Alcos in Arizona from 1989 to 2000 including the Apache Railway, Magma Copper/SMARRCo operations, and the Magma Arizona RR in the post-Baldwin era with ex-Reading RS-3's.
Amazing! Watching that old Alco cross US 60 at 45:35 sure brings back memories! Who knows, with the new mine soon to open at Oak Flat, maybe we will see it again some day! I sure hope so.
Magma railroad will be running again in the near future, I was at magma junction and they are revamping the place, tore out the original lines and are replacing with new, had a bunch of resolution copper/rail restoration signage on site
Jake Guthrie I’m interested in learning more about the Magma Arizona and its future. I was wondering what you know about what they are doing so far to restore it? I would go check it out in person but I procrastinated getting my drivers permit so I can’t drive yet
One of the RS-3s from Magma went to tenesee where a tourist line, new river railway ran it. They parked it one weekend after trying to resolve an issue with track warents and some crack heads steipped parts off it in literaly 1 night. And its been sitting there ever since.
exactly what portion of Az did this clip get recorded at?,early age was at Safford area, made lotta trips to Morenci(dads freind worked the mine),got real acquainted. with the ESPEE local
Hello. I was wondering if I can use the Magma Arizona Railroad portion of this for an event that I am doing on March 6th, 2022, in Superior, Arizona about the Magma Arizona Railroad? If I can please let me know?
@@fmnut That’s all right. How do feel about it in Arizona’s Shortline Railroads? What did “Every engine has to pull its own freight train,” mean to the San Manuel Arizona Railroad ore freight train?

Old ALCOs never die. They just rumble on, out in the boondocks.
Wonder how many of the old gals are still running?
Love them ALCo's!!!
Nice to see engines equipped with oscillating lights instead of ditch lights. Oscillating lights are more attention-getting than ditch lights.
There is nothing like the sound of an Alco rumbling away. Fantastic video!

@@colonelcactus2462 As of right now, there's still an oil pipeline running along the tracks. Still no sign of life in terms of railroad operations.

What happened to the San Manuel Arizona Railroad ore freight train?
The mine and smelter were permanently closed in 2003.
@@fmnutDid you know that I found it in Arizona’s Shortline Railroads?
@mbart5113 no, but I'm not surprised.
