The lackness of comments on a driver iconic and important as Piquet... Piquet was the only one to win twice without the best car and responsable for inventions like tyre blankets, pitstops for refueling as strategy, active suspension... a master mind capable of entering his rivals minds, overdriving the car and getting past reliabilty issues due to his unmatched mechanic knowledge... deserved to be higher on the list

In '81 he won because his car had hydropneumatic suspension which gave him ground effect during the races and FIA chose to look the other way... if that's not having the best car I don't know what is.

I think NELSON PIQUET IS SO UNDERRATED, specially here in Brazil, were Formula 1( to common people that aren't fans of the sport) is basically about how Senna was perfect and everyone else was a crap...
Piquet won three championship, two of them on a almost midfield Brabham car, and another one fighting against the whole Williams team that was inclined in favor of Mansell. He also won races in three different teams, that's pretty rare, even between the greatest drivers like Senna, Hamilton and Schumacher... I think he matches Lauda level, and should be atleast on top 10 of this list, in the place of Vettel or Alonso (*whose I also rate very high) for example.
*It would be nice to make a list of the greatest GP winners that didn't became world champions. It's funny to think that are plenty of those non champion drivers that are more memorable than many of the champions on this video (like Stirling Moss, David Coulthard, Carlos Reutmann, Felipe Massa, Juan Pablo Montoya, Ronnie Petterson, Gilles Villenueve, etc).

For once someone who doesn't underrate Prost - the most complete driver to ever exist. Senna and Alain should always, invariably, be #1 and #2 in these ranking, for the simple fact they had to deal with one another on the way to their WDCs (and with other drivers of such caliber as Lauda, Piquet and Mansell). Which one is #1 and which one is #2 is up to personal preference - Ayrton was speed and car control incarnate, he was one with whatever he drove to the point he looked supernatural. There was a reason why he was nicknamed "Magic". Alain on the other hand was "The Professor", and that too for a good reason: he had an unmatched ability to read the race and its development; he might languish in 4th most of the race, apparently off the pace...managing the tires, applying as little wear to the car as possible (in an era when usually less than 50% of the grid actually made it to the end of the race), only to storm to victory in the last 20 laps, sometimes inducing his opponents into mistakes just by posting ominous lap times (ask Gerhard Berger, Portugal 1988).
Third place is hard...I would go for a left field choice and put Niki Lauda there, because he won 2 of his 3 titles after a near-life-ending accident, because he had to deal with drivers of high caliber in equal or comparable machinery (James Hunt, Alain Prost) and most importantly because he introduced a new concept, the "expert driver" - a guy who not only drove fast, but also understood how the car and the team worked, to the point of being able to make a relevant contribution.
Schumacher and Hamilton are also difficult to place - both have been the class of the field at some point but they also enjoyed absolutely peerless cars for large extents of their careers, often with team mates that were specifically choosen not to be too competitive and sometimes contractually required to play second fiddle (Benetton was effectively a one car operation in the early 1990s, Ferrari went "safe" with Irvine and Barrichello, Mercedes put Bottas in the second car for 5 seasons 'because they knew he was quick but not too quick). Schumacher also happened to be around in a "competitive void", when the only driver on track of similar calibre in terms of speed and consistency was Hakkinen (and he retired at the end of 2001).
It's really a toss up, they could even be #4 ex-aequo, but i'd put MSC in #4 as he had an impact on F1 that Lewis hasn't had: a bit like Lauda, Michael "created" a new type of driver, an archetype that has become the paramount of the modern F1 driver: the 360 degree, super professional athlete driver. Constant training to be at peak condition, dedication to the team in pursuit of that last tenth of a second. All modern drivers essentially strive towards that model; A long shot from the days of the "rockstars", of James Hunt drinking beer and smoking cigarettes in the pits while entertaining the sponsor's models, or Nelson Piquet living on pizza and cigars while sleeping on the garage floor.
For the rest...I feel Jackie Stewart is too low in the ranking as probably is Nelson Piquet; Also - I know this will be unpopular with the CZcams kids - Max Verstappen is way way way too high, as he's certainly fast and a great driver, but he's still too young and while he did show merit winning in 2021 (aside from what happened in the last race), he's won 2022 and will win 2023 without any competition whatsoever as he's on a peerless car with the Schumacher-esque "competitive but just not enough" team mate. We've seen some brilliance and especially maturity early in 2022 during his battles with Leclerc (with 2015-2021 Max, these would've ended up in a crash), but if people make the "dominant car" argument for Vettel, it MUST be made for Max as well; The RB19 especially will go down as the most dominant F1 car of all times at the end of the season (bar Max and Perez coming together or some freak weather events in some race later in the year, there's little to no chance for a driver on anything other than a Red Bull to even win a single race this season).

