Still one of the most realistic British model railway layouts: Knaresborough - The Worlds End

- This British model railway layout is based on the North Yorkshire market town of Knaresborough, its railway station and surrounding area. The modern image 4mm/ft scale model railway layout has been constructed by Pete Goss. The layout has only a simple branch line theme with trains running through the station on a twin track continuous circuit run. Also featured is the large stone built and ornate viaduct over the River Nidd which is around 5 feet long. The layout was set in the time period around 2005 to 2015, so the rolling stock includes the modern day colourfully liveried DMU’s and several long special model trains.
Modelling this miniature world was for Pete an exciting journey into authentic model building construction that produced an array of architecturally interesting buildings taken from High Street and Market Place in the town centre together with parts of Finkle Street, Kirkgate, Waterside, Riverside and Water Bag Bank. The name “Worlds End” refers to the pub that features at the front of this layout. Knaresborough’s railway station and town scene were already the subject of a video by Pilentum Television. However, this version is digitally remastered with authentic rail sounds and Pilentum’s unique musical melodies.

To all the people commenting that this model is missing litter, graffiti, homeless people, etc - this is a model of Knaresborough, it’s a beautiful, well cared for little town which attracts lots of tourists. It doesn’t look like a busy city centre or some run down industrial area and really does look like this. A superb model

Looks more in the country than a city and we don't have graffiti and peeps on the streets. I think who ever made this is truly amazing wow. I'm not into trains, but love the fairy miniture world idea and think this truly beautiful ❤️
It’s a fantastic layout , one of the best I’ve probably seen , one question however, how do you know there are no homeless in knaresborough, and surely as beautiful as town as it is , there must be a bit of litter somewhere

The people of the village gradually became suspicious of their circumstance when a young bloke from one of the local families attempted to go swimming in the river, only to find, to his utter confusion, that all the water was solid resin. To the townspeople's horror, they finally realized the explanation for why the train never really went anywhere and always carried them back to the same place.
Just a bit like the “Truman Show” 😁

If only the real world was just as peaceful, gentle and civilised. Amazing layout of course, a lot of love went into this - but some seriously impressive rolling stock as well!
The streets look nice and clean, its the only give away.

My mind is BLOWN! seriously wonderful! the little light flashing on the last cart..the art shop with all the pictures inside..The sounds of the metal tracks and air brakes! phenominal! I could mess about with this for hours on end. very very well done!
As a resident of Knaresborough I can say that this is awesome and incredibly accurate.

This is absolutely astounding! Incredible level of detail, even the bricked up windows at 4:27, reminiscent of the time of the Windows Tax!

It's the crispness of the model making - so many small scale layouts have poor junctions and joints if you look carefully but this is skilfully done. Stunning.
A lot of the people commenting on the cleanliness of the buildings. This layout was built by someone who has a business related to model buildings. Laser cutting or something like that and this is a show piece demonstrator.
Trains going over the river nidd just before knaresbro station. My childhood memories.in the summer months there are boat rides below the railway bridge and people flock to visit mother shiptons caves on the harrogate side of the river.
I originate not far from here . The town is beautiful and well worth a visit.

We went to Knaresborough, by train and stayed in a pub for three days about 20 years ago, but one glaring difference, our train had passengers and a driver and a guard in it.
Job cuts since 20 years ago.

Its a lovely town, and this model is absolutely stunning with all the details. Some good pubs there.
Amazing level of detail and quality.
I give nine out of ten platform tickets. It would be ten but, for me, not enough grime ! Diesels are dirty, they drop oil and make a mess. Needs grime especially where the engines stop at the platforms.
That said, I salute the patience of whoever made this layout, simply brilliant.
My thoughts exactly. The modelling is fantastic but some weathering and dirt would put it over the top. Same with the rail stock. I’m nit-picking, though. It’s a wonderful layout.

Seen this layout a few times at shows...its utter stunning....layouts like this should be labeled as works of fine art.
Several years ago, after viewing an exquisite model railway layout, perfect in every detail, I commented to the owner/operator that it was a work of art. He got a bit upset and said no, it’s a model railway.

From this I've learnt that what makes a great model scene / diorama - is...
1.) Lots of different gradients / levels rather than large flat areas including large and subtle ones.
2.) A finish that leaves no gaps or questions as to what its trying to show.
3.) Scratch-built elements offer a unique touch.
4.) Small elements that are cohesive, the entire model is a snapshot of a moment in time. For example the Civil War Battle Re-enactment and then the Banner near the Pub advertising it.
5.) Having a God skill level such as the level that Pete Goss shows here!

I would further like to add
6.) remember to add dirt to the scene ,
like a crushed cola can and waste paper on street and garbage that
didnt make it to the bin and such.
I have seen many very realistically cool and nice models but the last detail they lack .
No city and place is without humans garbage and no backyard is nice clean , there is always some who
doesnt care and trash is piling up ...
( some of the areas look ' too clean ' despite the gradients and detail was so great )

That is an incredible piece of work, I applaud the time and effort that must have gone into achieving that level of detail. Now I know what I should have been doing during lockdown rather than watching CZcams.
