    =============================
    What is the difference between the Philips Airfryer Avance XXL and the Philips Airfryer Avance XL? In this video I will tell you all the differences between these popular airfryers.
    An airfryer is a deep fryer that uses hot air instead of oil to fry your food. But besides frying food you can also grill, bake and cook food - unlike a tradition frying pan.
    Hi I am Pim from AirfryerDaily.com. I use and test all kinds of airfryers since 2015. On my Dutch CZcams channel I received a lot of English requests about a video I made about the difference between the Philips Airfryer XXL and the XL, so I decided to make an English video.
    In this video I’ll show you all the differences and similarities between these models. And I also show you how to make french fries with these two airfryers. So let’s go!
    First let’s start by explaining why a Philips Airfryer is so unique. The airfryer is originally a Dutch invention by Philips, also known for Philips Hue lights. This means that Philips was the pioneer in the field of airfryers. The unique selling point of the Philips Airfryer is that it has a patented pan. The bottom of each Philips Airfryer contains a starfish indent which helps the hot air to circulate optimally inside the airfryer which results in better baked food. Only Philips Airfryers contain this pan, no other brands can mimic this because it is patented.
    The pan makes the Philips Airfryer stand out from all the others in my opinion. But also the good build quality and the wide variety of airfryer accessories are big advantages of Philips Airfryers.
    So what can you make with an airfryer. Of course you can make all the fried food you normally would make with a deep fryer, such as fries and crispy chicken. But with a hot air fryer you can also grill meat, fish and vegetables, you can roast a whole chicken and you can bake a cake or bake a bread that you normally would prepare in the oven.
    Philips Airfryer XL
    - Rapid Air
    - 1200 gram of fries or 2.64 pounds
    - Capacity: 3 liter or 0.79 US gallons
    - Power: 2100 Watt
    - Temperature: 60 - 200 °C or 100 - 390 °F
    - Weight: 7 kg or 15.43 pounds
    - Release date: 2013
    - Basket size : 22x22x8 cm or 8.66x8.66x3.15 inches
    - Kabel length: 80 cm or 31.5 inches
    Philips Airfryer XXL
    - Twin Turbostar
    - 1400 gram of fries or 3.08 pounds
    - Capacity: 3,5 liter or 0.92 US gallons
    - Power: 2225 Watt
    - Temperature: 40 - 200 °C or 104 - 390 °F
    - Weight: 8 kg or 17.63 pounds
    - Release date: 2017
    - Basket size : 23x23x8.5 cm or 9.05x9.05x3.34 inches
    - Kabel length: 100 cm or 39.37 inches
    To recap, the Philips Airfryer XXL is a bit larger in size, more powerful and is a more recent model. The larger sizes shows itself inside the airfryer. The frying basket, that holds your product, is a bit wider and a bit taller than the one inside the XL. It is only 2 cm or 0.78 inches wider and 0,5 cm or 0.19 inches taller. Especially the extra height is convenient, because the large basket can hold a larger chicken or taller filled bell peppers for instance.

    Great comparison thank you. For those still deciding between the two I don’t really see any reason not to choose the XXL model.
    From experience the advantages are:
    The control panel, tactile push button feedback and the control knob. When you have wet hands, the touch sensitive area on the XL can play havocs.
    The cleaning, when you can take things apart it is way easier to clean than a single unit especially from the area build up of grease and grime after extended use.
    The larger cooking area, believe me you can always use that extra space no matter how small you think you’ll need initially.
    A better designed ventilation area of the XXL and finally just as a precaution I think better not to warm up the unit first if you need to arrange food in the basket because after 3 mins the unit is extremely hot when touch especially if children are using it.
    I love Philips Airfryer but it’s one of those appliances which won’t last for many years due to the non serviceable / cleaning of the heating element area after prolonged use but the benefits and convenience of using the Airfryer are far outweigh these limitations.

      I have the Philips XL from 2012, I bought it in a thriftstore for only 15 euro and I start every morning by baking bake off bread 2 times 3 buns for 5 minutes per time. The bread is so nice crunchy from the outside and it is great to start the day every morning with warm fresh bread. I don't know exactly what my teenage daughters do but they bake a lot of loempia's , chicken nuggets and pizza slices in a week. I use it for dinner at least 4 times a week, frying fish like salmon but also fishsticks, potato, sausages and snacks in the weekends.

    I saw your comment on the Philips' channel, I hope you get your hands on the smart sensing version, I am soo interested about that review.
    I really sceptical about that, and I feel it will be really expensive, but the same time I can imagine, it can eliminate adding 2 more minutes manually.
    Today, the XXL model costs about 100.000 Forints or more in Hungary, and, sadly, because Hungary is a small country, its arrived this spring I think to the stores. I feel the smart version will be double the cost if its arrive at all... :)

    the lift out “basket “ has a removable mesh base that is non-stick (teflon type).Food can and does stick on it, (i dont use spray oil, & sometimes rub in olive oil) but it removes more easily than my earlier non coated models. it is no drama to me to heat the unit with water covering the mesh or just soaking it for a period. The “tray” that no longer connects to the basket (too large and too heavy for safe removal maybe) is also coated & has a durable feeling non stick coating. In australia it cannot have pfoa. The tray carrying the basket of food now is safer to handle as it slides out of the the unit supported on a central runner. This also increases the fiddly bits to wipe down. But i have relented and tried the cheaper analogue version of this model (the only white unit) and the food results are delicious and fast . Just AMAZING! i expect that build up will again occur in the impossible to clean heating/fan area and eventually smoke out the kitchen,but then ill transfer it to outdoors use as with a bbq cooker!

