    HIGHLY REQUESTED VIDEO OF ALL TIME!
    ◽️
    My size:
    7 bottom (indicator)
    6 eclipse
    I know that this is whole size up and it isn't normal but it works for me. The half size is too tight for me and I find that my hand cramps a lot faster when I'm retracting. You get this numbing feeling when you're working.
    ◽️
    All of these gloves are good. They can all perform well in surgery and my recommendations are my own personal opinions based on experience. I don't like sticky and slippery gloves. I don't like constricted, tight gloves. My hands need to breathe! Each glove types have their pros and cons and I want you guys to try them all if you have them at your facility!
    ⭐️WEAR INDICATORS
    ⭐️ SET UP WITH NON LATEX
    ⭐️ ENSURE COMFORT
    If you're retracting and your hand and arms are fatigue, don't ignore the signs of prolonged numbing. You need to have a break and learn how to manage switching with different hands. I have a friend who held the scope for 3 hours straight and her arms had muscle atrophy. She was on leave for 3 months. So please, take care of yourself.
    GOODLUCK FUTURE ST!

    For all beginners and anyone setting up joint cases, I recommend always double gloving. You do not want to get a hole in your glove while grabbing sets. Only to realize after putting 5 sets on a table. Now you have to tear down and reset a whole joint case. Very poor form. Just double glove.

      I dont break for joints lol. So double glove is it and final. They only give us like 15 mins to set up lol theres no scrubbing back out.

    Hey… with the indicator gloves it‘s easy to explain: what you call yellow means uncolored natural latex, what is partly transparent. If underglove and overglove are both dry, there are 2 dry rough surfaces laying in contact an breaking the light, so the white/yellow part of reflected light is dominant.
    If liquid comes between the layers, the liquid is a „filler“ that covers or fills up the open space of the rough surfaces of both gloves. It’s like a bridge for the light and transfers/reflects then the color of underglove. Therefore, top glove always needs to be uncolored…

      Using only NON latex / latex free gloves is the best option. Who knows who could have a latex allergy, who is at risk or will react to it. Latex gloves can be such a hassle from what i've heard, seen and learnt from those who have latex allergy. Frequent exposure to latex can also make the chance of developing a latex allergy more likely. How latex and/or latex gloves can contaminate OR, wards, etc. Even if it's non-powdered, as latex sheds latex and latex proteins. I could go on and on about it. I know way too much info about it, more than i should.

    • @SURGICALTECHGEEK
      @SURGICALTECHGEEK  Před 2 lety +5

      @@thestrayjay2678 our facility allows us to choose latex once we know patient isn't allergic. Whatever your research is, I don't disagree but this is what we do.

    • @thestrayjay2678
      @thestrayjay2678 Před 2 lety +3

      @@SURGICALTECHGEEK That's real sad to see your facility allows to use latex gloves, as that creates a risk. Sometimes the patient themselves won't know they're allergic to latex, til the last minute or it's too late. I also hate the idea of patients and staff being exposed to latex like that, especially the patient. Coz once they're exposed, that's another chance of it developing or react more (if they're already allergic). It's not worth the risk or hassle, imo. With that, I'm just like "how can u be so sure. Either take the risk, expose them to develop it or just not take the chance".
      My research came from many people who have latex allergy for many many years, understand how it works, digging deep into info, self learning and more. Latex allergy is unpredictable, can happen to anyone and at anytime. Even having it mild can be quite hard and difficult to avoid exposures. Seeing latex still used in certain places, where it first started, is beyond me. There would be an outcry for peanuts covered in peanut butter used. As i have a Latex Allergy myself and know a lot of info, i always like to raise awareness, educate, give tips and speak up. Only where necessary and if it was mentioned.

    So where I work they double glove to set up, and I found out today a reason why. 2 sets of light handles, the wrap had a hole… if the scrub was wearing 1 glove it would be complicated to replace her gloves. Since she’s double gloved, she just shed the top pair and put on a new pair. This happened TWICE.

    Do you think if someone is not sure about doing nursing or anything else in healthcare that surgical tech is a good starting place? I keep hearing people say to just go to nursing school but right now I just want a job that pays ok to actually pay bills. If I became a nurse I would only want to go in the OR or do IV fusion. I already have a degree and have been taking prereqs but I can do the ST program in my city if I want to now at this point. My aunt has been a surg tech for 20 yrs, she is the first person to inspire me about the OR and healthcare.
