mistake) after they lose their queen, Stockfish just pins down my queen like it's not on the board at all and beats me with it's rooks.

idk i doubt that he could reach an equal endgame with hikaru without assistance. most cheater have no idea what they are doing (>1200)otherwise they wouldnt be doing it, i think he prob cheated a couple moves in them and then let stockfish take full control.

Cheaters are dumb, and sadly they have increased immensely in recent times. On lichess for example, in 7 out of 10 games you play, the opponent is cheating or will cheat at some point during the game. It's very sad. Online chess is dead because of these idiots.

I get many of those super geniuses who are 800-1000 for weird reasons. I'm quite stuck in the same ratings and a tournament 300-1000 higher is easier.
It's a lot easier to beat cheaters when you play as white. As black it takes them a lot longer to find the squares mentioned in the engine line. Sometimes they have to get out of their chair, and turn their head upside down, to figure it out. If the websites removed the letters and numbers from the sides of the board, every cheater would take an extra few seconds per move. BUT, they'd all get better at saying the alphabet out loud, and counting.

He couldn’t beat Hikaru even though he cheated? Yes but he didn’t cheat enough (or maybe not at all). In the last game, he used more engine moves and got the job done. With 100% engine moves, no human stands a chance.

Nope, in fast time controlls humans can wreck cheaters, and engines. Andrew tang was able to defeat stockfish in hyperbullet(admittedly he cheesed it a little)

The answer of how to beat a cheater is be Hikaru.
The cheater was doing reasonably well hiding the cheats, didn't cheat on every single move to not be too sus. If he had Hikaru would have been blown off the board in 30 - 40 moves.

Given a chance to play against a super GM online why would someone use a computer, I don't think the guy was cheating. If ever he used an engine I can't imagine how he did it that fast.
Some people want bragging rights even if its not real: "I beat a super GM in chess". There is an equivalent in the real world. Some people rent out a lambo and a mansion for 1 day, and take pictures and pretend like they own both.
There is software that exists to automatically move the mouse and click once it detects specific motion. Have you heard of aimbotting in shooter games before? I'm pretty sure if a 12 year can find a cheat that allows them automatically aim and shoot an opponent in less than 0.2 seconds in call of duty/csgo/valorant, a cheat that can automatically move your mouse at fast speed in online chess is much easier in comparison.

ELO is overrated unless you play in tournaments.
I've always wondered why people cheat online. It's stupid. They're not winning money or trophies or anything. They don't even win bragging rights, because if they brag they get caught and are banned. So, why cheat if they don't get anything out of it?

Cheating is pretty much going mainstream, every online game is filled with cheaters. The bigger the risk, the more cheaters are in the game. And that applies only to heavily guarded games with anti cheat technologies. The old ones, classic games for example travian, that have no protection, have whole botnets "playing" against each other.
Even LAN depends on host's competence. Whole setup has to have no access to the Internet, absolutely zero privilleges for users except open/close games and zero usb device connections. I highly doubt that any host applies these steps so even on LAN players can cheat to their heart's content.
