Swanston Street Stories, my very short doco (cause of uni guidelines) on homelessness in Melbourne.
i was super nervous on the day of filming, and I was very worried for how they would react to me, however every person I talked to on camera and the ones that didn’t want to be on camera were soooo nice and honestly just genuine people. hearing their stories and what they had to say was very overwhelming and touching.
i just want to say thanks to aaron, adam, paul and shane for allowing me to interview them and ask them very personal and confronting questions, they didn’t have to let me ask them questions and record it but they did.
most of the time homeless people just want to talk and have a conversation, they don’t ask for much, you could sit down and chat to them about the weather or about a sport and they’d happily have a conversation with you.
i encourage everyone to at least at some point in their life stop and have a chat with someone on their street, make them and their stories feel valued and just show some compassion.
if my video at least changed one person’s negative opinion on homeless, it’s an accomplishment.

Not every homeless person is on drugs or violent. They are human and no one knows when perhaps we might end up in a situation where we end up homeless. Be kind and say hi. ❤ to you all.
