  • Donning Gloves
    1. Perform hand hygiene. If you have questions about hand hygiene, check out our hand hygiene videos.
    2. Take a pair of gloves from the glove container. Make sure to select the right glove size.
    3. Place fingers into first glove, and pull the glove onto that hand.
    4. With the non-gloved hand, place fingers into second glove, and pull the glove onto that hand.
    5. If you notice any rips or tears in the glove, then replace glove.
    6. Remember that if you are wearing a gown, the gloves go on top of the gown.
    Doffing Gloves
    1. The outside of the gloves are contaminated.
    2. Using a gloved hand, grasp the palm area of the other gloved hand and remove first glove.
    3. Hold the removed glove in the gloved hand
    4. Slide fingers of ungloved hand under the remaining glove at the wrist and peel off second glove.
    5. Discard gloves.
    6. Remember that gloves do not replace hand hygiene. You must perform hand hygiene when taking off gloves.

You've just contaminated the outside of the gloves as you removed them from the box!

He meant contamination from whatever we had done after putting on the gloves.

People are going to laugh at us in 1000 years. All of this is mostly unnecessary.

You wouldn't say that if you were aware of how short life expectancies were before the 1890s, before the Hygiene Revolution.

You obviously don't know history too well 🤧 search up Ignaz Semmelweis to increase your knowledge on how many physicians/professors/etc laughed (as you put it) at Dr. Semmelweis ... only to later discover that Dr. Semmelweis's advice on "washing our hands" saved countless lives from the 19th century and still today. The morale of the story is simple 👌

This is PPE, not sterility. It’s protecting the person working, because often non invasive forms of care are more harmful to the worker than the patient. Bodily fluids, diseases, etc etc, you name it. If this was a sterile environment, meaning the worker is to be protecting the patient, the gloves are packaged and put on entirely differently. In this setting, the gloves can be a bit loose, and they don’t come sterile.
