    Such a handsome looking headphone! Also the construction is simple yet robust, which is worlds apart from Elega's dynamic headphones which are so stupidly overbuilt and complex I swore I would NEVER open one up again. Construction and design wise they seem to be more in line to how Victor/JVC would do things than Elega. Soundwise though they're definitely in-line with Elega's in house sound signature it seems.

    Nice to see vintage planar videos on youtube! definitely one of the most beautiful vintage headphones ever (basically an Akai ASE-50 colour variant). I put my vote in for Victor as the driver maker. Congratulations on your rare fingerprint xD, the driver serpentine is also beautiful, I think its slightly closer in concept of the Fostex T30 serpentine, there was also a very rare Fostx T50 with the angular type serpentine.
    Also amusing to see Elega use 'FD' which looks uncannily similar to the RP logo on Fostex.

    When it EQ from software or in room app, or even touch any volume knob down I feel sound degradation in quality. Now using pc2002 yamaha with preamp passive and headphone selector.

      @airun5362 tone correction always had trade-offs unfortunately

    Can i ask you ! In all the vintage planar that you tried, what are your best top 3 headphone in fun sound quality, stock without mod , but with simple tone control adjusting. What do you recommand me ? TDS-16 i suppose ? And what else ? I don’t mind over ear headphone. Thank you for your answers. Really like your video

      Did you ever tried Audio Technica ATH-2 ? If yes how do you compare with TDS-16 ?

      @@yanturcotte7377 Keeping in mind that I havn't heard a Sansui SS-100 or a Yamaha YH-1000 (and a few other unicorns) my top pick easily goes to the Yamah HP-1.
      It just sounds REALLY good out of the box.
      Maybe for 2nd and 3rd a Fostex T30 and Fostex T20RP (original version with round driver) or one of it's OEMs.
      T30's are very capable too, but could use tone correction. They're smoother sounding than HP1.
      T20RPs are very closed-in, dry and VERY clean sounding, but need different over-ear ear pads to sound their best... so I guess that's a mod (although most of them today need new pads anyway).
      I have heard the ATH-2, and MANY other variants with the same driver - they are usually the worst vintage planars around.

      Thank you for your answer. What is the difference beetween de HP-1 and YH-1 ? So you think Fostex T30 is better then T50 ?

      @@yanturcotte7377
      YH = Export (generally speaking)
      HP = Japanese/domestic.
      The only difference is the printed letters :)
      I think T50 (RP18) driver is better than the T30 driver, but SERIOUS mods are required to get them sounding their best (as seen in my NAD RP18 video).
      The T50/RP18 housing adds a 'boxy' timbre.
      So I think a stock T30 + tone correction sounds better than a stock T50/RP18 + tone correction.

      Thank you for the explanation. I just bought on ebay ( not received yet ) a New old stock TDS-16 following your review on it. You mention it as a YH-1 like driver. What do you think the difference between them and Hp-1/Yh-1 ? Will it be redundant to have both ?
