- In this insightful mockumentary series from Charlie Brooker, Philomena Cunk takes us on a journey right up Britain's history, to discover who we really are, how we got here and why.
Along the way Philomena travels the length and breadth of the country enlisting the help of a variety of experts. In the final episode, Cunk has made it to the 21st century and Brexit.

I've just finished watching all 5 episodes and the biggest take away I got was that I need to watch Brush Strokes.
Are you a divorced, childless 45yr. old woman with really bad skin?
Nah you don't!!
It's an okay comedy, it's just about a womaniser and his brother who are both contract painters. Hence the title.
@@jeff3482 So the "strokes" part of the title implies a painter who gets plenty of coitus?
@@n.miller907 possibly, there's no obvious euphemism in the title, he's a painter and brush strokes is a painting term. He tries to settle down and try long term rels but it doesn't come natural to him, that's what the credits show he loves befriending women. That's about it really, counsellor Horton from vicar of Dibley plays his boss and the guy who used to play Burnside from the bill is in it as a fairly menacing character but you had to grow up in the late 80s to early 90s to have been aware of this sitcom which I did in Australia where we got alot of British tv and still do.
"Soon, everyone in Britain was swinging. Except convicted murderers, because hanging has just been abolished"
What, a, gem.
A Virtual Treasure Chest ! Too many to Count 🤣👍

As an American, I learned more about Britain from this series in a clear and concise timeline than I ever did in all my years of grade school.
Same.
as a brit, do you know what they taught us common folk in high school? Jack the Ripper. I have no idea why to this day we studied a serial killer. perhaps thats what they want for the working class
Never seen the Horrible History videos, huh?
As an American you probably didn’t realize it’s all a spoof, and you didn’t learn anything.
I remember seeing contextless clips a while back of something she did and thought that she was a total idiot. This is such a brilliant work of satire.
One of the best interviewees, Philomena finally broke him at 27:30

In my time Aussie schools taught British history - and almost completely ignored Aus history.
Now I understand.
All of British history was just laying the ground-work for Brush Strokes.
It all makes sense now.
Oh my god. Aussie schools these days ONLY teach Australian history. It's nauseating
@@micsunday14 What a surprise! Australian schools teaching about Australia for young Australians!?!? Poppycock!
I mean, Australia was originally a penal colony for Britain, so only makes sense that it inherits a ton of history from Europe. I think that was in the early 1800s? So it was still relatively recent, relative to other countries.
@@Mihoshika
I mean.
Seems you don't know much about Aussie history.
How has Aus 'inherited' ANY European history?
European history is what happened in Europe or directly involved Europe - eg the spread of the Roman Empire.
Aussie history is what happened in Aus or directly involved Aus - eg the trading between indigenous Aussies and Malays LOOONNNG before ANY European arrived; the fact that Cook did NOT discover Aus. (He new exactly where he was going AND had a map. The French and Dutch had been here long before Cook.)
How 'old' does one's own history need to be before it's worthy of teaching / learning.
FYI - the history of Aus is at least 40,000 years old.
I'm not sure why you've taken my facetiously ironic comment so seriously.
It's such a shame this show only has five episodes.
Which is exactly 35 episodes less than the BBC sitcom 'Brush Stokes.'
