Since it's made by the dude who did Chernobyl I'll give it a try. But I will remain skeptical until it proves itself to be good. We shall see. Until that happens, if that happens, the story of The Last of Us will be the first game to me...

Pedro Pascal has a talent playing characters with tough exteriors who are trying to transport children across long distances slowly starting to love that child like his own despite seeing them merely as cargo at the beginning of the journey.

Never even heard of the game but this show is outstanding. Very high production values, believable acting, excellent story. Honestly this show is as good as the first few seasons of game of thrones ever was. Game of thrones, The sopranos, Chernobyl, Band of brothers. This show stands with the very best that HBO has ever produced.

Not surprising. The Last of Us Part I and II together comprise possibly the greatest story ever told in the medium. It was practically begging to be adapted for a wider audience via TV or streaming.

I love how they perfectly show how the world within The Last of Us can still be funny, cathartic, and worth living despite how horrifically heartbreaking it can be. I can't wait.

except it looks like it was made by a Disney B team and the acting is going to drop off halfway through when the main talent realises he's working on a dogsh*t show ham fisted together to try and save Sony's collapsing revenue, after the abysmal release and return rate of the last game title. So we already knew it could be funny and cathartic, it's just the last of us 2 and cuckman that dragged it through the mud out of spite, and simultaneously cost Sony an estimated $800m in development, advertisement and damage control. All the while, Michaelsoft bought every major IP except for PC mains, spiderman and GOW. This show will tank, like every live action of a video game or anime, because they hire writers to slap things together and spend most of the budget on scenery and effects.

I liked how they changed certain scenarios whilst also giving references to the original outcomes, such as the truck in the car scene. Overall the actors have portrayed their characters personalities very well. Additional lore has also been added into this show and some elements of the fungi have been adapted. Ultimately an equal series to the games!
Having "take on me" play loud and ominously in the background to this trailer is a cool little change-up to Ellie's soft and gentle version in the second game. I have no doubts this is going to be excellent!
I just don't see how this song fits with the universe. Strange decision I think.

Still looking forward to the show, but that was a strange choice. If it gets people to watch the show who wouldn’t normally have watched it, then great. But this is The Last of Us, not Stranger Things, so I just hope this is isolated to the trailer.

@@awesome3139 it's not if it has thematic significance, which this song does. Looking on it at a meta-level, the audience here is familiar with Ellie's soft version of Take on Me in the game. By making it ambient and changing its tone, it creates a sense of foreboding that hooks the watcher in because we know how this story ends and we know that it's not fun and games. This is enhanced by the lyrics such as "i'll be gone/in a day or two" fits in very well with the world of tlou where to someone unfamiliar, Joel 100% intends to leave Ellie. There's also the fact Infected could murder them at any time - "i'll be gone" also referencing the deaths they meet along the way. Catchy for new viewers, devastating for those familiar. A good comparison would be the Wakanda Forever trailer and the first suicide squad movie. The former made good use of its songs by making them emotionally evocative and thematically relevant while the latter did "Take a pop song, make it sound ‘epic,’" as you say

Definitely the best video game adaptation thus far and they took a lot of inspiration from the first two games

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are dynamite and I absolutely love what they did with Storm Reid even the surprise cameo from Ashley Johnson herself (the original voice actress!) 😄
So far they are on the right track with this, I’m very eager for season 2 of how much they can adapt from that

One of the reasons this show was really good was because the people behind the game were very heavily involved in the production of the show even down to the actors.

Wow, that final episode of season 1 was so good, such a good ending 😭 Joel is so protective of Ellie since she feels like a daughter to him now. I’ve cried so much during this show. It’s a masterpiece and one of my favourite shows. Everyone, especially Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal, are so talented and they all did an amazing job. I’m looking forward to season 2. Everyone involved in this show did an incredible job. That whole hospital scene in the last episode was intense. Joel would do anything to protect Ellie because he already lost his own daughter and he doesn’t wanna lose Ellie who is now like a daughter to him. Such a good ending 😭 10/10 show in my opinion, I loved it so much

Came back after watching the finale. Am a die hard fan of the game. Pre-ordered the first game's special edition the second it was available.
It was a 9.5 out of 10 season for me. I actually just wish it was longer. It was awesome! I am excited to see what they do with the second game, whether or not you like it. I am excited to see what they keep the same and what they change. I think there are more opportunities to take liberties and make it something more extraordinary
If the emotional storytelling will be as good as in the game, you already know there will be tears rolling down your face when watching this show.
I hope you understand how tall that mountain is to climb; the original game was a masterpiece of voice acting. A textbook case when your voice actors are really god damn talented. Considering the blitzkrieg they've been on destroying & ruining every game, novel, and remake so far, I believe it when I see it.
All I'm going to tell people if they ask me about the source material is this: Make sure you're stocked up on tissues.

