@@rickwells9929 Exactly, it’s not apples to apples. Those cars are built for speed and nothing else, mine is a 5-passenger sedan with a 20-speaker stereo and room for a full Costco load. So pretty sad when they are beat at their own game…
*Tesla Feature Request* Tesla need to add "bumping" into launch/track mode. Based on how they do launch mode, I don't think this would be too hard to do with the scroll wheel on the steering wheel. One click forward and it releases the brake slightly to "bump" the car forward by an inch or two. That will let you get into launch mode all the way without double-bulbing your opponent.
👍 Fully Agree!
People buy exotics for their unique style. If you have a model s plaid, you just get it done. I love them both, and also cannot afford either. Fun to watch though! Keep it all up everyone! It's all entertaining!
Love seeing the old muscle cars. Those '68 and '69 Camaros were SWEET. Just wouldn't be drag night without those old Blue Oval and Bow Tie muscle cars
Lambo's getting beat by daily grocery getters at 1/6 the price....Lamborghini so embarrassed rn
I'm sure he went home to his shack and buried his head in shame. Some of these comments lol
Plaid is actually about 1/3 the price. When you have that much money do you really care? Chances are you can't (and I can't) afford either one of them.
More like Lamebo!
I wouldn't consider the Plaid S a grocery getter. I'm sure it makes a much better daily driver than a Lambo though.
Not if this STO gets boosted with some twin turbos and more carbon fiber to take some weight off. One day the STO will be back for a rematch. Besides the STO is meant to race on a track, who knows the STO would stomp the Plaid on a track.
Always fun Andrew! Watching it back in video I was definitely sleeping at the light on that pass 🤣
Looking forward to getting back out there in a couple months when BMP finishes the reno!
Great fun Matt! Consider Showtime on a Wednesday night in the meantime. It’s a great place to practice the tree, with “all you can eat” unlimited runs!
Yellow Vega Wagon! I'm in love!
Great races
Andrew Your Reaction Time is Brilliant
Thanks for all the great vids Andrew. Your channel was a big reason I decided to get the MS Plaid with the 19s. A few questions. I'm wondering what SOC do you charge your car up to? I notice youv always start over the recommended 90%. Have you noticed a decrease in range? Also, how much faster do you think the Plaid would go if it had wheels that were 10lbs lighter than the 19s (total of 40lbs less unsprung weight)? Thanks!
On race nights only, immediately before going to the track, we usually charge to 95-96%. Otherwise the car sits at 50-80% in the garage. It’s not a daily driver. Only goes to the track. 8K miles. No way to know what the total range is, when it only goes to the track and back. But our 2019 Model S Performance did 1001 dragstrip runs and now has 36k miles. No discernible drop in range, as we take it on 3 hour drives regularly. And the 1000th pass was FASTER than all previous 999. Video posted here on the Channel…
Regarding those lighter wheels, may help by 0.05 if the exact same tires are used. Too often I see guys with their aftermarket wheels running super low profile tires with no sidewall. They don’t understand why their cars are slower. If dragstrip performance is the goal, our tire video from last year goes into detail. Smaller diameter wheels, more sidewall, lightest and narrowest soft compound tire that will hook up on the intended surface, etc…
How wonderful is technology!!!
Sto had no chance, great races!
Would have a chance with twin turbos and maybe more carbon fiber. Gotta have more hp. Maybe 2,000 hp perhaps?
Man the Plaid is like that alien car from the movie The Wraith from the 80s. No human built ICE car can touch it. It's literally of this world.
Now that was severe!
I'm gonna start calling you Dustin, 'cause you be dustin' that ass every race 😅🙌🏼
Can't wait for my Plaid. 2 more weeks. This doesn't seem fair anymore lol.
Hey Drew...what's are your thoughts about this: "News just broke early this morning that Tesla's high-performance flagship Model S Plaid sedan set a new 1/4-mile record. According to reports, the electric car covered the distance in just 8.834 seconds, with a top speed of 161.37 mph."...supposedly the driver removed between 500 and 650 lbs...Do you think there are options you can exercise with your car to reach sub 9?
The driver (Miguel Roy) and I have exchanged some messages on FB. Here's my take on his great results:
1) No side mirrors, which makes it harder to drive on the street (not legal many places?)
2) Not NHRA-legal for MANY reasons. 2014-and-later model years must:
a) Run above 9.0ET
b) Run under 150MPH
c) Must not modify any safety equipment (airbags gone!)
d) Otherwise must have a roll cage (none visible here)
Yet a great result, and IHRA and Outlaw tracks might be okay with it?
