  • The Douro Valley has always been on my list of must-visit places, not just in Portugal, but in the entire world. One of the reasons why I moved to Portugal is the fact that it's a wine-making country, producing world-class yet affordable wines. Douro, in particular, produces some of the most incredible, full-bodied wines available to humanity, and there's no better reason to visit the region, learn about its age-old viticulture, engross in its myriad regional delights and above all, absorb the immense philosophy available here. After all, it's not just about the wines that the Douro stands for, it's the wisdom that comes in every bottle. 🍷❤️

You are the master in this type of video that, in the end, tells a story that moves us all. The Douro Valley, in particular, and Portugal in general, also help, a lot, the argument that goes through this lens. Portugal is a magical land and you know it. A place of authentic charm that still resists in Europe and in the world, without presumptions and without falsehoods. Being only and just Portugal. Without wanting to offer stupid examples, think of the mountain that Cristiano Ronaldo had to climb, what resilience the Portuguese had to have to endure one of the greatest empires in history and that changed the world. We didn't do it for others. We did it for us, to prove to ourselves that a small nation, without natural resources, in a corner of Europe, was also capable of doing great things. That's what Portugal is about. Resilience, combativeness in "low profile" mode and a HUGE love for our nation that even the Portuguese often do not know how to explain. It is no coincidence that Portugal was recently elected the "Best Tourist Destination in the World" and one of the best places on the planet for a foreigner to live. Do you know why? Because just as some Englishman discovered the Douro in the 18th century, the whole planet now discovered Portugal and no longer wants to leave it. Simple...

Thank you for your super delightful comment, and thoughtful messages like yours truly gives me the reason to create meaningful videos. I chose to live here in Portugal because I found poetry here, and stories that are deep and as rich as time, and it's somehow imbued in my purpose to explore this country and find the many essences of this vastly underrated country. And you're right, the simplicity is the key. 🍷✨

Outstanding video, giving in a few minutes a deep insight on this excepcional region. Douro wines are the result of extremely hard work over generations and generations, to create the soil to plant vines on mountain sides that were basically rock and to keep it, despite the harsh weather, erosion and floods. And the ability to generate and transmit knowledge and experience.

Well he did for sure and that’s why we are grateful to God for blessing not only in the Douro valley but in the entire country I ❤️ my Portugal.

I often find vloggers struggle with food reviews. They seem at a loss for words when describing taste, often using the same couple of words over and over. At 10m.10s I was a bit disappointed. Flamenco is definitely not Portuguese music. It is not even from across the border to the east on the same latitude. It originates in Beautiful Andalucia, to the south of Spain. I must be picky around this subject, we are very sensitive to identity, and if you're showing a specific famous region of Portugal that must be taken into account. Also, the wine region demarcation History from the 18th-century Pombaline period is paramount to understanding the all socio-economical dynamics of the region, since it was the first regulated effort from the Kingdom to protect productions and the small farmers from speculation and greedy merchants (Sorry about that!).
Nowadays The Douro Valley is also a UNESCO Cultural heritage because the surrounding slopes are entirely human-made by generations of farmers that had but schist to begin with, and gradually were able to establish a connection of plant and soil. A Truly remarkable symbiosis of men and nature. The Regua city Douro Museum is well worth a visit and provides all information.
Northern Portugal has been inhabited for thousands of years and is quite complex in regions and sub-regions, even subclimates and culturally juxtaposed. Beautiful Amarante is close to the Douro yet well into the green wines area.
