- I've always been afraid to try OSL - it's such a daunting task, but the final results can be incredible. This is my first attempt at the effect.

Finally found a miniature maker who works with my specific disability (ADHD) and doesn't bore the ever living crap out of me!
Cosiest channel on CZcams, love having your stuff on in the background while I do my own crafting!
I'm a pretty cosy guy! Thank you
I don't think I've ever really seen you layer and edge highlight until it was time to paint Lara's chest! Obviously the best tomb raider memory was locking that annoying butler in the freezer before swan diving off the landing out of guilt.
Super nostalgia kick when the first tomb raider music kicked in😂. These turned out great by the way, nice work👍
Love me that original theme. I think 3 is my favourite!
I loved the old tomb raiders they had more puzzles and less fighting, great build and paint, very helpful for a noob.
Which one''s your favourite? I'm a TR3 guy through and through.
@@MSPaints the last revelation is definitely my favourite, loved the whole Egypt vibe
@@tamsynmcnally8280 Good shout - need to give that and chronicles a proper replay.
I just found you and omgg where have you been all my life...M.S. be damned you are bad ass!!! Thank you!!! Originality, art, self expression, the true human experience. You've inspired me in my own art!!! Thank you!
Goodness! I wouldn’t go that far! I spent most of my time swearing at the thing off camera hahaha. But if you’re inspired then I’ve done a good thing today. Thanks bud!
I'll be honest I mainly listen to YT videos and you sir, you are a pure enterntainer ! This is my kind of humor! (And great work on the piece itself). Well done 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hello there! And thank you. Been following your work on Instagram for a couple of years now. Amazing work my friend!
@@MSPaints well thank You very much , glad you like it :)
Loved this Dave - laughed like fuck and learned a lot at the same time.
First played Tomb-Raider when I spunked my student loan on a Sega Saturn back in 1996. It blew my fucking mind - especially that "cistern" level. Mental.
Thanks as always for the time you (and your puppet mate) take to make these videos.
Ah ha! I knew one of you would be a Saturn guy. Yeah that bit is still hard as nails. No worries bud, thanks for watching!
Fab experiments, great to see experiments and how they pay off 🤩
I so thoroughly enjoy your videos and your relaxed approach. I can get stressed and frustrated over my failed attempts and your videos are a useful guide for dealing with it.
Yeah, it can be a stressful hobby when things don’t play out how they absolutely should! But happy little accidents aren’t the end of the world. Unless you’re a nuclear power station tech.
Man that soundtrack sends me back
I thought a few of you would get a nostalgia tickle! haha
Love the music at the end.
That's cracking work. The finished pieces are tip top.
Thank you, bud!
Your my absolute favorite to watch! Great just great fun funny skilled thanks for your videos
No problemo! Thank you for watching!
Got my subscription from this and teaching me about Mirfield miniatures down the road from me. Loved the boat race in TR2, games don't feel like they challenge you like they used too (i guess we spent more time fighting the controls ;p) and locking the butler in the freezer of course, has to be mentioned, love the channel excuse me while I binge the backlog
Tomb raiders were especially brutal! Binge away my friend!
Great video as always! I’ve tried OSL once before but couldn’t get it right. Your ‘eureka’ moment in the video has made me understand why mine didn’t work so I might revisit it at some stage.
As for memories, who didn’t love locking Winston in the freezer in TR2!
Yeah man! looking forward to seeing you try it out on the channel. Love love!
Never really liked Tomb Raider, so my best Tomb Raider memory is definitely this video. Great vid as usual, keep them coming!
I'll take that as a compliment! haha, cheers buddy!
Oh, that Tomb Raider music really hit me in the nostalgia gland! Brilliant diorama!
I aim to tickle those glands on the regular! Thank you bud,.
Another absolute belter of a video, great content, great subject matter and very, very funny!
Thank you bud! Cheers for watching
Dude these look amazing! Jumped in the deep end and smashed it!
"dafuk is ohsell" 🤣🤣🤣 Nearly spat my tea out!
Hahaha! tony never did tell me dafuk ohsell was!
I saw it was new from you... clicked like in the first 10 seconds stuck around for another awesome vid!
Nice to see you back! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely cracking video, Dave- cracked me up with the glue gun bit where you pretend to burn yourself :-P You and the puppet chap are hilarious in your horror at Marco blasting Gotrek with white ink lol
I've avoided OSL as well, but it was nice to see someone else struggle with it and power through. I think the diorama with the cold light from above looked absolutely spectacular- your shadow game is top notch!
Great work on the other one too!
Thank you bud! I'm glad to see people are liking them - on the final day i never wanted to look at them again, so it's reassuring!