His is quite a radical gutting. No dashboard or center console, no driver-side display screen! No airbags. Every last thing is out except for the center screen and the driver seat is a lightweight racing seat with racing belts. Very spartan, and he shared that it's only comfortable for 100 miles or so.
I'm liking where my Plaid is currently at. It's a comfortable two-seater (like a Corvette but faster), and the front-seat passenger wouldn't even know any weight was removed until they look into the back. Full stereo with subwoofer. It's a good compromise and ensures that it will beat stock Plaids. It also runs high 5's in the 1/8 mile rather consistently now (and did it 8 out of ten runs at Showtime this past Wednesday).
Someone else also beat the previous 8.99 record with a 8.943 recently
Hey thanks guys for taking time to share your comments and thoughts...I have another question: At what point, starting with a "stock" plaid is the line crossed as things are removed and mods are made?...
@@yingyang1888 taking the back seats out like andrew did is pretty good
GTO owner with the holed block spends the next month building a new engine, Tesla owner goes home and washes car......
Hahahaha
After going through McDonald's drive through on way home. lol
Hi Andrew, have you taken the passenger seat out yet?
Nope, not yet. Hesitating on that, with my wife (or son) coming to the track occasionally. Also, the Locktite on it makes it a bit tougher, even with the right tool...
dude he even gave him the move.
Have you removed the Frunk for further weight savings?
Yep-
Love when you ask the ICE guys, “how’s it running tonight”? Always a boat load of excuses and problems😂😂😂😂
Plaid made the hurricane look like a little dust twister🥱.
Is the whole strip prepped or just the first bit?
It varies by track, but usually more glue at the start, since it slows cars down at the top end
Saludes. Gracias
06:40 KE 70 Corolla!!!!
Damn an electric car beats the quickest Lambo ever. Hope the Lambo is much cheaper at least?!
That STO is more than triple the cost! 💰💰💰
@@TeslaPlaidChannel holy shit🤯
Gotta put some Twin turbos on that STO and or put more carbon fiber to take some weight off the lambo. Modifying this STO bill would possibly be even quicker than it was stock. Besides, this STO would beat this on a track since it’s mainly for track and not drag racing.
Have you seen that stripped down plaid model s in Canada that just posted up some 8.8 runs at over 161mph?
Damn impressive to pickup over 10mph on a stock powertrain. Makes me wonder what the plaid really has in it at full tilt. 😁
exactly if it weighed 3500lb it would probably do 8.4
@@hulkster4374 just an 8.4? Rumor was this one was right around 5k total doing 8.8s @161+mph.
In drag racing every 100# is usually good for 1 tenth off the et. Stock plaids around 4700#+, so a 9.2 for stock vs an 8.8 with about 600# of weight redux means a 3500# plaid would/should easily do mid-high 7s @170+mph.
Even the 2mill+ rimac with 2k hp, weighing around 4300# with 4 motors only did an 8.5@167mph so far. 🤔
i was there live at Naperville those car are insane it was fully gutted no dash only the screen
@@shaynehuneault1915 the plaid had the dash removed?
@@hulkster4374 theoretically 3500lbs would be 1300lbs lighter which equates to about 1.3s off the 1/4 or high 7's on paper.
The majority of the vehicles that run a test and tune will be a low 6 1/8 mile and a low 9 1/4 mile. In my experience. Which is your quick street cars, that actually drive on the street. But that is just around my area.
LOL these Lambos so overrated
"I got a lambo baby hop in" - "my dad says his stock family sedan is faster, is that true? 🤣🤣
@@a4Audi2153 LMAO yes yes it is true
Wonder why your Plaid was around 3.5mph faster in the 1/8th, but he trapped faster at the end?
Thanks for noticing. It’s because the 1/4mile trap in the left lane always reads about 2-3 MPH slow at this track. It needed calibration, but they are completely rebuilding the track this month so it should be better when they reopen in August.
And if anyone doubts it, just look at my last two runs of the night:
Left lane: 9.28@148.59, 1.53, 6.03@119.9MPH
Right lane: 9.28@151.26, 1.53, 6.04@119.1MPH
Exact same 1/4mi ET. Exact same 60-ft. Almost 3 MPH faster just by changing lanes, even though the battery was LOWER for the right-lane pass. And that second pass was already almost 1MPH Slower at the 1/8th, so how could it pick up “~4MPH” at the top with lower battery charge? It didn’t. This track’s 1/4mi traps have recently been different like this.
@@TeslaPlaidChannel Good observation. Yes, I have made over 500 drag strip runs, and notice little details like this!
