- THE SUNDANCE CENTRAL RAILROAD - The Sundance was formed in January 2004 with the goal to create a more detailed and uniformly scened, large-scale traveling layout. This 1:20.3 scale modular model railroad consisting of forty modules for a layout size of 45 feet by 45 feet. The railroad consists of 400 feet of hand laid code 250 aluminum rails that are hand spiked with individual tie plates onto wood ties with a total of 16 turn-outs.
The modular was built by a group of seven model train enthusiasts. This diverse group is made up of people who have a passion of early narrow gauge steam locomotives to modern day standard gauge diesels.
The purpose for forming this modular group was to provide the public a realistic look at model railroading in a large-scale format. The modules are highly detailed from the scratch built supporting structures and buildings down to the surrounding scenery. The trains and rolling stock that will be running on these modules will also be highly detailed and weathered.

The kid climbing the tree to get a eye-full was me as a youngster and thank god its never changed.
If I had an Antman suit, at the end of the day, when I got home from work, I'd just shrink down and live this life til morning, then go back to normal size and head into work. And I'd keep it a secret.
Don't know why this showed up in my feed but it's impressive as hell.
To say that this is "the best and most detailed model railroad layout in the world" is an understatement.
There’s a certain art to a REALLY well done model railway, the best ones even have a little story to tell
This man should receive the Nobel prize for artistry and originality. This is the world's best train display without a doubt. Good job, sir.
I TOTALLY AGREE
In that scale
@@adarshsurendran7648 Just what we need. Ad spam.
a mini train set isnt going to advance the world as we know it but this is a very good model railroad layout
Only problem is.... there is no Nobel Peace Prize for Art. Science, literature and peace, no art.
As a model builder I can attest to the hours, days, and years that such a layout entails. It is truly a work of wonder! The attention to detail is just phenomenal. Stunning .
I've watched this video numerous times just to marvel at the details. I see something new every time. Just a fantastic display, the Picasso of train display.
Forget just a model railroad
THIS IS ART
Resheram boy 88 / the trainer yeah that’s what I said. Art for sure
A true masterpiece!
im lucky enough to live close enough to it to be able to go to when its open, and its something you have to see with your own eyes. The layout is massive. I wish it was open more often
I'm only an amature at model railroading and this blows my current layout out of the water. This is truly amazing.
And the music fits in with this classic peace of art
The ultimate model railroad cocktail made up by: meticulous planning, striving for perfectionism, fanaticism to details, true to an era, artistic execution, love for the labor.
I haven't seen a CZcams video yet with better artistic detail and realism. The whole thing feels like you're in a story
Such details to a completely different degree, this kind of realism is something to truly strive for
Every scene says a hundred stories....even though it’s not even a real town...This is beautiful
Thanks for the Video clip! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you ever tried - Januke Henatalie Formula (probably on Google)? It is a good exclusive product for operating a DCC model railroad minus the headache. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my cousin got great results with it.
Jose F. Torrealba would love to but I can’t afford models trains...I just watch these and wish and wait for THAT one day..😊😊
Big time beautiful. Art

I think I see a few O. Henry stories in there.
It would be something to place a camera on the locomotive and have it run the layout. Someone’s life work on display here, absolutely mind blowing detail and realism. Unbelievable.
Yes! I'd have a big screen on the wall, showing the view. Post a lap, get another 2.2 million views. :)
So nice to see John WAyne in this video, and the smashed window looked brilliant
I've seen a lot of train displays, but I have NEVER!,,,,, NEVER!! Seen one as awesome as this one!
I don’t know how many people this took or how many years, but the variety and attention to detail is outstanding. It’s obvious that so much went into the planning alone. You just can’t through something this fabulous together without a lot of planning and skill. And apparently they have both. My hat is off to you folks on a job that is more than well done. I actually don’t know the right words to describe something this fantastic. And thank y’all for sharing it with the world. It makes us old timers nostalgic when we see something like this. Again, thank you!
7 people. It's in the video description. ;)
I Believe the correct word would be "throw" not through.!! I make mistakes all the time, I love to respond to these things and as an old (79) year old Irish Girl whose Husband retired from the "Union Pacific Railroad" here in Sparks, Nevada. He died last year May10th 2021, and my oh my did he take a lot of knowledge with him, he was a very smart man and helped men on the railroad to pass tests and was just the best railroad man on earth my heart is broken and he was my rock, my air, my bones, and now I have him sitting next to me here by the Computer in his Black Ebony Chest to help me and give me some "Bark" to carry on. I see him in that little train passing by around and around and I can carry on. "Get some Bark Honey" that's what he would say. I am trying and for him I gotta be tough and keep going.

