It's not the roads that are the worst, it's the drivers that are terrible....
I really hate to discriminate, but I've watched hundreds of compilations of Russian dash cam accidents, and I can count on one hand the number of Russian drivers who can actually DRIVE. They all SPEED even when visibility is zero, and they're always talking instead of watching where they're going, so everyone they hit seems to surprise them. I'd laugh if it weren't so frickin' tragic.

It's unbelievable to me that you see the accident unfolding light-years before the driver does. Doesn't all that swerving up ahead mean anything to you? Are cars in Russia sold "breaks optional"?

One of the problems is no matter what any crazy driver does; going through red lights, coming out of side turnings, crossing three lanes of traffic, etc, they always think they have the right of way.
Driving too fast for the conditions in most of these cases.

Actually in poor visibility you want to place it 5-10 meters behind the vehicle with the accident to give other drivers more time to see it and slow down or stop.
Leave your car where it is if you can't place a flare or reflector behind your car and go to the side of the road. At least you won't be killed.

I have lived in Ukraine for the past 12 years and it is a constant source of amazement to me that so many accidents in Winter occur due to drivers not adjusting their speed to allow for the icy, snowy conditions. I mean, it is not as if such conditions are rare here and in Russia or come as a surprise.

The roads seem fine. The drivers however? A little phrase to keep in mind psycho Russian drivers. When you see snow, you should go slow.

I don't understand when someone sees that they're about to be in an accident, that they don't apply the brakes, and just honk instead.
People swerving, braking, chaos in front of you. What do you do? Honk and curse but never slow down. And apparently in case of snow, 100 kph is the legal minimum speed.

Dash cams are very common in Russia because of it. They use them to prove fault in an accident.
The side effect is tons of footage of wrecks and bad driving.
I pay $ 45 per year. But I've been driving without crashes for the past 15 years.

Pretty much a certain Fatality of the Driver of the on-coming car, who was perhaps killed instantly when the driver of the truck (whose camera we are watching) accidentally crosses over into the innocent car driver's lane...
