How many drivers bro I'm looking 5 drivers IEM
5 DD, 5 BA or mixed, 5 in total?
some 1 twst it with Dt 1990 pro ? how it sound
I got mine with BT module for $200 (hifiman ebay). Now I like it more and more after I found USB-C adapter for it, and everything changed. Sensitivity is good enough to plug directly to smartphone, but sound is a bit muddy. BT module only supports 16bit (32bit on MTK platform)/48kHz with USB-C in, but BT is much louder and better audio quality. I really like Deva Pro versatility. You can plug on left side with TRS to TRS 3.5mm cable, or plug V-moda Boom Pro to add Boom Mic. About USB-C adapter, you just need CX31993 based USB-C adapter (65mW at 20 ohms) and sound is much better than from smartphone alone
wich one do you prefer for Comp Gaming and listening to music and watching movies the Blessing 3 VS Orchestra Lite VS Arate VS Simgot EM6L VS Supermix 4 ??
If I ever listen to the other 4 I'll definitely let you know for sure ;)
One of my favourites!
Vielen Dank
Your voice / mic / audio is full of plosives. Its rattling everything in my livingroom coming through my duel subwoofer's
Exactly how I planned it 🤯 .... Ok, but seriously ... Is it just this video, or also my more recent videos? I did modify some recording techniques recently that I hoped would make the audio more clean, but I only test the sound on headphones at home.
Oh that channel imbalance isn’t too bad, still sucks though. Also it could just be your mini dsp, flatheads are a b to measure.
Unfortunately it's the earbuds. I can hear a small imbalance, and both buds were measured on the same side of the miniDSP, with a DIY foam mount (at 5:34) that I made to make earbud measurements easier and far more reliable than the silicone ones supplied with the EARS. With that piece of foam I get insane consistency, and more accurate graphs compared to the EARS.
Out of context: can you make a video on how to use a headphone with a speaker amp? 😁 I'm willing to take the risk .. after I lost my beloved Lake People amp.😭 My headphone is the dt 880 600 ohm Edition
I'm surprisingly not very interested in that... I know... sacrilege.. Once upon a time, I tried powering my HE-500 with an Emotiva a100, and heard no obvious difference between that and under-powering it with an O2 amp ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Of course, now I do better understand the reasoning behind providing endless headroom, it's just not something I've needed with the audio-gd NFB11.28 TXCO lying around with its 3.5W @ 32 ohms... Also, I'm not exactly comfortable with the potential risks involved. I can only see it being useful for a very select number of headphones, and even then I'm not willing to take those risks for a demonstration. That said, I don't think I even have all the physical cable adapters and the electronics knowledge required to make a decent video :P
@@GREQReviews Thanks for the explanation. Just keep going with your awesome videos and I'm happy :)
Thanks. Oh wait an LCP dynamic. Nice.
Yeah, I think that's actually quite a big deal. I was very impressed with the LCP driver in the MDR-1R
Thank you for this review. My next headphone for sure.
привет, я могу использовать этот усилитель с колонками 8 Ом и активным сабвуфером на 100 Вт через "high level input" ?
Increadibly beautiful~ Shame these pair have a bit of a channel imbalance~ I do seriously wonder how the older TOTLs compare as well as modern offerings from FiiO
Can I use dt990 pro on this amp ??
Yes, the PH05 will definitely be able to run it at and beyond normal listening volumes.
Purchased for gaming but I need an adapter to power it because my motherboard don’t support coax cables niceeeeee
I assume you want to bypass the DAC portion of the K5 Pro? Depending on what you want your audio source to be, you could use an HDMI to COAX adapter... but that's already getting weird. Any particular reason you don't want to power it with USB and use the DAC?
I only like earbuds with a hanger like the ATH-EC707/Creative Aurvana Air or my personal favorite, the earset 3 / A8 from B&O which I have used extensively in the office. Every normal earbud just won't stay in my ears :(
I'd like to try some of those out one day, especially the A8.
Yeah I can use iems and tws, but flatheads are a nightmare for me lol.
I keep on watching this again and again.
Thanks for helping the algorithm :P
Wow that plug threw me. Have only seen that on one other thing from days gone by and it took me 8 years to realize it ha.
Great stuff thanks again.
