In The Mood for Gerês & Douro: The Summer Edition | Best Places to Travel in Portugal

- Gerês and Douro, two jewels of Northern Portugal and summer destinations you cannot miss. Recently, I set foot in Gerés for the first time. It's been in my radar for a while, being a nature lover. And what a sumptuously green sanctuary it is. The Peneda-Gerês National Park is an absolute outdoor paradise, for lovers of nature retreats, hiking, exploring (or simply just unplugging and swimming in lakes). This is definitely one of my favourite places in Portugal, and a sparkling standout in the Minho province. That said, we tried some delicious Vinho Verde in the region, too.
What's more, I've revisited the Douro Valley, this time at the height of the summer. Douro is notorious for soaring temperatures during the summertime, but it's also an incredible experience witnessing this UNESCO World Heritage landscape working its full summer magic. Sérgio, from Portugal EV Tours, did wonders and toured us around the Douro (again!) in the most sustainable fashion, accompanied by the wine expert Salvador Sommelier.
And just when I thought this trip would end so soon, friends joined us in Porto and we're back on the Douro River again. This time, I realised what ties this journey altogether: kindness. Little acts of kindness, they can send ripples throughout time, and we reap them through the connections we make, the friendships we build, and the passions we pursue. Travel, explore, learn, connect, and then, be kind. ❤️

As a Portuguese I can only say thank you for this amazing video and yes it is based on kindness that Portugal has reached this peak that we are in today and acknowledge by millions that have visited us for decades and that today decide to spend the rest of their lives in this country appreciating the wonderful things it has to offer with respect and admiration for the effects of the ripples of kindness that have travelled through the ages until today.

What a video, haven't seen many others if any that showcase the beauty of Portugal like you have done
I awoke this morning to find you in my feed, what a gift and blessing to start my day! Although I was born in Canada, this is my ancestral backyard. My family comes from a small village on the border of Spain in Trás os Montes called Vilar de Perdizes. As I write this, my elderly parents are currently there for their annual stay. They have shared their time between the 2 countries for the last 20 + years with the exception of the COVID years.
After watching your video, it inspired me to journal. Here is the realization “for someone who was disassociated many times in her life as a coping mechanism to keep myself safe during traumatic times, I distinctly remember the way I felt each time I visited the area….it felt like a homecoming.”
Your videos are igniting the dream, the vision that I have kept suppressed as protection from fear of failure…you are highlighting that this dream is attainable. I am invigorated!

Beautiful job, i just wished you had experienced Passadiços do Paiva or the Salinas in Aveiro district. Or in my district of Leiria places like, Nazaré, Batalha, Fátima, Tomar, Serra de Aire, Óbidos, etc. Without forgetting our arcuipelagos of Madeira and Açores. All the best.

Geres I remember the name
Every district has a lot of towns I had to know all that before in school
Great idea but so poorly executed, the frames did not linger and everything was so rushed and then on the next..and then the next ....the spirit of the region is slow, slow, slow..but this quick, one second, quick next second completely misses the beat IMO...I was actually feeling rather ill with the visual rapidity. As I say lovely idea but not thought through enough
