While Ukraine continues to launch long range missile and drone attacks on Russian regions , Russia will advance to create a buffer zone.

So, the Swiss summit with Zelensky's "peace formula" was a bit of a mess. The main idea was to get not just Western countries but also big players from the "global south" - China, India, Brazil, and South Africa - to discuss and approve Zelensky's plan as the main peace proposal. But then, the big three BRICS partners of Russia all refused to send leaders to the event. We don't know what India's stance is yet
And Hungary vetoed a resolution from the Council of Europe saying that there's no alternative to Zelensky's peace plan and they called for real peace talks to start with Russia involved. So, it's looking like most of the main leaders from the "global south" countries won't be at the meeting in Switzerland right now. South Africa and Brazil have both said they won't attend, and it's a big unknown whether China will be there or not." If they're not, it'll be a total flop. It's not worth having a conference with our allies if they're all missing, that's what Alexey Goncharenko, a Ukrainian MP, said.

However, the increasingly demented nature of the organ's coverage on Europe, cycling etc means that it cannot any longer be trusted on any topic - if indeed it ever could be. Last year's Ukraine much-hyped and well resourced counteroffensive resulted in gains of only 199 square miles (515 square kilometers) worth of territory by December, according to the Washington Post. Russia has taken 553 square miles (1,432 square kilometers) so far this year, of which 294 (761 square kilometers) just since the beginning of April, the US outlet noted. The data is sourced from the Institute for the Study of War, a DC-based think tank run by Kimberly Kagan - sister-in-law of Victoria Nuland, the former US State Department official in charge of Ukraine. So Ukraine counteroffensive took less territory in 6 months than Russia has taken in 6 weeks!! But according to Dom , Russia is on its knees and a 15:00 he claims Russia has still not managed to recover a much territory as Ukraine gained in its counteroffensive.

Russian Forces have seized approximately 100 to 125 square kilometers of territory in the northeast Kharkiv region, encompassing several villages. In this episode of The Grand Strategy with Major (Retd) GD Bakshi, he explains how the Russian troops are capitalizing on Ukrainian vulnerabilities in manpower and weaponry amid the delayed arrival of new U.S. military assistance. They are now pressing deeper into the partially occupied Donetsk region, with a notable focus on Pokrovsk located just inside Ukraine's border in Donetsk

The breakthrough of the Russian army in the Kharkiv direction of the front gave full initiative to the Russian troops not only in the 'Volchansk' and 'Liptsy' directions but also in other areas of the Special Military Operation. It seems that the rapid retreat of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the northern part of the Kharkiv region has finally destroyed the morale of Ukrainian soldiers. As of May 18, 2024, the retreat of the Ukrainian army is recorded not only in Kharkiv, but also in the Donetsk, Kupyansk, and Zaporizhia directions of the front.