Hello great review thanks !! Could you recommend a good cheap amp with proper fixed pre out ? Unlike this « faulty » device?
I'm afriad not. Let me know if you ever find a good one 😅
Thank you for switching in the video to the shot of the bt20 pro every time you mentioned it. That was very funny, but also very clear to show it every time you mention it! 01 if you set it to the usb input 02 turn off external power 03 turn on external power Does A. The unit turn on? B. The unit remember the last input source and select that usb input?
That is correct - the unit WILL turn on, and it WILL remember the last input selection :) (I'm glad someone enjoys my awful sense of humour)
Can i ask you ! In all the vintage planar that you tried, what are your best top 3 headphone in fun sound quality, stock without mod , but with simple tone control adjusting. What do you recommand me ? TDS-16 i suppose ? And what else ? I don’t mind over ear headphone. Thank you for your answers. Really like your video
Did you ever tried Audio Technica ATH-2 ? If yes how do you compare with TDS-16 ?
@@yanturcotte7377 Keeping in mind that I havn't heard a Sansui SS-100 or a Yamaha YH-1000 (and a few other unicorns) my top pick easily goes to the Yamah HP-1. It just sounds REALLY good out of the box. Maybe for 2nd and 3rd a Fostex T30 and Fostex T20RP (original version with round driver) or one of it's OEMs. T30's are very capable too, but could use tone correction. They're smoother sounding than HP1. T20RPs are very closed-in, dry and VERY clean sounding, but need different over-ear ear pads to sound their best... so I guess that's a mod (although most of them today need new pads anyway). I have heard the ATH-2, and MANY other variants with the same driver - they are usually the worst vintage planars around.
Thank you for your answer. What is the difference beetween de HP-1 and YH-1 ? So you think Fostex T30 is better then T50 ?
@@yanturcotte7377 YH = Export (generally speaking) HP = Japanese/domestic. The only difference is the printed letters :) I think T50 (RP18) driver is better than the T30 driver, but SERIOUS mods are required to get them sounding their best (as seen in my NAD RP18 video). The T50/RP18 housing adds a 'boxy' timbre. So I think a stock T30 + tone correction sounds better than a stock T50/RP18 + tone correction.
Thank you for the explanation. I just bought on ebay ( not received yet ) a New old stock TDS-16 following your review on it. You mention it as a YH-1 like driver. What do you think the difference between them and Hp-1/Yh-1 ? Will it be redundant to have both ?
Nice to see vintage planar videos on youtube! definitely one of the most beautiful vintage headphones ever (basically an Akai ASE-50 colour variant). I put my vote in for Victor as the driver maker. Congratulations on your rare fingerprint xD, the driver serpentine is also beautiful, I think its slightly closer in concept of the Fostex T30 serpentine, there was also a very rare Fostx T50 with the angular type serpentine. Also amusing to see Elega use 'FD' which looks uncannily similar to the RP logo on Fostex.
🐞🐞
how your old dt770 compares to the new one? (not talking about the limited edition)
Sorry, there are so many versions of the DT770, could you be more specific? (My version is Pro 80 ohm which is still 'modern')
@@GREQReviews The most distinctive change I know from the old models to the new one is the logo The old (in three versions 32, 80, 250) has this logo ))) The new one has a "y" instead of the ")))"
@@husamalden2897 No idea. I've never heard the new one with the 'Y' logo. But realistically the new version should only be a cosmetic update. The sound should be very similar, or the same, since they have an invested interest in maintaining a consistent level of quality in their studio line. If there were any big changes I think we would have noticed an uproar by now.
the PR2 is the refined among the trio , the PR1 PRO is the excited more V shape tuned but still relatively balance tuned one , where the PR3 IMHO is simply over engineered and trying too much to tune for able to be delivering on all aspect and end up a bit too disconnected
I recently noticed that switching to foam tips for the HBB PR2 makes a HUGE difference to reducing the piercing treble. I can't recommend using foam tips enough. This is something I will definitely watch out for in future IEM reviews, since tip-rolling is of course so much more common than ear pad rolling.
Very helpful review. I just got one pair. Can you share your EQ to make them go booommm
3:50
They seem to be quite similar to my TH900, and the comment of them being quite a small sound stage makes me question if Fostex made them open back just for the sake of being open back
Something tells me you might not be too far off, because I could detect no obvious reason why anyone would take the open-back over the closed-back versions aside from price, or requiring less isolation.