@4:06 Two PLAIDS ___Do Knot_ _Make it write!_
Imagine a Rimac Nevera plate.. EZ 8S
A little less easy, there’s a completely stripped down Plaid that runs 8.7-8.8s
A little less easy, there’s a completely stripped down Plaid that runs 8.7-8.8s
@@TeslaPlaidChannel the Nevera is 8.5 last I heard
STO needs more power, like twin turbos and a modified exhaust. Plus maybe more carbon fiber to reduce the weight. Besides, the STO is more for track. Surely the lambo would be quicker.
So the track is ok with you going that fast without a cage 🤔
👍 Yep, the new NHRA rules (Feb 2022) allow 2014 and later model years with all original safety equipment in place (airbags, brakes, seatbelts, etc) to run as fast as 9.0 and up to 150MPH trap speed before a cage is required.
they are watching you race on their phones future tesla costumers, but old dogs new tricks they will not bite it
If I were in a Plaid against you my sole purpose would be cutting that light to a fault.
Still wouldn't be enough if you are riding on 21"s. Even a perfect 0.000 light by Matt's Plaid would still have lost by 0.019 seconds...
(Any closer than that, and it’s a red light loss)
so the gutted plaid is slower than a normal one??
9.28 (blue one, rear seats out) is faster than 9.38 (black one, stock).
Or if you are confused about MPH, the blue one ran 151 in that same right lane that consistently reads 2-3MPH higher than the left lane. But actual drag racers know ET is what matters 👍
@@TeslaPlaidChannel many stock Plaids have run 9.2x
@@thescuba4780 👍Including mine, three 9.20s in a row when it was 100% stock. Proof: czcams.com/video/ZeSPcq57LT4/video.html
What about the 5th run, 6th run? What about when there’s a headwind? What about when traction is bad? Do you really think every ET is “perfectly comparable”? 🤔 (New to drag racing?)
Lost 140 pounds and now running 0.14 faster when apples-to-apples.
How many stock plaids have run 9.15? (None, but we’ve run that, and 9.16 and 9.19)
It’s beats a stock Plaid EVERY time side-by-side given same track and conditions 😃
Why did they call it a silly name like Plaid? How about the Dominator or the Cheetah.
It's the next faster speed after Ludicrous: czcams.com/video/mk7VWcuVOf0/video.html
someone hasn't seen space balls
Generally if you have rear drive to spin and gears to change...you loose.
The Lambo STO an Automated Transmission and launch control. Here’s what that driver has to do: Hit the go pedal (and steer it straight).
(Someone *could* try to use the paddles, but it would only be slower than the computer program.)
Sound is SOOO Overrated! LOLOL
Not when it sounds good lol
Clearly, those of us who grew up with the smell of burnt nitromethane on a Sunday night need to either die off or readjust our senses, as watching a Tesla flog a gasser doesn't actually move the old needle much (euphemistically speaking ;))...
We are the first to say it not for watching or smelling or listening to. It’s for an incredible rush of torque that’s unlike any other production car. Low nines and dead reliable. Unimaginable a decade ago.
And a century ago, “motorcars have no soul” was the reigning mantra for those that loved their horses 🐴. They had a stronger point. And their rides had a stronger smell than nitromethane!
@@TeslaPlaidChannel I totally get the notion that actually riding an electric sling-shot can be mind-blowing :) But I don't think they provide the visual cues that historically loaded the stands on Sunday Sunday SUNDAY NITEs!
@@daytrypper 👍Agree!

redeye wins plaid bad
Nope. Even the heavily modified 1000+HP Redeyes just keep losing to the Plaid, over and over and over again. Our video next week has a 1050HP (dyno’d RWHP) NOS Redeye Charger and an even faster Redeye Challenger. Wanna bet who won those races?
If I’m ever in Florida can I go on a drag race with you? 😀 ⚡️🚗
Just bring your car and you helmet! (But note that Dragstrips don’t allow ride-alongs at these speeds.) We are at Showtime Dragstrip in Clearwater on Wednesdays, Bradenton Motorsports Park most Thursdays, and various places on Saturdays. 👍
@@TeslaPlaidChannel Darn I wanted to do a ridealong haha Did you see the Plaid Model X with 7 people in it beat the fastest Porsche in production? Lol that was a ridealong. My Model 3 RWD wouldn't stand a chance haha maybe I'll just spectate if I ever make it down
@@FrunkToTrunk Yep 👍, Private track rentals allow things that normally can’t be done. Renting the track out like that is not cheap 💰
