- 3D print and paint a realistic Lara Croft climbing an ice wall.
Thanks to Elegoo who provided the Mars 3 and the Neptune 3 PLUS - both are awesome printers and I could not have done this without them.

I do love Tomb Raider and I have had this model on my to do list for over a year. I was mulling over how to do the ice wall as there are so many different ways but getting the translucent look was an issue. I did the ice cavern a few months ago and transparent filament was the answer but my ice wall was too big for my current printers. Before I sliced it up into little pieces to fit on my existing printers, Elegoo stepped in and offered me their new Neptune 3 PLUS. It is a sweet printer and has worked really well. I was surprised the icicles printed so well but they came out perfectly being more transparent at the bottom as you would expect.

That Ice wall turned out amazing
Thank you!
What a nice composition, awesome!!
Thank you.
That looks great Kathy.
Snow and ice are not the easiest things to get right but that has just the right amount of shimmer to it. Well done!
Thank you. I was worried it looked too iridescent at first.
That’s a proper paint job on the figure really well done . Perseverance on the ice paid off looks good
Thanks Sam!
You are good young lady, Lara looks quite good, that wall does too; well done. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2023.
Thank you so much! Happy Christmas to you too!
Wow that is pretty stunning.
Love the colours too.
It looks fabulous
P.s the ice wall looks real tbh
Your ice climb diorama looks great it looks 👌 😍 realy t o me keep up great 👍 👌 😀 work you have a wonderful and great day be safe
Thank you so much.
amazing as always! A diorama from the newer games of the river rapids, or the parachute through the trees would be absolutely brilliant to see.
They would be cool!
Fascinating process and really cool result. The ice looks cold!
Thanks!
Superb ice & snow effect. I think the two shades of the print added some effect as it looked like sediment and dirt had collected in the lower section.👍
Thanks so much!
What a nice diorama idea and amazing build video
Thank you.
Just fantastic!!! I had not seen your other Lara diorama's and need to go v\back and see them, Superb!!! Blessed holidays and wishing you and yours a happy new year!!!
Thank you and Happy Christmas to you too.
Wow. Just wow. Great work!
Thank you
I almost forgot your Christmas Bonus, again, Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year!
John - thank you so much. That is amazing! Merry Christmas to you too and a Happy New Year.
That's gorgeous.
Thank you!
Nice work Kathy.
Well done in hiding the two different filament colours.
I think my longest print has been 56 hours.
Always scary you'll get a print failure with that invesent in time.
Looks Great.
Mon from Monsville Railways
Thanks Monique - I do have a UPS on the resin printers but I hope that the power cut restart works on this printer should something go wrong!
Brilliant! Well done! 👍
Many thanks!
I absolutely love this!! Well done ☺️☺️
Thank you!! 😊
Is spectacular and gorgeous
Thanks!
This is absolutely awesome!
Thank you!
Just excellent, what a sculpt you made 😮 and wow! What a print! I don't know if I've spent 100 hours playing that game, but probably close! The reboot Tomb Raiders have been some of my favorites and that's a great tip using the official color pallets as a guide.
I love Tomb Raider and I have every collectible item in game…. Definitely 100s of hours.
@@KathyMillatt ah yes! A true collector 😁
Happy Holidays, Kathy! 🎅🎄☃️
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Thats incredible!
Thank you!
WOW, nailed it!
Thanks!
Oh wow! Kathy! Lara and her ice wall came out magnificently.
Thanks Norm.
this is ace love the icicles :)
Thank you!
That ice wall is an impressive piece of work, from the sculpting to the painting. Nice job!
I'm surprised that Lara is just attached with superglue. I would've thought a chunk of resin that big would have to be reinforced or pinned somehow. But perhaps it's not as heavy as I'm imagining it.
Hollowed out, thankfully!
Definitely hollowed!
The creator shows the model hanging by just the ice axe but that didn't seem strong enough.
Looks great. My thoughts were what a great book end it would make
😁
Vraiment superbe Kathy
Merci beaucoup
Thank you so much for sharing this with our community. This is beautiful. Subbed, liked, and commented!
Thanks Ty. That means a lot!
Awesome Job
Thanks
Another great adventure Kathy. Good job. I remember doing something similar with ice on a Shackletons diorama. To save time I only printed 'the surface' of the ice wall. Behind it I used foam painted a light teal color. All the tones came through the clear plastic and it didn't require much painting. Across the top, hiding the seams, I gave it a top coat of snow. Worked really well. Cheers!🍺👍
That's a great time saving idea I may have to use next time! Thanks.
Good work 👍👍👍
Thanks 😁
Very nice done I like it.
Thank you very much!
Awesome
Thank you.
Ice to see this!
🤣
This is absolutely incredible! It really looks like you somehow just shrink ray'd a piece of real life.
