  • Alco/MLW power on the Pacific Region (Former S-BC and FCP railroads) of FNM (Ferrocarriles Nacionales de Mexico) taped in 1993. Models are M630 and M630W (ex-BCR), M636, API620, RS-11, RSD-12 along with a variety of older and Super-7 GE power. Also included is a brief runby with PA 17 at Empalme and the S-BC FT being pulled from the shop at Benjamin Hill. Passenger trains are also featured including the combining of the SBC train with the Nogales FCP service at Benjamin HIll. All of this is gone now.

Those M630W's are so cool. I only wish more railroads had owned them so we could've seen them in different paint schemes.

Thanks for posting this!! This is the best FNM footage I have seen other than the Pentrex videos, the Mexican railroads even into the FNM era had much of the character the US roads had lost years before. Its sad that except for the few preserved in Merida and Puebla, every single ALCO in Mexico was scrapped. And hardly a passenger train left. I would have loved to visit Mexico back then, I dont think I will ever get tired of seeing videos from the FNM era.

The FCP and SBC railroads were pretty much an operation of their own even after the unification into the FNM sistem..pacifico was still using numbers to identify their trains, like they did when it was part of southern pacific(up until the end)and it was an all ALCO-GE road.SBC was an independent operation and it was mostly a EMD road until the MLW's arrived..now being ferromex territory, the alcos and the empalme shops are all gone,501 survived until 2000 serving ferromex, then it was cut up,

Nice to see The Sierra Madre Express shows up in a cameo appearance. Too bad PA-1 #17 got snatched up by the government, and placed in a railroad museum on display (despite it's operational) when it could be back in the US.
