- Formula One (also known as Formula 1 or F1) is the highest class of international racing for open-wheel single-seater formula racing cars sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The World Drivers' Championship, which became the FIA Formula One World Championship in 1981, has been one of the premier forms of racing around the world since its inaugural season in 1950. The word formula in the name refers to the set of rules to which all participants' cars must conform. A Formula One season consists of a series of races, known as Grands Prix, which take place worldwide on both purpose-built circuits and closed public roads.
Stirling Moss and Alain Prost hold the record for most World Vice Championships (4). There have been a total of 45 World Vice Champions between 1950 and 2023. Sebastian Vettel holds the record for the youngest driver to win a World Championship at the age of 22 years in 2009. Juan Manuel Fangio, who has won 5 World Championships, has won the first World Vice Championship in 1950. Other notable people in this list are: Graham Hill, Nigel Mansell, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, and Lewis Hamilton.
20 of the 45 drivers on the list haven't won a World Driver Championship while the other 25 drivers have at least won one Championship. 9 World Champions have never finished second in a Championship.

Which driver will become Vice Champion in 2023?
Perez I think
Checo
Pérez
Verstappen, Alonso will be 1st
Please God, MAX
Can't help but feel bad for Sir Stirling Moss, he came close to the title so many times but never ended on top. He even has more wins than half of the F1 champions.
He will always be the greatest Vice Champion!
@@tommyracing2011 Surely that would be Hamilton given how all 3 of his vice champion appearences, went to the final race of each season.
@@AlwaysKeepCalm7 no
@@tommyracing2011 and he even overruled a penalty given to David Hawthorne who whould beat sterling Moss by 1 point in the same season the man was nothing but class
@@tommyracing2011 Lauda 1976 though, up there with Moss, imo. Lauda would have won, almost died, came back, and then at the last race stopped the race out of fear for his life. Legend.
Kimi, Coulthard and Rubens dominating the early 2000s hits different.
The 2008 picture of Felipe crying always makes me sad :(
He was only champion for 30 seconds, after Hamilton passed Glock at the finish line.
I don't blame Hamilton or Glock, but the attitudes of Ferrari that spoiled Massa's championship, mainly in Singapore and Hungary.
(The gas hose and the Ferrari engine)
I'm Brazilian, and Barrichello and Massa are very wronged by Brazilians just for missing the championship.
@@CaioCaesar Singapore was not really Ferrari fault, blame it on Flavio Briatore and Piquet jr.
@@CaioCaesar Then what about Malaysia and Australia where Massa crashed on his own and lost points?
Or in Japan, where he took out Lewis at the chicane or himself and lost further points?
Or in Silverstone where he spun like 10 times and got lapped by Lewis and came deadlast?
It's funny how Ferrari gets blamed , but they made 2 mistakes but Massa made 4 mistake. No one talks about that .
@@MDgp5dl Since Hamilton also made mistakes in the season.
@@MDgp5dl As far as I know Australia was an engine issue instead of pilot error, but you can replace with Monaco as 4th pilot error
2008 and 2012: so heart breaking pictures!

felipe:stressed af during finals
sebastian vettel:happy af cause it’s the final exam
fernando alonso:happy cause exams are over