Such a handsome looking headphone! Also the construction is simple yet robust, which is worlds apart from Elega's dynamic headphones which are so stupidly overbuilt and complex I swore I would NEVER open one up again. Construction and design wise they seem to be more in line to how Victor/JVC would do things than Elega. Soundwise though they're definitely in-line with Elega's in house sound signature it seems.
Ooh, one of my very favourite designs. I didn't know the plug was removable either, that's a surprise. perhaps it was to allow optionally plugging it into the larger adapter box like the HR-1000. I do remember liking the sound a lot other than it lacking a lot of bass.
Hello , Those pads are not the OG one, can you tell me what are they ? They look more comfy than the OG, may i get those for mine. Thank you
I'm afraid I don't know exactly which ear pads they are, as they arrived with the headphone when I got it. If you search for aftermarket ear pads (on aliexpress for example) I'm sure you'll find some very similar pads.
Thank you ! I never mod pads, do you know what i have to look for, when buying pads ? Only diameter ? And the diameter of what parts ? Thank you
They currently are manufactured by Victor in Japan with "His Master's Voice" logo as 100V. A must just for the logo and 'made in Japan' for any collector....😊
Actually, the MX10-B, MX-100-Z and MX-100V are all tuned differently! It looks like the 100V is the most 'mid-centric' of the three, but that's only based on some obscure reviews and a single FR graph that I could find.
thanks for the video i just have some questions about the perun you liked: how would you compare it to stax headphones and kaldas rr1 you reviewed? Thank you
Hi there, Perun is very different to the RR1. RR1 overall has a very smooth presentation, very much most STAX headphones. It has smaller staging than all lambdas and the high-end circular driver models, but it's never piercing in the treble. It just sounds like a 'normal' headphone (think Senn HD600) but with electrostatic technicalities and a touch darker tuning. Perun is more like a really well tuned and scaled-up SR-Lambda NB, with no significant peaks or dips, but BIGGER staging - these sound HUGE. From the technical and subjective performance, I think they were among the top 3 headphones I heard all day, including the SR-9000X and ES Lab ES1 (which was the one beside the Perun). The extra physical height of these Peruns gives them one of the tallest soundstages I've ever heard. It gives an incredible sense of scale to the sound. Maybe not the biggest soundstage ever, but still really quite big. The tone was VERY impressive for an e-stat - riding the line between analytical and euphoric. The ES Lab ES1 was warmer.
Is the preout only for subwoofer or it can be connected to 2.1 home theater..?
The Pre-Out is a full-range output and can be used with any 2.1 speaker system or anything with an amplifier.
I've had the pleasure of owning Toshiba HR-810. After putting Brainwavz HM5 earpads on them I could achieve some acceptable bass performance and wider stage but the super speedy smooth precise musical capability of this electret remained the star of the show. Sadly they broke down eventually. Miss them very much.
I've bought these and also the earpads you suggested. SW-01 offer a wonderfully unique sound while not being too out-there for it to not be simply enjoyable. Lots of rich non-fatiguing musicality here. If I had to compare these to some other headphones I would have to say Audioquest Nighthawk (the orginal non-carbon one). The new earpads are very slightly smaller and make the sound overall tighter and a bit more bassy but otherwise don't damage the tuning.
Happy to hear you're enjoying them. JVC's best stuff is far too obscure.
@@GREQReviews Oh I know. Had HA-S500, S680 and SZ2000 in the past. Too bad they're all gone, the carbon nanotube tech was pretty special.
@@timecage Your comment belies the biggest problem with JVC - build quality.
@@GREQReviews Well the SZ2000 weren't built very well considering the weight of the drivers and their chambers. But what I mean is that they're no longer being sold. Never had any quality issues other than with the 2000s.
I did not know at all that the plug was removable! I do wonder how they sound back in the day, still such a good looking headphone
Appreciate the in depth coverage here. Thanks.
Do you think there is a difference in performance when plugged in instead of a USB input?
