    Thanks for the informative video . My M140 started rattling after a spirited drive where I hit some flood water . Checked the spring and it was missing ! Originally booked in under warranty but decided to try and sort it myself using your video . Bought 2 clips for £12 from BMW and fitted 1 this morning . And guess what ? No rattle ! Bought the car in September which is 4yrs old with 22000 miles now, bargain at just under £18000 from BMW main dealer . Happy days for a change . Keep posting .

    Nice one, it's amazing that dealers have put sports exhausts on under warranty instead of doing such an easy mod to fix the issue.

      How did you fixed it

    • @diverscuba123
      @diverscuba123 Před 11 měsíci

      Hey buddy, sorry for the late reply, but i Hadn't seen your comment.@@G4lyfe68xxx
      I believe I simply used silicone lubricant, but I bet other would do the trick as well, or possibly even better.
      I don't recall the exact spots where I put it, but I remember a small pin or mechanism that I was able to move manually, so I simply poured a lot of lubricant on it and moved it a lot for the lubricant to be able to penetrate into the exhaust, and that was it.
      I'd say it solved the issue by 90%, as I can still hear a little rattle at times, but I'm sure that you can fix it to a 99% if you put enough time into it.
      I hope this helps, and remember to share your conclusion to help others.

    Thanks for the video! Did the fix last? I’m having the same sound from my exhaust. When I looked, the clip between the valve and the actuator was missing, so I installed a new one, but the rattle remains. I’m guessing there’s enough wear in the valve that the width of the clip is no longer enough to hold the flap tight. Half of me wants to try bending the clip. The other half thinks it’ll just be rattling again by Fall, so I’m tempted to just remove the clip again, and spot weld the flap in the open position.

    • @MDrives
      @MDrives  Před rokem +1

      It never returned in my case until I sold the car.

    • @Total_Reflex
      @Total_Reflex Před rokem +1

      Same here, I've installed a new clip (opened the clip wider first) and the rattle comes back. I think the valve itself wears out, so the rattle will just persist.
      Did you manage to sort yours? I'm contemplating pulling the plug whilst it's open so it stays open without the rattle. As far as I know it's only job is to help warm the cats up so not really needed.
      I have the res-delete, so I think the extra vibrations makes this even worse.

    • @MDrives
      @MDrives  Před rokem +1

      @@Total_Reflex I removed resonator and the problem never came back. Maybe you have to bend it a bit more?

    • @Total_Reflex
      @Total_Reflex Před rokem +1

      @MDrives I used a new clip and gave the clip an extra 6-7mm stretch at the very least. The spring needed some force to reinstall the actuator, so it is definitely under good load.
      However, the flap can still move and rattle, so it would appear to have more play than it should have.
      I'm considering removing the clip entirely and using a large jubilee clip to wrap around the exhaust and valve stem to hold it wide open.
      Such a crap design.
