World's Most Dangerous Roads - Congo: Train in Hell

  • 00:00 The Congo is plagued by a vast network of roads that are either impassable or nonexistent, leaving the Congolese with limited options for transportation. Unfortunately, air travel, the most reliable means of getting around, remains out of reach for the majority of the population.
04:25 Journeying through the southern region, the Hirondelle train traverses half the country, connecting the capital of Katanga, Lubumbashi, to Ilebo. This vital train link serves as a lifeline for the remote villages that depend on it.
13:40 When the rainy season arrives, the roads become completely impassable, hindering travel.
20:00 In order to sell their goods, some individuals resort to traversing the entire country by bicycle.
27:15 Trains often make unscheduled stops to accommodate hurried passengers.
31:21 In certain parts of the Congo, traditional kings still hold authority over their territories.
37:40 Given the poor condition of the roads, bicycles constantly require repairs.
44:17 Sabotaging traffickers frequently bring the train to a halt, disrupting its operations.

I’ve watched dozens of these videos and I’m overwhelmed. Their world hasn’t changed much in hundreds of years and there nothing to give them hope anything ever will. They just have a will to survive that many in the world can’t imagine. Living in the USA I listen to entitled people whining about how tough their life is. They have no idea what tough really is. They wouldn’t survive a week in these countries. It’s sad I wish so bad there was a way to help them have it easier. Then again they appreciate the small blessings in life that many in developed countries take for granted and feel they deserve. I totally admire these people.

actions. The way for the man to travel is only a train if it is 30 km/ h speed. people seemed that they can't afford to buy bikes. they use the bicycle. the big problems are the transformation of a rail such as curve .

They already have interests in the Congo's plentiful mineral resources. The government should do a deal to have the Chinese take on infrastructure projects. They have a good track record in Africa. The West does not have the capacity, the will, or the money to do it. Of course, there are political and financial risks but what other option is there?