There isn't a blade of grass or a dog's tail that hasn't been carefully thought out. Amazing and hypnotic... with great old-timey music. Obviously a masterpiece of on-going work of art and love. Congratulations all around. !!!
I admire anyone who can make models, wheather as detailed as this one or just a small basic one.
9:40 'ish...My friend and I used to build a raft out of 2 of those 400 gal oval fuel oil tanks. over the course of a couple of years we floated from carpentersville, Il on the fox river down to Henry, Il on the Illinois! My friend is gone better than a 1/4 of a century now ( we were young men then - last trip was '89 ) but seeing that in this layout just brought a tear to my eye. Miss you still, John. Beautiful layout!
I can watch these all day. The music selection matches perfect. No blaring in your face obnoxious techno. Love the long pauses too to really appreciate the fine detail of the scenes. No quick 3 second clip editing. Bravo, well done video all around. Must do MORE of these
Thank you so much!!!
Would have love to hear the licomotive bell or whistle though.🚂
This is art , a time machine , a storybook , and a brain massage . WOW !!!!
Just stunning! the models don't look staged but like they are caught in a snapshot moment in the middle of doing something. It looks like there is a story behind every scene. Amazing job!
This is the most fantastic piece of art I’ve ever seen so far. The maker is absolutely brilliant and patient. Not even Hollywood can make something like this. My admiration for you, thank you heaps.👍🤞❤️😊
I am a retired Southern Pacific Railroad Conductor and this is the best I've ever seen. Well done...
Best Layout I've Ever Seen, Period, Hands Down!
Model Railroad mag in 80s had some outstanding ultra detail layouts. This was very well thought out.
The best railroad-presentations on youtube
No words can convey my admiration for the artistry that went into this amazing creation.
This is such a beautiful throwback to the Old West.
The dog playing with the bull frog, hands down my fav.
I'm not a train guy but this is crazy detail work! This video has set the standard for all lay-outs. So hop aboard the "Crazy Train" tour.....you won't regret it.
Railfan* but yeah , amazing pike.
People have often said that they long for the good ol' days but to honest, I don't think many of us have truly thought about what that entailed. This model railroad set up gives a person somewhat of an idea the struggles, hard work and perseverance of the good ol' days. No retirement, no social security, no way to support yourself except to work till they throw a shovel full of dirt in the ground on you.
Fantastic job on the set up and the video of it. The music just adds to the ambiance of the whole thing. Thank you.
You didn't even mention hospital care being lots more questionable, and maybe unavailable. No ambulance is coming to those locations so you better have a horse and cart or a truck.

This entire layout really is a snapshot of early 20th century small town Americana. You can learn a terrific amount about life in the 1920s Appalachia just by studying the level of detail in this layout!!!! Excellence of execution in the detailing sir!!!!
Some of those trees were too big for the east coast, meinded me more of Pacific Nothwest. Sorthern California, Fort Bragg or Oregon.
There is something though; the time depicted everything would be new.! Think. Now the attention to detail that’s another thing superb artistry.
@@ChipEstrada Well we are talking about forests some 100 years ago now.
The ink was barely dry on Teddy's creation of Fed parks!!
The cabosse says "Fiddletown & Copperopolis" which are two towns in the Gold Country SW of Lake Tahoe. Good observation regarding size of trees.
Three years later I'm watching it again. This is a kind of time capsule going back to a time when I was a kid. Loved it.
It seems that there are still people who are skilled in the use of something other than a tablet or smart phone! What absolutely amazing, talented, skilled artists !!!!! Amazingly accurate & thought-provoking. A simpler time....
To me, one of the most stimulating aspects of layouts of this scale and complexity is the incredible level of imagination utilized to envision all the scenery and its minute detail, and then turn it into 3 dimensional reality! The human mind can be such a wonderfully creative thing! What an amazing treat. Thank you!
Steam coming out of that engine would have made me fall over.....already in awe!!!
AMAZING WORK!
I watch this video often it NEVER gets old. I HAVE been to a lot of shows & THIS layout is BY FAR the BEST I have EVER SEEN👏👏👍👍☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️
Such a variety of skills at such a high level.
Not a model. This is artistry. Every scene is a 3D canvas.
I alwasy come back to watching this fantastic layout. There's so much details, and so realistic! Even the music fits the laziness of the scene!
The dust, the decay, the weeds! Everywhere a story. So real I can smell it. BRILLIANT.
Look at the trees too and the weathering I just think it’s amazing and in one of the scenes there is a. Broken window!!
Yeah, I'm speechless. The aging of everything, the rust, wood, the buildings... looks like 1930's rural America. Just incredible.
I have never paused a video as much as I did this one. It took me a half hour to watch the first five minutes. The best layout I have ever seen.
Omg. This is not one,but the best thing I have ever seen in my life and I'm 52 years old👍👏👏👏👏👏
The little details like the mouse on the log and the dog with the frog really make a layout like this stand out in such a beautiful way.
Thank you very much!

