It's awesome how many of the iron body techniques translate through Okinawan styles too. Especially the makiwara boats and striking past drills.

    Jake, impressive as always !!
I do pushups on my fingertips, great for Shé shì tàijí quán (snake style tai chi).
Keep in mind that I'm 66 years old, so age is NOT an excuse !!

William, please tell me how to train for fingertip pushups. I am over 50 and practice Hung Gar. And I like Jakes' videos... And age, is no excuse!!!

    • @RocknRollkat
      @RocknRollkat Před 10 lety +2

mrdee, here's how to start. To begin with, I'm very light weight, at about 155 lbs at 6 feet tall.
If you're heavier or stockier, alter this method to suit your body type.
First, do pushups on your fingertips standing up and leaning into a doorjam or similar setup. Sounds 'girlie', but try it and you'll see why we start out light.
Shape your hands like they're holding tennis balls, NOT bending your fingers backward, but keeping them curved, fingertips closer to perpendicular to the surface.
Do a few 'standing' pushups like this to get yourself used to the idea.
Every few days or so, move your feet a bit further back from 'upright', and feel the pressure increase on your fingertips.
Several weeks in, and you'll have to put your hands on a pair of chairs, feet not all the way back.
Every few days, move your feet further back from the chairs, and in a few months' time, you'll be doing real fingertip pushups on the floor !!
Best of luck and keep us up to date on your progress !!
      Bill P.

most of these are a Japanese/Korean martial art drill for iron bone. Chinese is very different, but they all have a key place in the world of martial art. I suggest exploring them all, rather than dispute by which is better.... My only advice is that he not lock his joints so much, that will insure very bad accident.

greetings to you from the mountains of lebanon
jake.. i've started practicing iron bone training (from you) some not-so long time ago, and my hands(knuckles, hammer, palm, etc) are so much harder however..... i do have a very important question (make that two!) well first.. how many exact sets and repetitions per set (is exceeding better??), how many times a week? 2- ISN'T THIS HARMFUL TO THE NERVES on the long run?? i do repetitions of 25's on 6 sides of my hands, does this "thing" hold any risks on the long run!!????
    keep up the good work!

I'd like to point out that for everyone trying to put martial arts in one particualar group such as kung fu, you are wrong to do so, martial arts is just that the art of martial fighting styles, to remain locked in one style is to essentially choose death and stagnation, where as if you learn many forms kung fu,moi Thai, tai Kwan dao (sorry if i cant spell) you can combine and evolve past the limitations of each style, this is one of the best example of martial artist keeping their minds open and thinking, having watched some of jake's videos i have been watching the blocks, dodges and strikes and thinking about what could be changed to improve how to combine these styles with styles i,have learned in the past and even if and how misdirection and redirection could be applied.
