    I just completed my biggest project yet! A full N Scale train layout set in the Wild Imaginary West. The project took three weeks and cost around $500 to complete. I'm trying to come up with a name for the town and decide its location in the universe.
    I will likely make additions to the layout with new structures, people, mechs, and monsters at some point in the future. I had a lot of fun with this one. Hope you enjoy!

    The Old Hangman's Church used to be on more stable ground, but the rockslide of 46 took out most of the cliff face when the railroad company was building the canyon track. It was, frankly, a miracle that the church stayed aloft.

    I just saw folks talking about 'playing' with trains vs. 'operating'. You, my friend, proved my point. You can indeed built an amazing layout, with creativity and passion without worrying about yard operations, realistic time tables, and all the other nonsense die-hard folks get themselves into. I can bet you do enjoy playing with your creation and got a lot of relaxing hours building it and now sharing it with friends and family. You don't need a million switches, complex wiring, endless collection of rolling stock, dcc, or anything much to truly enjoy the hobby! Congrats on a great build and a well done video! Well, this project has been well over a year in the making, but I think we’ve finally got it down. We’ve managed to construct a central railway through Devil’s Canyon, right next to the first permanent town. It goes towards the gold mine in one of the hills, and will hopefully be profitable. I’m saying that, because we’ve lost many good men and equipment to those treacherous cliffs, so I’m really glad the whole things done.

    While I've always found model trains interesting, I had never actually gotten into them. My grandpa, however, had multiple models that he'd pull out when grandkids came over, as well as one he really enjoyed showing off in a small local museum he volunteered at (somewhat small town in Utah). While he was definitely more of a model plane maker, he definitely showed a big appreciation for model trains.
    This model reminds me somewhat of the model he would show at the museum (which honestly could just be since I haven't seen it in a while and making a connection, but still). While I didn't exactly watch the entire video (I'll watch it most likely tomorrow), it still kind of made me happy to see this.
    He passed away a little over a year ago, so seeing something that reminds me of him is nice.

    Some fun recommendations for improvements to this already amazing project: one, get yourself a 4-4-0 type locomotive, or a 4-6-0 type locomotive. These two wheel arrangements were common sights on western railways, unlike the USRA 0-6-0 that was supplied with the set. Two, repaint the locomotives and passenger cars into your own livery. Making a unique livery and name for your fictional railway can be great fun, and lead to even more creative ideas! I know I've had a lot of fun with creating fictional railways. And three, weather your trains! This one is more of a practical tip, honestly. It's just a bit jarring to see this dusty, realistic desert scenery, and then see a perfectly clean, shiny train race through it. A bit of weathering can really help with the illusion that this is a real place somewhere in the world, and that the train really belongs there. Real steam locomotives, and the cars they pull, are seldom ever as clean as the model is. Oil, rust, smoke, ash, and hot steam all take their toll on the appearance of the locomotives and rolling stock on any railway, and that bit of detail can really make or break a diorama.

    • @dawidMarvel
      @dawidMarvel Před 2 lety +6

      I love the weathering idea. If the train you are proposing is much more western like that might be a good idea to. I have one more idea. This is what Luke Towan use to say. Tiny details make big change. I mean the town looks amazing but also so deserted and sterile. You could add there some signs, posts, horse "holders" etc. It could give it an illusion of life.
      Thanks for the good job. It's been fun to watch it. Cheers

  • @ModelRailwaysAndDioramas

    Wow, what an incredible project! Your N Scale layout set in the Wild Imaginary West is truly inspiring. The detail and creativity you've put into this for just $500 is amazing. Naming the town and deciding its location in the universe sounds like a fun challenge-maybe your viewers could help suggest some ideas? I also enjoy creating and sharing model train projects on my channel and can appreciate the effort and fun that goes into such a unique setup. Can't wait to see what additions you make in the future. Great job!