I like how Ellie and Sam seem younger here than they do in the games. It emphasizes the fact that these are kids. Kids who have to live in this apocalyptic world, kids who experience so much pain and suffering. Freaking kids. I'm very excited for this show.
only issue is that the actor for Ellie constantly looks like she has down syndrome
In the ps3 and ps4 versions both look younger.

I wasn't sure on Bella as Ellie, but with the trailers, she's been growing on me. That part when Ellie jokes about twitching, was a certified Ellie moment.
First trailer i thought they made the wrong choice for the role of Ellie but after the 2nd trailer i think she might play her well.
Definitely still not the best choice by a mile in terms of the resemblance but yes if she can do a good job with the character then it could make up for it.
*If you know her work in Game of Thrones you'll see that she's a terrific actress and pretty much an awesome choice for Ellie.*

there’s a few things i would like to note as a massive fan of the games
-the clickers sound and look amazing
-ellie seems to have the goofy and carefree personality she does in the games
-marlene is played by the same actress who played her in the game!

me too considering The Last of Us is one of my all time favorite games Stricly because of the story. The gameplay was fun and I liked it. but the story and acting is why it was great. So making it into a show is exciting yet terrifying

Unlike Netflix which just takes a popular name and makes its own thing from it, which has not been good at any one point.
I dont have high expectations since it is a videogame addaptation, but i will still remain optimistic.
This has been so engaging. I played this game hours beyond count. The characters are well developed and the storyline is pretty true to the game. I won't mention a specific name. Everyone involved with this project thanks. I'm the same age as Joel so it helps me relate to his character. I eagerly await each new episode..

This show is emotional in many ways but what really struck me was that even during an apocalypse, people can still find love
I’m playing it on PC for the first time and the acting, dialogues, are all in line with the tv series. So far it’s an amazing story especially when they met with the brothers Henry and Sam. Such a tragic! The PC port is terrible but I know this is an amazing game. So far what I’ve seen in the tv shows occurred in the game precisely.

1:33 That was Ashley Johnson the actress who played as Ellie from the games. She's playing as Ellie's mom whose name is Anne in the tv adaptation. What an emotional surprise and kinda poetic, Ashley Johnson who helped bring Ellie to life in the video game, is literally bringing Ellie to life by giving birth to her character.
And in 1:54 You can also clearly see Troy Baker the voice actor for Joel playing as one of David's men.
The Show looks absolutely amazing and they are definitely building up from the iconic first video game and I absolutely pray that the show is just as good and pays homage to the beloved Last of us games

Its details like this that show how much attention and care went into it. Its rare to be hyped for an adaptation nowadays (since so many are downers) but this seems like it'll be the diamond in the rough!
Knowing it's coming from the guys who made the Chernobyl mini-series, I have good faith, Pedro Pascal is phenomenal. The bad thing is how many times this show will make me cry if done properly. TLOU was one of the first games that I really got connected to, one of the best games of all time IMO. Lets not mess it up!
Exactly man! Luckely Chernobyl was one of the most thought out series I have ever seen. The series was brutally accurate while adding a lot of amazing acting in. I just can't imagine what the creator of Chernobyl can do with a fantasy world full of imagination and monsters.
Let's not get too hyped, but I am just saying that I am really stoked to see where this goes.