Fark mate, this is phenomenal! I've been doing this shit for 20+ years and I've never tackled OSL!! You absolutely made this look friggin easy!!
Thank you bud! Have you ever tried it? Or have you tried and never been happy with the results?
@@MSPaints Well, I have tried it but never had good results. Then again, I'm one of those idiots that rarely researches how to do something, I just roll up my sleeves and say "Fuck it, let's do this!" :)
@@KnightsOfDice sometimes you just gotta roll dem sleeves!
Brother that's an amazing project. I think I'm going to do one of those book shelf dioramas for the wife. Thanks for the inspiration.
No worries! If i'd actually cut my angle right i could do the same haha. Glad to help you be inspired bud! Cheers
This was very informative. I love the commentary as usual. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Haha, that research for new techniques is exactly what I do. Search the term, check if Vince has anything, if not I'll fall back on Squidmar, Miniac, Ebayrescues and whoever else is in my list with possible technique videos, also yeah Marco is a bundle of joy, but since he loves oil colors so much, I can rarely use any of his videos ^^
Oh dear! Can you not use oils or do you just prefer not to?
@@MSPaints I already went overboard with buying everything else, don't want to go down another sinkhole. I DID get the ammo mit oilbrushers though. Since those are at least a bit experimenting with oil, but without needing to get any other supplies for it
Excellent video Bro!
Those little resin details make me a thirsty boy.
Cheers man! Oh yeah - all them little 3d printed rifles! Yum!
Man. This is inspiring the hell outta me to try some scenery and boards.
I remember playing the Tomb Raider demo on the PSX, but no other memories do exist :(
A very tombraiderless life I guess
The meaning of HOT in hot-glue gun, my fingers alway forget about this and don´t hesitate to touch the still hot glue, they not patient at all
Sometimes my arm just misfires and drives it into my other hand, hahaha. It's funny at first... but quickly becomes tedious! haha
Hot glue gun- so true... Cheers for another sweet sweet video ;)
Haha, every time!
Came here from Geek Gaming, staying for the ginger beard. Great video mate.
Thank you! I'm due a trim i think.
Ha ha, loved this video!
Hey man, love the channel, and your attitude. Much love and respect. Keep it up 👍🏼
Cheers Sam! Thanks for watching
First video of yours I have watched, you're a funny guy. I've subscribed and look forward to seeing more of you.
Thank you for the sub!
Great job, they both look fantastic.
Thank you bud! Glad to see you again!
hey man, have been subbed to you since before you had a 1000 subscribers (the dark ages) and you are gold man!!! much love your way.
Thanks for the support! Big love to folks like you who been here longest!
So much work for this video ! Well done !
Thank you bud!
Been bingeing your videos , can we have some more please?
I'm working on it!
haha ya marcos intro is fantastic lol love you dudes
ya i love those inks
As always another brilliant tutorial my man
Thank you dude!
I think the effect looks really good for your first attempt, gave some good tips for my next attempt too. Thanks for the shout out brother. The beginning with the puppet was very funny
Any time bud! Thanks for the support!
grease proof paper is designed to survive grease and as such can become bonded to a lot of glues and adhesives. i have used it for lantern making
Seriously this is your first crack at OSL. It is epic and looks brilliant. I also like how you go through it in a simple format that anyone can understand. Keep up the good work sir
Cheers, my man! Nice to see you here!
OSL arghhhhhhhh apart from a necron glow from a weapon or sphere not really tried until recently with the warband I got with catacombs not great is the initial attempts lol but seeing you percervier and ultimately smash it out of the park means I will have to carry on and give fully on fire dude a go. Seriously great vid love the style nod to others piss taking love the puppet and you just seem to land on the side of me always wanting more comedy sketch, piss take which means you probably have the balance bang on new favourite watch ⌚😀
Thank you buddy! Glad you're finding inspiration to power through! ... also who you callin' a puppet? Ain't no puppets here. Just me n' Tony.
Your production quality and puppet work, off the charts man! I love this!
Perks of being a puppeteer for 5 years! It's a useless skill i just had to make use of. Thank you!
Great video!
Thanks!
This came out so good!!! Love looking through the small cave opening at the top-down light, really well done!
Awesome stuff - OSL is a real head melt these look class
Cheers bud! It is indeed - i aint goin' back to it any time soon for sure.
Thanks for accessible content. Time to get off my ass and make mistakes : )
Just don't make mistakes with hot glue guns. You're welcome!
Awesome content my man. I came here from your GW White Dwarf nostalgia trip video and I really enjoyed that and wanted too see more, im subbed dude keep it up!
You did a pretty damn good job imo
Thank you!
