Live vocals needs to improve for sure, but the song is a banger if you ask me. The Rasmus is one of Finland's most commercially successful bands. They had a big international hit with "In the Shadows" in 2003, so I think it's cool that a band like this is gonna compete in Eurovision. "Jezebel" was co-written by Desmond Child, a legendary songwriter. He's written rock classics like "Poison" (Alice Cooper), "You Give Love a Bad Name" (Bon Jovi) and "I Was Made for Lovin' You" (KISS).

The vocalist Lauri has been having some serious struggles with his voice for quite a few years now. He's veteran rockstar though who can do quite a lot with the voice he has left, but only relatively, and at this point it very clearly limits his ability to perform. I doubt he could get a single really pure performance out anymore.
Still, even if the band is a bit of blast from the past at this point, they're quite fondly remembered around Europe so they'll likely score plenty of points on name recognition alone.
Oh, the song is produced and co-written by Desmond Childs.

The Rasmus were something of a one-hit wonder, having enormous success with their song "In The Shadows" in 2003. I think almost any European who was aged between 10 and 40 in 2003 would recognise the track because it is very catchy and received so much air time. I loved it. It was high up in most European charts then, but they never charted in the US.
Obviously they've had a 30-year career as a band and released several albums, so that isn't their only good song; but I think only their fans would know the other songs, whereas In The Shadows will be known by lots of people who don't even recognise the name "The Rasmus".

Ï disagree with ''one hit wonder''. ''In the shadows''' is definitely their biggest song, but they heave also couple of minor hits like ''Guilty'', ''Shot'' or ''Sail away''. And then ''No Fear'' which was something between big and minor hit. On the other hand with ''Jezabel'' I hear of them pretty much first time since ''Hide from the sun'' album.

In my humble opinion they won because they are famous, because that definitely was not the best song in their national selection. But, if Finland is proud of them, then good for them. I mean, it's not awful, but they had better options.

I’m so sorry for you.. everyone in Europe knows the Rasmus. They were big since early 2000s, you might know their songs)) like “in the shadows”. It’s like Green Day but rock instead of punk. That’s why audience likes them- they grew up with the Rasmus

The Rasmus were so big here with "In the shadows" when I was little, and I loved Finnish rock and metal as a teen, so I'm as biased as you get; and I still don't like the song. The lyrics sound so crappy to me.

I was so disappointed we Finns voted for the Rasmus to go to Eurovision. Personally, I voted for Bess. The Rasmus' singer, Lauri, was never a brilliant vocalist but nowadays it's just a little sad what's happened to his voice. And also, the style is a little too pop/emo for many Finns. Did you know, Finland has the most metal bands per capita in the world? More than 50 metal bands for every 100,000 citizens.

For me this was a disappointing song. I was so enthusiastic that The Rasmus entered, but this is just meh.
They can do so much better. So I'm hoping for somewhat of a revamp in a positive way.

Lovely song. Weak vocals on the live one.
The chorus is the strongest one in ESC. The bridge solo is great, as well.
Energy from the singer is through-the-roof.
    Lyrics are mediocre

Finland actually has a really varied music scene these days, with lots of popular acts that are more contemporary pop or rap, but if you want to make something that's going to cut across a lot of generations and different subcultures, and win popular votes, a rock song is still the best bet.
It's just our national vibe I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@ristoravela652 I was being a tad facetious because it seems that at least every other Finland entry is from the rock genre. I am sure that is not the only music Fins listen to. Maybe The UK should send a rock song. It couldn't be any worse than anything we've submitted in the last few years. 😕

To be honest, this does nothing for me. His voice is weak, the staging is awkward at best, the lyrics are odd, and while I almost always like the harder ESC songs, this one doesn't hit. Not a fan, I'm afraid.

Mediocre song for me, not a fan of the chorus. And the live vocal was not impressive.
I was rooting for Bess (did not see her live though) but all signs pointed to The Rasmus as the only famous contestant.
Now, I actually love “In The Shadows” but that came out like 20 years ago. This one… is a polite pass for me.
They have a shot at qualifying but they will surely not give Finland a repeat success in the final should they make it there.
