- I have this retro Henry Hoover in today, in need of a very simple repair. Let's change his carbon brushes, and see how he runs!

Great video Sam 😊, this is one reason why I love Numatic vac's, they're ridiculously reliable and on the rare occasion one does go wrong, it can usually be fixed fairly easy and they're also powerful vacs too 👍
According to Numatic, Most of the 10 million Henry's they've built are still running today, I think that in itself shows just how reliable Numatic vacs are 👌
I did like the little nub in the carbon brush that pops out and kills the vac before damage occurs though, thats how it should be! If that was a modern henry it would need a new motor!
Thank you for the great video, Sam. I followed it to diagnose and repair our 1995 model and found the brushes had worn exactly the same way. I ordered new ones and took Nicholas cooke's advice and snip off the main brass tab. It's working great now, thanks.
WARNING: Don't snip off the brass tab that you have bent back to remove the old brushes. Instead snip off one of the small tabs on the new brush. When you have inserted the brush and got the brass retainer in position then bend the tab back to hold it in position. Doing it his way means that you will have the devils own job to keep it in position.
Thanks m8 you saved me a lot of time and cash.
Cool vacuum cleaner
I had one from 1990 and it worked when I plugged it in but when I went to use it a burning smell and more of a dark dust cloud than smoke, came out.
I've just bought a 1994 henry off ebay but the power switch and power nozzle input are the othe round. Does that make a difference?
Hi Sam, i have a similarly old henry which upto today was still working as new! Frustratingly that changed as the nut which is on the end of the motor decided to undo itself.
I tried tightening it back on but this didn't help and it span off on the first use. Any ideas on the problem?
Cheers!
Could you put a twin flo motor in one of these 90s Henry’s. I’ve just always wondered that.
👍👍
There are replacement carbon brushes on eBay for 2000s henry I’ve bought some recently and it works well
Are those motors available new?
Great!
I don't like people, who are not taking care after their vacuum cleaners, or robot vacuums.
Well, that is why you, me, and people like that exists :D
Cracking instructional video Sam. I have a Henry exactly the same as this one. Bought it brand new probably around 30 years ago and it's still going strong. I was sold when the guy selling it to me stuck a house brick on the end of the pipe and it held it. I could with changing the brushes. What site on eBay did you get them from?
It's certainly worth doing them before they cause damage. You'll need to know how old yours is, early 1990s onwards were the same size so hvr200 carbon brushes into ebay will bring up lots. Or open Henry up and if its old enough it'll have the details on the side. Just search the carbon number it says
Hi Sam, I bought a standard aftermarket Henry floor head. After a few months the switch you flip doesn't seem to raise the bristles completely. Can this be fixed or do they just break regularly?
I'd say one side of the paddles that push the brushes down has snapped sadly. Easy enough to whip the base plate off and check though
@@beko1987 I've had a look. The black plastic frame where the inner screws are have split. Is this the part you mean?
My nanny has one of them Henry they’re super rare😊
I have a 2012 auto save green henry that suddenly stopped working do i remove the pcb to get it to work?
Either that or buy a new one and install it
you can get carbons for uds motors
can the turbo socket and it's wires be removed? the silver rectangle thing snapped off mine. is it dangerous to still use the machine like this? no wires are damaged or anything
Yes it's removable, got to disassemble it a bit though then you'll find the wires come off the switch wire. Cut the wire as close to the spade connector as you can and just plug those back into the mains switch. Disconnected and safe then!
@@beko1987 thank you so much sir! Great help! Keep up the good work, amazing videos always!
What did you search for to get these brushes?
I opened the vac, and on the motor will be the part number for the carbons. I searched for that on ebay, then only bought from listings that specifically stated it. That way when the wrong brushes arrived I could send a photo of the motor and part number and get my money back from the idiots who sell modern hvr200 carbons under all the part numbers they can. Good luck sir... Could always file some larger ones down if your careful and keep the sides flat
They are a pain to get the motor covers back on aren’t they Sam!
I’ve got the same motor, but instead of the brushes being too worn down, they’re both seized inside the cartridge. Can’t get them to move in or out.
Common problem sadly, and sometimes quite tricky to fix. Removing the old brushes by brute force and as dust, then sanding down and fitting random other carbon brushes is the fix I've seen before. Hvr200 carbon brushes changed so much over the years and certain generations are hard to find, then your up against stock listings and crappy descriptions using every attribute in the ancient parts dstabase
My grandma was getting a new Henry and she gave me her old 1995 Henry to me to have in my collection of Henry vacuum cleaners cause I don’t have a 1995 Henry Hoover anyway she gave me the original small tools came with the original handle it had the original floor tool original hose original polls anyway like you used to 1995 in December I’m going to do that too
I want to wash that so bad lol.
What happened to the Henry green auto save?
I sold it as was to another collector who really wanted a green one.
Oh okay.
Is it normal that Henry smells burnt during using after changing the brushes?
No, apparently it means dust in the motors burning, to wash all the filters
For 15-30mins a little bit yes but if it's been more then 2h of use then definitely not
12:23 glad you scrapped the 2001 Henry! I really do not like the UDS motors! They're absolutely rubbish!! But the twinflo motors in e.g your mums Henry are the best! In my opinion!
Well his mums motor is knackered plus it might be getting scrapped too
Vac Washer26 the UDS ones are far worse. How do you 100% know that Crap-Tastic Henry is getting scrapped?
@@NumaticHenryLover I don't know I just think but I hope not
Vac Washer26 I really hope not. Really not keen on the 2011 Henry. There is nothing special about 2011 Henry. He wasn’t even like a blue, green nor even a yellow one (he would’ve been a clone to Steve’s one 😂) but UDS Henry’s particularly the rocker switch models are FAR FAR worse. I think they were the worst motors by far. Here’s the scale of motors worst to best.
UDS (99-04)
1100w type 1. (96-98)
620w (2014-Present)
Twinflo (2004-2014)
800w (81-90)
1000w (90-95)
Here are my opinions of the motors that Numatic have used over the years. Worst is UDS and best is the 1000w.
@@NumaticHenryLover why is the 620w shit?
I wish I could get a used Henry... my mother doesn’t think it’s a good idea to have used hoovers because you don’t know if they’ve been hoovering up stuff and if your using it for domestic use it will stink your house out lol... I still wish I could have them and start fixing them.
Yea that can be a risk. Can you strip one apart in the garden, soak and wash it, reassemble it then keep it?
I’ll ask.
Right hi bell nice to me you . I need my Henry fixed motor turns on off whenever it wants and has dirty smell tried clean and changing bag and it’s original numactixk bag plz reply s a

She still has it! I did plan to refurb it but ive not seen her in 2 months lol! We will see it again though, don't you worry! Apparently he has been hard at use in their new garage!
I’m excited :D
I would love to see your mums Henry again! 😄 I've been missing him!
@@beko1987 please refurb it instead of scrapping it Sam