OSHELL!!!
lmao, love it
I honestly thought from the thumbnails that both dioramas were lit with physical lighting.
Had no idea what OSL was prior to this.
Damn. Guess I errr… guess I did alright In that case! Thank you
Awesome vid mate 👌
Than k you bud!
Noice! 🤘🏻
Cracking job mate! And to think I can’t get OSL from a lightsaber right 🤣
At some point I’m replacing all the legion sabers with leds and rods. I ain’t touching osl again in a while! Haha
@@MSPaints ooooh nice!
love this
OSL has always scared me :D Though at the moment I'm mostly doing rank and file historical stuff I was thinking of trying some when I try to paint some of my Angmar ghosts/wights/evil dead things... I quite like the many OSL stuff people do for their Legion stuff too, it can really make a lightsabre look good without needing to replace it with diodes and stuff.
Ghosts and wights will probably be quite forgiving to try OSL on! I know it's pretty breezy to do it on Nighthaunt.
I just discovered your channel and I must say it's a real treat. I could only wish my first osl attempt was so fantastic. Top rate work, brother. Instant like and sub from me. I will be definitely checking your previous videos and very much look forward to what you have planned for the future. That said, it will be later that I watch more as you have inspired me to tackle my current painting project with osl included. Thanks for that.
Good luck with it. I think it's one of those things you gotta keep making mistakes with to understand it properly :)
@@MSPaints well, in that case I will understand it like no other as I have made more errors than one could believe. 😅
Love this. Really clear, definitely got me moving towards an airbrush!
I been workin' on you for months and this was my final play. This whole thing was a ruse to get you to buy one! haha
omg this is amazing love the vid deffo subbing your channel needs mre love and subs
Thank you, bud!
Love the videos Dave, spent to long swan diving Lara into her swimming pool in the mansion and killing her as a teenager.
Hey Mate brilliant videos, love it, the honesty on the process and showing how to take away learning from your f'ups is just awesome. I watched your latest vid (I think) where you did Tim Curry and smashed out the OSL just showing dig and in practise. Thanks for inspiring.
Haha, wasn’t even intentional, just kinda blasted it way faster than expected haha. Thank you!
Great video
Thanks, Naggz. You've got a bad rep but you're really an okay dude!
@@MSPaints Yeah, I never understand why people dislike me so much...
Anyways, back to torturing souls
Good video dude. Osl is a bitch as essentially it only really works in darker areas and trying to understand how light works hurts my head on the best of days. It looks sound what you've done though and I would be very proud of that. Looking forward to the next video
Thank you bud! Glad i'm not the only one who's brains get scrambled by trying to understand light!
Nicely done mate, they look good. tough thing to do and you didn't make it any easier for yourself !
Nah i shot myself in the foot big time! Video was meant to be out last week. Lara just kept kicking my ass.
@@MSPaints haha, you got there in the end though and it made for a really good video mate.
@@phileast1654 Thanks man!
Me & my girlfriend played Tomb Raider and couldn’t get over how many men she’s killed. Not even in self defense either, like actually just hunting men and snow leopards for fun. Near the end you get poison gas arrows that kill a room full of dudes at a time. Hilarious game, good times 😅
I really enjoy your videos. But I didnt quite get what you use for the sculpting of the cave wall. What is that grey goey stuff made up of? Thanks in advance!
It’s home made sculptamold! It’s a paper and plaster mix.
👌😁💚
My favorite tomb raider memory is stealing at least five or six different scenes for various D&D games over the years; it's a neat trick to have in the back pocket for when those pesky PCs decide to go off into some caves or searching some artifact ahead of any sort of prep.
Dioramas as presented by you almost seem...doable? Stop giving me this false confidence in my hobby ability ahaha
Haha, if my rickety ass can do it, you can do it!
Love this, you utterly brilliant bell end.
Brilliant Bell End! Hahaha
Is that FF IX characters I can see in top of monitor?? If so where did you get them from man!
From Japan! They’re a Coca Cola promo tie in. Not too hard to find. Price can be pretty stiff but ffix is my absolute fave so had to go for it
@@MSPaints it’s a classic, my top 3 Games are 1: FF7 2: FF9 3:FF8.
I’ll have to keep a look out on eBay for them
@@daveH786 currently playing through 8 on the switch. Way more enjoyable now I’m a functioning adult who understands how it works. Really solid!
@@MSPaints literally just started the remastered version of 8 on ps5!
@@daveH786 high speed mode is a godsend hahaha.
Getting shit done
Looking forward to the Nerf gun video
As am i! currently running around gathering up all the ones in my city, haha
@@MSPaints you picked a good time for it, I've seen loads of bundles on Facebook marketplace. I've got about a dozen now so stopped there!
