One thing my alumni told me is: when you get good experience in an industry and then do MBA, you become a very valuable candidate, especially in consulting.

BS. Indian MBA is a different ball game. Age below 27 is looked down upon. Average age of the batch in tier-1 MBA colleges is 22-24 years. Even companies lean towards selecting younger candidates as they're easier to 'groom'. Top consulting also select young candidates only as they can put them under high pressure that comes with the job.
I'm not saying it's not possible, but only in India you find people doing mbas at 22-24. Outside India, avg age is 28-35.

If you're born in India, prepare yourself for a long relentless competition. Schooling, entrance exams. graduation, post grad, govt exams, job hunting, shitty office politics, marriage etc. It's like a never ending marathon where every single milestone comes with its own exhausting contest. And the competitive mindset runs so deep that it spills into our daily lives as well. Take our traffic situation for instance. it's not just a commute, it's a freaking race to "be faster" than every vehicle in sight. People compete to overtake each other. No lane discipline, no civic sense. Nowadays, even parents have to be competitive just to enroll their toddlers in nursery schools/kindergartens bcos these institutions have upped their admission procedures by interviewing parents as well. What a mess!

The thing is that most of them are influenced by youtubers from a young age about stuff like coding and their packages and it sticks in their sub. When reality hits them that even the best of the best cant earn more than a certain point and they don't even have the money to study it and when they do study themselves and gain a lot of experience they get reduced salaries due to not having a degree.

In India, competition is fierce, and high scores in school are often valued more than actual skills. While an MBA might seem like a solution, it's not always a guarantee of success. The key is to focus on real skills, creativity, and adaptability, rather than just traditional metrics like degrees unfortunately this is INDIA and boomer culture will be passed onto the future generations

5 years ago, I had a similar debate with my fam and friends, and therefore, while other friends followed the herd formulae, I did my own business after working in start ups for 3 years
However, as you turn 28-33 age range and marriage-kids is now the factor, you do end up wondering if that MBA tag would have been helpful. Markets are always dynamic, this goes for business and jobs both.
So, my question is, Is executive MBA, for that tag and as last backup/security net, a decent option? Someobody in the comments mentioned that for consulting, ideally one should do mba in 28-29 age range.
If one was to shift to consulting industry, even if that meant starting as fresher with some 5LPA, is doing Emba in consulting and hoping to land 12-15 LPA once that 2 year mba is done and you've gained some experience, a confirmed end result?
I'm at this current crossroads where my business is automated, streamlined and now managed by fam, and so I can shift back to corporate and climb that corporate ladder. However, not sure what path to choose...
Mature suggestions will be highly appreciated 👏 (:

    • @TheNewKnightmare
      @TheNewKnightmare Před měsícem +1

Let me clear somethings about an Executive MBA from my understanding as an MBA grad :
      1. An executive MBA at reputed colleges (ISB, IIMA,B,C etc.) is usually through GMAT and not CAT, so you don't have to face the huge amount of competition that usually happens in a two year flagship MBA.
      2. Executive MBAs are almost always for 1 year with usually the same, if not more, amount of rigor that you'd expect from a 2 yr MBA.
      3. It is usually expected (but not the norm) that you'd retain your specialization from your work-ex even post MBA in an Executive program. Consulting usually has every industry under it's umbrella so you should be fine if you plan to switch to consulting in that one year of Executive or stay in the industry you have a work ex from.
      4. Avoid doing an online executive program from any institute or any kind of online course really. You don't really learn anything worthwhile and the degree/certification you recieve is not worth much.
      5. The thing from the video about doing an MBA from a reputed institute holds through for executive programs as well. Check QS ranking, check NIRF, check FT rankings to make your decision.
All this being said, my opinion is that doing an MBA does add value provided you know what you're doing. Provided you land a job as a consultant, you can expect anywhere from 24 LPA CTC to 40 LPA CTC. Anyone paying you below 20 LPA is doing a disgrace to your degree. Unless you are desperate, accepting such an offer will only put you back against your peers.
P.S please do research well by yourself on executive MBA programs in india. These are only my observations.

The Problem of going after what you want to do and not following the autopilot is,
India is not a country v can do this, or does the citizens have the money to take even a single gamble on their passion, autopilot is the safe way .
I was fortunate, from a financially stable family to take a gamble and c wer life leads but not every1 can do it .
Nor does the government give us, whether state or centre a safety net for its citizens without financial stability.
The government doesn't take care of you or does it have a emergency safety net for you, to put u back on your feet.
It's just You, Fam and few friends against the World.
Thts the sad reality of India today .
Most of us live from paycheck to paycheck .

    I have one question
Like I'm a ca finalist with the interest in finance but the roles offer to ca are not relats to core finance and are offered generally to mba
Even though with more knowledge , no roles are offered to ca's because of lack of networking and mba tag

What is your question? I dont see a question in your comment, just a statement, which to some extent is true (Im a CA and have worked in big4s and MNCs). As a CA your core competency is accountancy, audit and taxation, and finance management usually companies would prefer the MBA grads from the reputable colleges, but theres no thumb rule. Your financial knowledge, understanding data and ability to play with the data, communication skills etc will help you in getting your preferred roles. Our CA curriculum is too much about the literature and too little about soft skills, presentability, communication etc.
Hope this helps and all the best for your final :)

Isn’t it wonderful to not know what you want? Spend time finding what you do. Try new things, read more books, find more experiences. It’s better to figure this out now. I know this may seem tough, but it isn’t. Trust this is the start of something wonderful - Prateek.