Sorry, I don't understand the question. The K5 Pro is a USB DAC/amp.
do you believe he can play a kz pr2 or a hifiman he 400se well? I have this doubt
As I mentioned in the review, I wasn't convinced by it's ability to drive my Hifiman HE-500. Generally, I don't think it's quite strong enough for any large planar headphone. However, my KZ HBB PR2 is driven VERY well by the K5 Pro. I get to a good strong listening level at around 10 o'clock with brickwalled music, and have plenty of headroom left for properly recorded music around 12 o'clock. The bass boost with PR2 is quite good too ;)
5:57 I agree, unit like this should have a fixed LINE OUT. To compensate for the MC351's low-level PRE-OUT, why can't you simply raise the volume of your powered subwoofer?
I do. With the sub at FULL volume, it is still nowhere near as loud as it should be to be balanced with the sound from my speakers. It's a matching set of Yamaha NS-615B + Yamaha NS-W1.
I HAVE had THE jT1'S for 3 months and I have been very satisfied with them but my Cable developed a short does anyone know of a compatible cable that works with them?
I truly believe the designers behind Fosi’s components, while they can crank out good-for-the-money electronics, have no idea how the equipment is used in the real world. Sort of like developing cool software without taking into account the user experience. Maybe some nascent AI is writing up the requirements 😂
Every single product I've reviewed from them had at least one quirk or oddity. SK01 seems like the most 'normal' ... until you realize it has a BATTERY inside making it somehow portable!??
Fosi is emerging as the king of "Almost"... czcams.com/video/ox-NkyEFTmo/video.htmlsi=P8DX88eU3hjq6ort Like most of these mini-amp makers I seriously doubt they're sitting down and planning systems or analysing use-cases. It's more like "Hey I've got an idea" but never thinking it through to how useful it will be. This MC351 will likely find a home with people wanting better than average TV sound, repurposing a third speaker as a sub-woofer. But that's about the only niche it will fill.
Looks like a fosi bt30d pro, which is this thing with less un useful features like a mediocre dac and vu meter, but with sub woofer volume and frequency control. For 100$ that thing is a way better deal compare to this.
This is definitely the first time I've had a Fosi product that I don't really understand.
I am using a passive subwoofer. I made my subwoofer myself and I am using 3 Fosi audio V3 for my 5.1 system (6 channels of amplification).
Did you add a high pass filter to your sub?
@@GREQReviews Do you mean lowpass? A sub with a highpassed signal puts out no subbass... 😂
@@ropeburn6684 Lol yes... typo/brainfart 🥴
why not a high pass switch, that feature is missing too
Yeah seriously. If you have a subwoofer, what's the point with running main speakers full range? They will just be stressed with subbass which they can't reproduce anyway.
Good point. The MC351 assumes the sub has it's own high pass filter.
Just buy bass blockers they are cheap and put them directly on the positive terminals on the amp then run your wire from it to your positive side of your speaker terminals. I have a 150hz bass block on mine now the bookshelves are playing nothing below 150hz however I left the sub unfiltered and is the only thing left playing low.
@@GREQReviews Usually they do, yes. But active ones, on line level. How are you gonna loop the filtered signal back to the main amp? You'd need tape loop functionality or something, or else you'll need to use a separate preamplifier for source switching, negating the whole point of an integrated amp. All this nonsense could be avoided by having a simple highpass for the main channels. And ideally a matching lowpass for the sub out.
Excellent review! 1st one out for this unit! Thank you!!!!! Totally agree with all your points! My thoughts are that they could have eliminated, BT, the powered sub output (who uses that), of course the bigger volume knob, a third tone control knob for "mid", and a full sized/varible subwoofer output, full sized PRE-AMP OUTPUT. This unit COULD have been much better with little changes.
Thanks! Also good to know I'm not the only one griping at the mixed bag of features.

@@GREQReviews wow quick and sharp response, impressive !

I bought it from the importer and he modded the pads nobody uses fostex with stock pads. try it. it is incredible after pad swap
Do you have any specific pads you would recommend?
@@GREQReviews Yaxi Alcantara earpads for th900 (choose either leather or Alcantara, different sound) works for 909 and 808 as well Also, you can use the Dekoni elite hybrid or leather. (Don’t have them) also works on the open back version. Right now I’m using some unknown leather earpads the importer bought and modified. Sounds good to me. Even he said he hates the stock earpads and the long cable. Same goes for almost all of fostex headphones