That photo for Alonso in 2012😂😂
Those who don't know: 🙂
Those who know: ☠️
😢😢😢
that brazil
He deserves at least one more WDC.
Sad F1 photo ever.
Did you really put Perez shadow as the last picture? 😅😮
😂🤣
Because he will be P2 this year
He was right lol
2023 Mika Hakkinen of course. He's finally ending his sabbatical
Please please please, there're still enough races to make this happen🙏
Watch @TheRace publish a video speculating on that coming soon XD
"Every Year there's a Champion, but not always a Great Champion" Ayrton Senna
Wow, Stirling Moss 4 times, and in a row (1955 - 58), and with 3 different teams!
Ferrari could've had so many more titles 😢
2008 still Hurt, poor Massa.
That's why I hate Ferrari.
Massa is the real champion of 2008 cause "crash gate" by Piquet Jr (cit.Bernie Ecclestone)
@@stefanopiemontese2890 he made mistakes that season, if he had been faster, he would have won. All his fault
@Stefano Piemontese lol OK dear. Now run along the adults are talking
@@stefanopiemontese2890 it's crazy how people insult Hamilton fans for saying Hamilton is the real 2021 champions but yet you all still cry for Massa in 2008 😂
Farina in 1952 and Peterson in 1971 had been vice champion without winning any grand prix in that season.
Poor sebastion in 2017
And poor fernando in 2012(you really had to use that photo😂😂)
I couldn't resist using that picture🤣🤣
Well, I learned something today. I didn't know some of them were Vice Champions. Stirling Moss 4 years in a row? Damn... And for Damon Hill for example he was Vice for 2 years and got it in the 3rd year. Excellent Video! Thanks
Thanks Mike! Stirling Moss is the greatest Vice Champion, he scored 16 wins in his career, which is more than, for example, Jack Brabham (3 time WDC). He really deserved 1 or 2 championships!
@@tommyracing2011 The best quality of a driver : regularity, regularity, regularity. To be the fastest is a good thing, but it's sunday for the points.
Yeah, Hill should've won in 94 and 97. Crash with Schumacher was unnecessary then Williams booting him out after he won the WDC in 96 was poor.
In 95 the Benneton and Schumacher were untouchable though.
@Lps ct3 Yes, much like Irvine in 99.
So not only did Prost win 4 times, he came 2nd 4 times?
Underrated GOAT
*thanks for correction @TommyRacing
He won 4 times*, but I agree that he is truly underrated and even more underappreciated!
He was a serious title contender in 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1993.
That's 10 seasons of winning or almost winning the title. Incredible consistency.
Keep in mind he started his career in 1980.
Hamilton won 7 and second due to mechanical issues twice and robbed once
@@funnyshish6305
Nice revisionism bro
He was lucky to be 2nd in 2007, because he and Alonso should have been disqualified from the WDC for driving illegal cars. Not to forget that Kimi literally had 2 engine failures in 2007. Kimi fully deserved it with his clutch performance. Won against a cheating team with 2 unlucky DNFs.
Lewis was lucky to win 2008. Massa had an engine failure in Hungary and got robbed in Singapore.
Lewis could have won 2016 despite Malaysia if he wasn't so mid in the first half of the season with his shitty starts. Losing a title with one of the most dominant cars in existence against someone who isn't a generational talent, doesn't look good on a 7x champion.
Max deserved 2021. Won despite worse luck and a worse car. If AD doesn't get counted he wins anyway. You can't void particular laps.
@@ey1615 2021 is the greatest shame of f1. Michael Masi and his team ....
Wow! Really surprised, S/O to Ronnie Peterson. Coming in 2nd SEVEN years apart, pretty incredible at that time!
ronnie peterson was a very skilled driver, very underrated, in junior categories he had Lauda as a teammte and he managed to beat lauda
In 1971, Peterson finished second in the F1 world championship and won the European F2 championship. Quite a year.
Congrats to Sergio Pérez, Vice Champ 2023. For a long time it looked like it would slip away from him.
1993, I recomend to everyone to watch the races or look to the winners. Ayrton Senna made history, putting his name as legend of sports!
Shows you how dominant the early noughties Ferrari was that Barrichello - a great driver but never in the "top echelon" - was championship runner up twice whereas Montoya who was a fantastic driver never quite got that honour.
Early 2000's, right? And Ferrari was dominant only in 2002 and 2004 by the way. In 2001 only Michael was dominant, and 2000/2003 seasons were though, competitive.
You said "even Barrichello", but in no way I think Bottas is (or was when at Mercedes) than Barrichello ever was. Just search for some of his moments and you won't be able to find anything Bottas ever did that matches it. Even at the later stages of his career, in 2009, he was faster than Button in the 2nd half of the season, but Button had already made his lead, and the car wasn't as good compared to other as in the 1st part.
@@joaoandrade2828 The Ferrari was the dominant car from 2000 to 2004, hence why Schumacher won all championships, you put Mika/DC/Kimi/Ralf or Montoya in it and they would have been several times world champion too.
Nice one, I like this better than the formula 1 champion list
Alonso and Vettel deserves more titles 😢
💀bro Vettel has 4 and it's enough
I have to ask, did you put Checo's silhouette as the 2023 mystery vice champ? If so, nice touch
I did🤣

“Runner Up” ⛔🚫
“Vice Champion” ✅💯
"Gilles was the best and the fastest racing driver in the world. And I liked him as a man even more than I admired him as a driver." Niki Lauda
I guess Lauda wasn't paying attention when Villeneuve got destroyed by teammates Carlos Reutemann (1978) and Jody Scheckter (1979).
'''Individuals like Gilles only come to earth once. He was truly unique and I would have liked to see what career he would have had without this accident. It is actually disgusting how good that W11 was that Bottas was the runner up with the performance he had.

The outline from a picture of Perez ad the end is hilarious.
Moss: surely one more team change will do it.
1997: we know, who will Vice Champion:)))))
Yes, if only on sporting merit, Michael would be runner-up (imo even deserving to win it tbh), but we know what happened, and I think the disqualification wasn't unfair after all.
ferrari has 15 champions
and 24 vice champions thats pretty good stat there
Being a Ferrari fan, seeing all those Ferrari drivers in this video is just painful
In some years it was a 1-2 for Ferrari, such as 1974 (Lauda champion, Regazzoni runner up).
@Alejandro P.S. some of these are Ferrari 1-2s, but 1974 was won by Emerson Fittipaldi for McLaren
'74 is probably one of the worst examples for Ferrari, actually - Regazzoni and Lauda were leading 1-2 at Monza but both kept on pushing and their engines failed, giving Fittipaldi 2nd. Then Lauda crashed in Canada while leading which allowed Fittipaldi to draw level with Regazzoni for the last race (and he won the title by 3 points). Talk about self-destructing...
@@vettelfan17 Damn, I was wrong about the year. In 1975 Regazzoni actually finished 5th, and Reutemann 4th in 77, so no 1-2 during the Lauda era in Ferrari.
