It was a movie that actually had stakes
I have seen hundreds of horror films over the years and none came close to the terror I felt watching Chernobyl. I have worked as a Chemical engineer for a big company in the UK and a disaster like Chernobyl is not completely avoidable. We completely safety tests everyday. Everyday. However the fact that problems can and do happen means that the idea of a chemical explosion is possible. Night shift workers get tired, electrical equipment fails, people make mistakes. I'm not saying an explosion at the place I work would be anywhere near the scale of Chernobyl but it would cost lives. The illusion of safety is frail and thin - this is what my professor told me on my last day as a student with him and it has stuck with me my whole life. He also told me to not f**k around with things if I'm not 100% sure but pressure from the bosses can sometimes over rule what you have to do. Please stay safe.
To quote a line from the movie 'The Rock', "The second you don't respect this stuff, it kills you."

The crackling of the dosimeter is scarier than any horror movie effect
Yes
I thought it was a giager muller counter
@@fa541 I don't exactly know which one it was, but I suppose they both make the same sound
Jemy yea my physics teacher has always wanted a hand held battery powered one so when he saw it in Chernobyl he practically wet himself
Well the battery powered doceimeter (spelling) will not make the clicking sound because it was a high-powered Soviet Geiger counter that was mainly use it sent out the alarm to the click and I’m not so sure it doesn’t matter would do that because it doesn’t actually have the gas in the centre.
Radiation is a far more, true, real life terrifying villain, than any fictional villain created. Plus, the most horrifying sound effect to ever existed, the slow clicking that becomes a deafening static crackling from a dosimeter detecting high radiation
And yet countries keep piling up more nukes 🤦♂️

Apparently the real life survivor Lyudmila Ignatenko was really upset by this series, claiming HBO didn’t consult her whatsoever, though HBO has disputed this. Also as a result of the show showing her when she was taking care of her radioactive dying husband, she’s gotten a bunch of death threats by disgruntled viewers of the show. You can have whatever opinions you want of her, but please don’t go attacking her specifically, hasn’t she already suffered so much?
This is hands down the best mini series ever. Maybe in part because it actually happened - but it was also just so well done. Stellan Skarsgard is incredible. He said so much by saying very little at times
It's crazy how great of a combo Jared Harris and Stellan Skarskard is. Most modern TV would force in a young good looking character to take up half of the screen time.
My grandfather was one of the soldiers, who helped in the Chernobyl disaster.
He said they always drank vodka, because vodka helped to reduce radiation contamination in the body.
But still, he died of liver cancer in the age of 58, that was caused by radiation.
I'm very proud of him and I'm sure he would be glad to see these series and was very happy to see the final titles "In the memory of all who suffered and sacrificed" if he was alive. I started crying when I saw those titles.
Me and my family want to thank all the people who made this film.

When you listen to the news and realize another season is not that unrealistic anymore...
Craig Mazin is truly a great writer, from Chernobyl to The Last of Us. Like he has a certain skill of making you shocked and sympathetic for people in apocalyptic scenarios
He didn't write The Last Of Us... It's a video game with an amazing cinematic story.
@user-xv9rf2ll3m he adapted it to the television medium, though. Neil Druckman (one of the creators of the game) no longer had much hope of adapting the game to another medium after a failed attempt to adapt it to film. So much so that he wasn't even interested in the adaptation offer that Craig Mazin (creator of the miniseries Chernobyl and HUGE fan of The last of us) sent him through the voice actor and motion capture of Dina (important character of The last of us part II), Shannon Woodward.
The game adaptation became a reality after Neil Druckman watched the Chernobyl miniseries and noticed Craig Mazin's talent. He became a fan of his own fan, set up a meeting, listened to the offer, accepted it, let him improve the story of the game into what was needed for a TV show and boom: the result was one of the best TV shows of the year and many many new fans of The last of us that wouldn't exist because most of them are people who never pick up a play station controller missing out on the opportunity to enjoy the great stories that exist in the world of video games.
@@user-xv9rf2ll3mCraig Mazin write The Last of Us, THE TV SERIES ADAPTATION 🙄, not the video game
*"Winter is Coming"* ❌
*"Nuclear Winter is Coming"* ✔️
Winter has gone and nuclear winter arrived... 😁😂
Sorry to be that guy, but nuclear winter is caused by the dust lifted into the higher levels of the atmosphere, preventing sunlight from entering and thus reducing surface temperature of Earth(only nuclear weapons and super-vulcanos are capable of that), Chernobyl could not have exploded in that way, the cloud would have been more poisonous and in lower atmosphere, raining all over the world in the worst case.
So term 'nuclear winter" is not really applicable

My family and I where living in England at the time of the Chernobyl disaster. And we're told that we couldn't go outside and it was scary thinking something like this could spread as far from Russia to England. Great miniseries and great cast!
It was in ukraine but you can still call it Russia which was a part of USSR
@@roxanajianu5434 Russia was Russia and Ukraine was Ukraine even then. Don’t call Ukraine Russia.
My parents were living in England and refused to buy meat or veg that came from Wales as apparently a lot of radiation ended up there when it hit United Kingdom. To this day they still don't buy anything food wise from them as it could still be in the earth
Were it not for the three guys going underneath the deadly radioactive core to cut off a water valve, it WOULD’VE irradiated the entire European continent. Those guys literally saved millions of people!
It was time of USSR. Then Ukrainian Republic, now Ukraine.
This is a truly brilliant, yet heartbreaking depiction of one of the most ghastly, horrific, & terrible tragedies in world history. Jared Harris put on a masterful performance for the ages. Hats off to HBO once again.
The scary thing is how people still ignore science to this day.
@running287 Vaccines and climate change I believe are perfect examples.

running287 I don’t know how I’m part of “you guys” but I’m not saying that the world is going to be set ablaze anytime soon. That said there is evidence that shows that climate change is a real thing and how it can affect your health. Hell, for the first time in three years cities like Beijing are experiencing blue skies
@running287 you're a running example of not believing science when there is obvious proof that climate change is real
Ps don't use the word prophet if you don't know what it means
It's not that simple, though. You can't argue with cold hard facts but when you factor in people and their agendas, it's suddenly up for debate... How do you know you're being given all the information, and if you can even trust it.