I played the first game. Loved it! It was a refresher for the zombie horror genre because of the amazing storytelling. For the show, man I haven't seen something this amazing in a while. They got the story correctly formatted for TV in my opinion. Joel and Ellie in the show felt real. And the story is so familiar yet tragic and sad, it was beautiful. Honestly, each episode sets the world and pushes the relationship of Joel and Ellie. The characters throughout the show were just heartbreaking to watch, it was perfect. Captured the essence of the game and pushed the new audience to connect and feel.
Also, praising the directing and cinematography for each episode. I loved the way it was shot. It reminded me of the video game. The cameras made you feel attached to the characters. Showing everything that was happening around them from their perspective. Like the scene in the first episode, Joel, Tommy, and Sarah witnessing the Plane crash and the town being taken over by zombies, just incredible.
Season One was solid. The writing careered the show. Without this story, the show would be different. I saw a comment say that it lives up to the first few seasons of GOT, as well as other great shows, like Sopranos, and Breaking Bad. I Agree, with the fact that these shows also had incredible writing and producing. The Last of Us is easily up there with them. Especially because they had a lot of the original crew who were a part of the Video Game.
What a lot of best shows do is create chaotic situations, and ground them in reality. The Last of Us grounds the characters in our reality, so we can relate to them. While also facing the Apocolypse. Like to, after the 3rd episode, I didn't really care about the typical Action that these genres usually fulfill. I was 100% invested in the Characters.
Joel's personal struggle was my personal favorite. But I also enjoyed Ellie's perspective on the world. But this show definitely cast the right people. They did wonderfully and can't wait to see them in season 2. I do hope they stick to the Video Game. I also can't wait to see Ellie's character arc. So excited.
It was immersive and heartfelt. Definitely going to watch season 2.

I honestly had low expectations for this at first, but this looks REALLY good. Also I like how they're putting their own twist with additional dialouge and scenes while staying faithful to the game.

As far as I'm concerned, that's what an adaptation is supposed to be. Remain "faithful" to the source material's core but also bring some GOOD stuff into the fold from outside so it can be justifiably it's own thing.
To be true to the game, they need one entire episode where Joel is standing at a workbench trying to decide whether to upgrade ammo capacity or power

Seeing Troy Baker as one of David’s men and Ashley Johnson as Ellie’s mom instantly made me 100 times more excited for this! Also, Pedro as Joel looks AMAZING along with Bella as Ellie.

I was pleasantly surprised and PLEASED at how well this was made and how it stayed close to the source material. And I liked how some of the iconic scenes from the game's intro were in the first episode; they were almost a shot-for-shot refilming of the game's action sequences. The casting is on point as well. THIS is how you cater to fans of your source material, and still produce quality content.

@@mamadz They replace all the characters with identity politics signifiers and scrap the good writing altogether. Though, this hbo series doesn’t compare to the source materials anyway. It’s cheap and undercooked for me. So you might enjoy the second season, not having seen the original.
For me, it’s a case of creators wanting to explore hard themes without wanting to work, and it comes out as an exploitative subversion of something great. Since they had to retcon the first game to make it work, I simply rejected it as non-canon and added it to the list of sophomoric and vague Marxist trash coming from mainstream gaming.
There’s all the usual updates to the series so far - I image it’ll be even worse going forward. I wasn’t excited to see the last episode and it still disappointed me. Hollywood just likes to subtly erode anything good about narratives. Get ready for a “subversion of your expectation” dumpster fire. 😷
This is all going to depend on how well HBO does with Joel and Ellie's relationship building, though I must say as someone very skeptical of movies/shows these days this does actually look like they are trying to do the game justice and that has me excited.
HBO tends to be good with this stuff too. Especially with Neil Druckmann and the people who worked on Chernobyl doing this, I have high hopes it should
My issue is going to be how they address the side characters. If they focus too much on the main duo, there are a lot of unfortunate liberties that could be taken with people they meet along the way.

It's so insane that the trailer came out a year ago, I remember sitting down and watching it with my parents. That was my intro to the series, I later played both games and I'm obsessed now lol.

Im, actually glad i didnt play the games before watching this, i got 0 spoilers and even though i could tell they cut down some scenes/parts without even actually knowing them, it was still an epic journey. literally the only thing i knew was joel at some point was going to die, wich didnt happen in season 1.

I'm also guessing it's gonna be a cash-grab show, which sucks because The Last Of Us was what got me into zombie games into the first place. I'd love to see multiple seasons, if the show turns out good. I'm HOPING that I'll be proven wrong, but that doesn't really happen anymore these days.

It feels slightly on the nose to me. In the game the concept of Joel feeling a fatherly instinct towards ellie is never explicitly expressed with words from him or anyone else. I feel like thats how it should be with the dynamic between the characters. I feel like having someone try to tell the character that is sort of insulting the intelligence of the audience.

I’m watching Last of Us for the second time. Never played the game so I had no idea what to expect. Fabulous story, characters, special effects. Episode 3 has to be the best TV I’ve ever seen.
I hope people don't write this off as "just another apocalypse show" because the Last of Us really is one of the best stories told in a game, that I've encountered. If they stick as closely as possible to the source material, this is going to be special.