I've never seen a more beautiful layout.
"Thank you all so very much, your creative collaboration wasn't wasted effort by a long shot. You don't just throw something this sweet together overnight. Thank you for doing this so other would be happier when seeing it running. Nice choice of audio inclusion also.
I also don't know the right words to describe the ingenuity, imagination, and skill, as well as attention to history that has gone into this. I look at a lot of railroad nostalgia from rotary plows on Donner and in the Wasatch, to very detailed models on CZcams. I have never seen anything like this one, unbelievable to say the least!
that is NOT a small scale train! once you realize that, the immense size of the layout becomes apparent. plus, so much is within its boundaries and it doesn't look cluttered at all! a true master piece! I'm in awe !
The arc from the guy welding is over the top. Makes you want to get into model railroading.
This is probably the best and most detailed layout I’ve ever seen,it’s like you’re part of a story and the attention to detail is absolutely exquisite,my only wish is that there was more than one train running, very well done to whoever dedicated their lives to putting it together and just being able to imagine that kind of creativity is amazing, thank you so much for sharing it with us and I know I’ll be watching it again 😊
Holy shit. I don't even know what's more mind blowing. The scope. Or the absolutely insane, sublime, incredible detail. I mean I consider myself pretty articulate. Having a big vocabulary is something I pride myself in. But words fail me right now. The only thing that comes to mind is just "Wow." I could watch videos of this for hours. A whole series on something like this.
Outstanding attention to detail. The weathering alone, from the wooden structures, the rusty spare train wheels at the yard, the awnings on the shops, the paint on the houses... I'm blown away.
Yes,that is what impressed me. Everything looks a little old and well used. Nothing is shiny or new looking. The superlatives used is these comments are well said.
@@barbaralcharlestruly a Work of Love.
The grass and the trees are masterful. Really amazing work.
There is no way the cowboy with the red shirt at 4:50 is anyone else but John Wayne, in his 'Rio Bravo' outfit. The detail on this build is incredible. I don't expect to see this level of detail on anything bigger than a couple of square feet, but they carry it off over a whole layout. The ground and weeds growing between and beside the tracks is worth a whole discussion, as are the incredibly detailed human figurines throughout the display. Five stars.
Even a welders flash!!!! Absolutely Incredible!!!
This must have taken so much time I can't even imagine to give it a number!
Hard to believe it's not real... These guys should be working in Hollywood... I'm almost 80 been around model railroading most of my life can't remember anything done quite this well...

What a FANTASTIC place ..and build. I want to live there. Incredible. The colors. The weathering, the people. WOW!!!
All the pain staking labor that went into this layout boggles the finite mind, totally awesome!
Who ever built this is definitely a master of his craft In the model railroad hobbie my hats off to the people or person who built it
what they have created here is an historically accurate biopic of rural Appalachian life in the early to mid 1900's. all of the easements are accurate, (meaning they didn't try and cram as many things on there as possible like so many people do). Its like a moving Thomas Kinkade painting, faithful in every detail. Rural Appalachian communities absolutely centered around these small railways to earn a living and as the only real link to civilization. I have commented several times and I have watched this dozens of times. I have said it before and I will write it here again. This is the most beautiful model railway in the world. Nothing compares to it.Nothing. To the wonderful and talented people who have done this, I remain astonished. I can't wait to see more.
This would be something you could spend hours just looking at all the detail everywhere. Amazing!
The hours that must have gone into this boggle the mind. Hours designing and planning, collecting the materials, modeling, painting, and assembling, just incredible. I laughed when I saw the boys climbing the tree to get a better look at the girls.
Hours hell.
This must be about 30 years worth of work, and then some.
Absolutely AMAZING !! The welders arcs and the burning Pine tree, spectacular detail !! Bravo !!
This is the Norman Rockwell of model railroads! Incredible!
This is the very best model railroad layout ever period. He captured very minuscule detail possible. I love it !! Just amazing to watching this video and seeing all of the very meticulous handwork that went into making this display extraordinary. BRAVO !!!!

All the layouts are beautiful, but this one is special, every time I look at it I am delighted.
Words can’t express the emotion and feeling this gives a person.... The countless hours and the thought process behind this is of a whole new level. I’ve seen a many of CZcams videos of layouts and this is by far my favorite, the music to go along with it was perfect for this era. You have an amazing talent. God bless you.

The detail on this rank with John Allan’s Gorre & Daphet, and George Sellose’s Franklin & Manchester. It is simply stunning I watched this video a dozen times and am still finding new things! This is outstanding!
I can watch this over and over. What incredible work. This belongs in the Smithsonian
It must have taken years to put this together. It's better than a Hollywood movie layout. Thank you.
This is a beautiful model railroad built by some talented people. For those who are not aware the railroad name, Fiddletown and Copperopolis, is the name of a cartoon that ran for a long time in Model Railroader magazine. The cartoon drew a highly caricaturized run down, back woods railroad. In fact this model railroad is itself a very successful caricature of a backwoods shortline railroad. My compliments to the builders.
UNBELIEVABLE! This guy is awesome. I’ve never seen anything even close to the detail of this setup 👏👏👏👏
The level of detail and sheer realism of EVERYTHING is amazing. I'm sure the larger scale is what made all the detailing possible. BRAVO!! Supremely well done!!

I think you captured ever cultural moment for this period in history. The boys up in the tree to get a peak at the dancing girls, classic. The enging pull on the tractor, real moments in time. It's beautiful, priceless.