Chernobyl is now officially the highest rated TV series of all time on IMDB. That's a big achievement and it deserves it.
To Koncz David,
Thank you for bringing it to ALL our attention. Most of us were caught up with the GoT series finale crap.
Chernobyl is an event we as individuals and as humanity must NEVER forget.
Better than GOT
What is the name of that creepy song. In the trailer anyone .
@@barmanitera if u talking about that woman's voice that started at 1:23 that not a song it's a russian evacuation announcement, it's repeated one-word "Attention"
@Jacket Kavinsky no From 0:05 but thanks . And the attention VOICE is one of my favorite part .
The best 'fact' I've heard regarding this disaster...the city of Chernobyl will remain uninhabitable for another 20,000 years.
Today 26 April 2024...38 years 😢

Ursine Vulpine - I’m Going to Drive Until it Burns My Bones
You’re welcome
The moment when he said “you’re dealing with something that has never happened on this planet” i the chills bruuh
jmd2789 it was 400 times more potent than Hiroshima I believe. Just saw it in Reallifelore lol
@jmd2789 The Chernobyl disaster is more powerful than the explosion of a nuclear bomb in Hiroshima. I am from Belarus (this country suffered the most from the disaster), was born 10 years after Chernobyl (thank God healthy), but I know a few people who were less fortunate.( for example one skin spotted) something Like that. In this scenario, we have to have the radiation sensors in each house, but they are not. Every person should have crap to check food, water, etc. for the presence of isotopes, but for some reason not. The problem is further hushed up, because who will live where everything is poisoned? People further fool. Dunno what will happen in a hundred years. How it affected the genome, etc. But it's all true... If it were not for the sacrifices made by people, the whole of Eurasia would be in the same situation, even worse. Sorry, i'm used google translator.
Chernobyl was wayyyyyy worse than Hiroshima. You would know this if you watched the show or did research on chernobyl at all.

Bruuh? Straighten up and fly right.
I have recently watched this series and it is the best series I have seen in my life. At the time that this event happened I was one year old and I also lived in Romania which country is at the border with contemporary Ukraine. I wanna give thanks to all the heroes that were there in containing the situation. If the situation would of been a lot worse maybe I wouldn't be alive today.
"Men rise and fall like the winter wheat, but those names that live with virtue and love within their hearts shall forever bask in the glory of time."
Thank you for existing, you are the unknown heroes that watch over us and make a better world.
hopefully you mean real documentary, not these series?
@@UtamagUta The series follows real events.
@@unselfishlovemovement3925 it follows a book of collective memories, "Voices from Chernobyl" by Svetlana Alexievich. Also some characters are fictional. Creators even explained that very clearly in podcasts. For one, people not from russia proper were disallowed to work with nuclear projects - soviets were THAT paranoid of treason.
This is a greate series, bet from Biopic genre i think, but it's not a documentary.
@@UtamagUta Then let me change my post then, thank you for your input. I send you lots of love from Romania.
The scariest part of this series is the fact that this happened

Nope Wuhan is on fire, every virus is like a bullet penetrating everything in its path through any surgical mask.

The sound of the Geiger counter, the music, and the ”attention” horn create such a picture of urgency. Incredible trailer.
The fucking trees
Agreed, tbh I reckon the trailer is better than the movie
O I agree. I am so aboard the hype train.
The trailer actually looks promising and also keeping an eye on the historical facts. Some scenes look very familiar to a documentation about Waleri Legassow, which was quite good too.
I know, it sends chills down my spine.
A real horror.
No zombies. No ghosts. No demons.
Just humans, politics and greed in power.
Hands Down: The BEST docuseries I ever watched in my life. Such utter perfection in execution to explain how things went horribly down for the way it did, out of absolutely pathetic human ego-clashes.
When the horror film is based on actual events.
True fear is now known.
I believe this particular horror film is directly based on a 2003 BBC documentary, it uses scenes in the exact same order, and lines copied word for word. Both films start out with the suicide of Valery Legasov, the only two films to ever do that. Some of the lines in there were not known from historical accounts, but were made up by the BBC in 2003 by creative license, it would be one hell of a coincidence for this 2019 HBO film to use those exact same words.
You can watch it here: czcams.com/video/yk3-XUe0oEU/video.html
moeburn I’m sure if the BBC wants to take action they will. Whether or not this is a carbon copy or a recreation isn’t really my problem or concern. I leave that to the companies to decide if there’s infringement going on.
@@corbingrinstead5365 No I'm thrilled! That BBC doc was so good, I've been begging for someone to turn it into a movie for years. I'm just spreading the information because I want people to see the film this excellent HBO series appears to be inspired by.

Some people criticized the show because it was apparently demonizing nuclear plants. I was confused about this because I thought the show was obviously about the deadly effects of corruption and negligence/mismanagement because the disaster was so obviously caused by those, not because of the nuclear power itself.
Because Nuclear Plants are demons made by bigger demons known as human beings who like to show off their power while putting the world at risk.
It didn't demonized nuclear plants, it showed what nuclear plants can do in the hands of selfish people and organizations