  • @soroako4142
    @soroako4142 Před 3 lety +32

    I have a Love / Hate relationship with my Philips XXL. I'm happy to extol their cooking prowess but will not recommend them as they are a pain in the arse to clean and are in fact more dangerous than knives i.e. I've only cut myself once with a knife in 20 years but have drawn blood at least 3 times while cleaning the Philips fryer basket.
    As another poster wrote the design of the basket and access to the area around the fan are the two areas where Philips absolutely failed. First to the basket. The original mesh base is too thin and food particles attach to it too easily meaning it needs to be soaked and scrubbed. The optional rigid base is better in this respect. Don't believe the advertising crap that suggests cleaning is as simple as wiping out with a paper towel.
    By design any fat or juices that don't drip through to the bottom end up in the 90 degree lip which runs around the bottom of the basket - and the heat process means that grease and gunk sticks to it like the proverbial to a blanket. The same goes for the two ridges which run around the sides of the basket. The only reason why the ridges exist is to stiffen up the basket which is manufactured from thin pressed sheet metal.
    Philips could easily and cheaply rectify these two design failures by making a one piece basket with holes punched through to the base thereby eliminating the need for the sharp edge lip and the two horizontal gunk attracting ridges. Hell for the price that Philips charge for the fryers they could make them out of stainless steel.
    To overcome the difficulty of cleaning the heating element Philips could mount it on a drawer slide for easier access. As it is now the recommended method for cleaning it is to:
    [1] Heat some water at 200 degrees for 30 or 40 minutes so that the resultant steam will loosen off the grime.
    [2] Empty the water, remove the power cord and turn the whole unit upside down.
    [3] Use a damp cloth to wipe down the element.
    The major fail with the design is that the heating element is also surrounded by a thin edge of pressed sheet metal just daring anyone to insert their hands while wearing nothing less than a pair of leather welders gloves. Access and visibility is poor and as a consequence food splatter is impossible to remove.
    All in all I'm surprised that someone hasn't taken up the design failures with a government OH&S agency.
    The Philips XXL cooks as well as they advertise - and so it should for a bench top appliance which retails for over AU$400.
    But Philips have failed their customer base by cheapening out on the cleaning / safety aspects.
    When my current unit fails I will not replace it with another of the same design - no matter how well it cooks. It should not take longer to clean the bloody thing than what it takes to prepare and consume a meal.

      @AirfryDaily  Před 3 lety +3

      The unit is extremely heavy awkward and with the runner assembly in the way - as well as in the analogue case - has the temp dial poking out from the unit all making it an extremely difficult process just to access the element area! So True your comments. It is excellent in cooking but come cleaning time I dread. Phillips charges a lot for the product but I know my non stick products and the utensil parts used are of very cheap quality. For the price paid phillips should have made a better quality product. Washing up is a nightmare.

    A couple of comments: First the cooking time. With a Chip pan it only takes 5 minutes to cook chips. However not needing oil is a great advantage. So I could live with that. Second, you use commercial french fries. Normally I would use frozen fries straight from the freezer. I would like you to have include cooking Frozen Fries and Chips made from fresh potatoes which I usually make thicker than commercial fries.

    The XXL looks huge from the outside but I wish someone could compare the size of the cooking basket with other popular brands. I have been trying to figure out if its bigger than other 5.8 or 6 qt fryers like the Cosori 5.8 or Nuwave 6 qt. Phillips only states it holds 3lb but I can not figure out if its equivalent to 6 quarts or liters like the other ones

      Good question. I sadly dont have these other named air fryers. But keep in mind that the weight it can air fry is more important than the volume. A higher volume doenst mean you can air fry more with it. It is the combination with weight and power (watts) that is important.

    Its weird that your XL airfryer has this pull out arm, the most recent XL models that i saw in the shops (Germany) don't have that anymore, so if you pull it out you have to protect your work surface from burning. Of course the slide out arm is more convenient so they probably removed that too make the people buy the XXL. Not cool :( Good comparison! Thanks!

    Thanks for this review. I received an older model
    HD9230 for Christmas. I was surprised at how small it was inside. I did allot of research today before finding your site. One thing I learned is that the XXL is an "easy clean" basket. One site recommended the Cuisinart TOB-260N1 toaster convection oven. They felt it was more versatile and worked just as well, although not advertised as an hairdryer. Lots of comments I read that airfryers with too much power dried the food out or burned it but the inside wasn't done. Thoughts?

    • @AirfryDaily
      @AirfryDaily  Před 4 lety +2

      Hi thanks for your comment. The Cuisinart TOB-260N1 is indeed an oven and is nothing like an air fryer - it is a different type of product. The Philips HD9230 air fryer is a small sized air fryer and is also fairly old. It isn't really an air fryer that is sold often anymore. The higher power is a great thing, because only Philips Airfryer contain this special pan with the starfish - because of the high power the product gets evenly fried or baked from top and bottom. That is so unique about Philips Airfryers. I think you should try out your airfryer you have right now and experience if it is something for you. Try some fries, chicken, vegetables. And if you like it maybe invest in a bigger version next time. I am sure you will like it. I use my air fryers basically everyday.

      Great question. Most air fryers don't get hot at the bottom, but some do get a little bit warm / hot. So when you use an air fryer at first, try to feel if the bottom gets warm or not. Then decide for yourself if it is safe to place it on your counter top. But rest assure, most of the air fryers can be placed on the kitchen counter just fine.

I can’t fit enough chops or chicken pieces in my 7.1litre air fryer which seems to have a similar sized basket to the Phillips one. It is a real pain to have to cook the meat in two separate lots as I then have to keep the first lot of food warm while waiting for the next lot to cook.