Thanks!
Hi Kathy, another stunning diorama, Lara looks so life-like, it's like looking at a photograph of a real person, and the ice-wall is superb, anyway, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, stay safe, all the best from Scotland, Stephen.
Thanks Stephen! Merry Christmas too.
The fact that the back of the diorama is also translucent clear white is cool, a different visual for a back of a diorama for once, and it fits the theme.
It is cool! I will be using it again.
OMG - Kathy your amazing with all your models ! You must work for some movie company in the UK ? Love from 🇨🇦
Thanks! I don’t but I’d love to
That FDM worked pretty slick . I just picked up the Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro for my daughter for Christmas so we are floundering trying to figure out and finding settings . Our third try wasn't to great lol Filament kinda wasn't going down right and had gaps. But after re-leveling and raising the print head up a tad its working , but still not sure if it's right . Our first ( Well second Printer since the month before I bought another brand and it was a nightmare and Elegoo worked right out of the box for us ) printer was the Mars 3 Pro we got 3 months back and I am really liking Elegoo thus far for what it does . Other thing that I like is Lychee Slicer works for both printers so I dont have to dance around with slicers . Wonder if a model like yours if you put a blue LED inside if It would make it glow some at night fir a nightlight ;)
I do like Elegoo products and I have not had problems with them like other brands. My Neptune 3 levelled easily but I did adjust the z-height after the first print. I use Lychee too for the same reason.
I haven’t lit this model as it isn’t in the game but if you add a light behind, it does glow through. Eerie!
This looks amazing and it turned out great! My only wish is that Lara had a more suitable expression on her face, but nothing you could do about that.
It’s not that far off the video game expression.
Yo.
Awesome work (i'm jealous of your skills, damn it)
Say, can you do Spawn diorama ?
Thanks! I don’t really know spawn I’m afraid.
She looks awesome! All the tech stuff and 3D printing make my head spin and while I can't do it myself, I do like other people being great at it. Can you do a video on ways to really fixate scenery? I have to move things around quite a bit so brushes etc break and ground cover and flock wear off quite quickly. I've done various experiments with making trees removable which works great except, I can't figure out how to store them. I'd love to hear your tips on making dioramas super sturdy.
Thanks. Super sturdy foliage is hard but soaking in loads of glue and using tough base materials is my best advice. It’s a great idea so I will add it to the video list!
I've been looking forward to this since the 'You should highlight that' and I wasn't disappointed, I thought the Ice Wall looks great regardless of the effort you had to take, it was well worth it.
Could you just confirm please, do you like using clear resin... because it's a bit soft and not hard, ie not rigid and brittle?
anyway, great video, thanks for sharing 5⭐'s
I use clear so I can put clear effects on without worrying about swapping resin - plus I can see failed bits at the bottom of the vat. I add Siraya Tech Tenacious to get a bit of flex and reduce brittleness.
SIMPLY WOW....Kathy.
Lara looks fantastic & the ice wall has so much depth with the blending colors.
Im surprised your application of super glue has held Lara into place, was her filament really light?
Ive used cheap hairspray & sprinkled over Bicarbonate of Soda to re-create snow, as the BoS reacts to the hairspray & works really well, I used that on my Star Wars Hoth dioramas for my AT-ST & AT-AT.
Are those chrome pens any good? & do you need to seal with a clear acrylic once dry?
I have a 1/24 Revell Dodge Charger (Fast & Furious) & I was thinking not to strip the chrome parts (Bumpers/Rims) but when cut off the sprue, you get that horrible black sprue color & my attempts at trying to replicate chrome have failed & I end up stripping the chrome parts in bleach, so maybe those chrome pens could be used to touch up or even paint the whole thing.
The chrome pens are good and I don’t varnish over them. Fur big areas they’re a little blotchy but for small touch ups, they’re really good.
That is beautiful, thanks for sharing your work. As a now retired mountaineer, I can tell you that ice climbing is brilliant fun and cliffs like that one are really hard. However, this piece made me want to climb again, despite my aching bones! 🤪
Thank you. I’m so glad it looks realistic as I haven’t done much I’ve climbing.
Dod you make the uv light chamber?
Yes, there’s a video on it if you’re interested.
Well done ... why not add LED light inside the ice ..
Nice idea and I can shine a light through from the back but that’s not how the game scene is lit
I love how they talk about empowerment and realism and then still use bulky scarf that really don't fit properly under the coat collar and expose most vulnerable part of throat to frostbite to make her more feminine 😃 but diorama still is simply stunning
I thought the same. Not sure it’s about empowerment or just not thinking.
Her position is against the principle of physics. Other than that, nice picture.
She’s in motion hanging off an ice axe so not sure how physics is a problem.