Simply just no to any ranking that puts Seb above Nando.
About the Nando burning bridges. What are those burned bridged exactly? It's true he had some bitter breakups with some of his old teams but at the end of the day, the guy was able to return to Renault twice, once to McLaren and to this day still liked by the Tifosi. And now seems like he'll get back with Honda too if he still wants to be in F1. In the past they also said they were okay with him for IndyCar 2019 season anyway. Also, I really didn't understand how it will bite him after his retirement.
Lastly, I don't know how I feel about ranking arguably the most influental driver of all time 4th because he had controversial crashes but proceeding to rank guys who deliberately crashes into their teammates third and first

In my opinion Schumacher should be on top - He was totally unmatched in his prime. Also Vettel should be lower - the 4 titles were pretty much purely based on the car. This is also where the majority of Hams titles come from - Ham even lost vs Rosberg...This should never happen to a GOAT - Schumacher fought multiple times for titles in a mediocre/dogshit car. He even destroyed Senna in the first races of 94 in a fucking benetton. I actually never understood why so many people rate senna so high - he couldnt even dominate his own time since Prost was able to outsmart him twice... put some thinking into it, great rivalries were always a consistent measure for greatness. it's not only a matter of numbers, but also the relation with public and competitors alike. the fact that this is absent from the schummi era counts not as an "unmatched" but as the lack of something vital from the equation. Schummi has the records, no doubt, but what Senna and Prost represented in their Era was far more magnetic. and the legacy of Senna for the sport is unprecedent. Not only for his importance in a humongously vast country where car racing is not even popular, but because of the tragedy that struck his career when he was at the top of the game and it's lasting effects on F1. All that being said, my opinion is that ranking the best doesn't matter much for those ones who truly love the sport. what I want more than anything is to be witness of drivers so great as those ones discussed here.

Max just doesn't really makes mistakes, unless he goes uber aggressive mode.
Senna you have to give it to him, the way he controlled the car when they getting quite powerful but very skittish was incredible, and I would not be sure Max could handle those cars with so much oversteer, I feel Max requires the nose to be more precise, whereas Senna just ragdolled his Mclaren around beautifully as times..
Ayrton was just god-like, and at a time when you had to let go of the wheel to shift gears!

So unfair to place Hulme near the bottom... you are ignoring he was the #2 driver to the pretty selfish Jack Brabham, who always kept the best engines and updates to himself, and even did not tend an offer to Hulme to stay with the team for 1968.
Also underrated are Alonso, who nearly won not one but two titles with a dog of a car, Stewart, who beat the widely superior Lotus of Fittipaldi and Peterson in 1973, Fangio, who won almost 50% of the races he started up to the age of 46, Schumacher, number 1 in most non British F1 greats lists, and Verstappen, one of the most dominating drivers in history.
Most overrated are Andretti, who only won thanks to a contract that forced Peterson to follow him on track, Villeneuve, who only won when he had a monster advantage and was dropped in multiple seasons for reserve drivers, Damon Hill, who lost a title to a driver who missed four races, Senna, who won the 1988 title because of a weird rule that forced drivers to discard some of their best results (Prost had beaten him on total points), and Hunt, who won by a single point to a driver who missed three races.

The Ferraris of 2010 and 2012 were not dogs. Please be quiet. At some point in 2010 Ferrari was easily the quickest. It was a competitive season and Alonso never had a chance if Seb didn't retire from 2 GP's with an engine problem and failed brakes in Australia. In Bahrain he lost the win with another problem to be 4th. The McLaren was fast too. Alonso profitted from RedBull's reliabiltiy problems. Alonso didn't suffer from that ONCE. He made mistakes.

Official statistics are pointless when the sport has changed so much over time - a modern season has 3 times the number of races they were contesting in the 1950s, and 50% more than what a season was in the 1980s. The field is packed closer together, but it is way less competitive. The cars never break down and they're objectively way easier to drive - compared to the past, we see very little offs, spins and unforced mistakes during the races. The list is never ending, but the concept remains: the number don't come anywhere close to painting a full picture.

He is the best qualifier of all time though by a long shot. But in terms of the best driver I’d have to say Schumacher and Hamilton in second. He did have challengers in his career mainly everyone of them!! Being Rosberg who was a great driver and a WC, Button was a great driver and a WC and Alonso who was a 2x WC and reigning WC! Who Hamilton beat in his first season as a rookie! Senna also had a good teammate that he lost to aswell, being prost! You can't say Hamilton was never tested by teammates! Thats my point!!!!!
