    Revell Pirate Ship 80-5605 or 05605
    Scale: 1/72
    Length 550mm and Height 470mm
    Number of Pieces: 896
    Level of Difficulty: 5
    All I can say about this particular box is that everything fits perfectly. No flash, not even a trace, no need to drill anything, all detail is there, everything about this box was just perfect. This is the pirate ship which I painted black and followed the instructions of the black pearl version. Everything is the same except the figure under the bowsprit. Reason behind this simply to save money since the black pearl sells for over 100 euro while the pirate ship I purchased for 55. All other details are the same. Flags are of the paper kind in both cases. Instructions are very clear and for the rigging I followed the instructions of Revell.
    Some items to watch out:
    Steps 10-11: Make sure you glued the cannons well so you will not lose any after you have put the ship together. One of mine unglued but I managed to get it back.
    Steps 20-21. Gluing them together and then trying to attach them on the ship might cause you a problem. Mine unglued so I had to glued the two halves again while they were set on the ship.
    Step 34: Do not attach the two parts on the ship now. Leave them at the end. 99% at some point you will hit them with your hands or a tool.
    Step 40: BE CAREFUL! Not all the cannons will be inside or outside at the top deck. Four will have to be the opposite of what you choose to have enough of the parts (I4, I5, I6, I11, I12, I13)
    Step 51: Added the string on the cannon hole covers before gluing them on so I only had to tie them to the top part.
    Step 55-60: A bit use of force for the parts to get into place but they did. Maybe a bit of sanding needed.
    Step 74: Make sure you follow the instructions. Do not glue the top part.
    Step 75-79: I did not glue the D parts, as it would have made it difficult to do the rigging on the masts.
    (D1, D2, D3, D4, D5, D6, D7, D8, D9, D10, D11, D12) I added them when I worked on the specific masts and doing the rigging from the sails down. Add all strings to sails before you glue them on.
    Step 88: This is a sail I left behind and added it a bit later. It is up to you. It was easier for me to work the rigging without the particular sail in place. It will cause a bit of a problem setting it up since it hangs and it is not glued to anything.
    In general, I really enjoyed this ship. No problems. I placed some strings differently than suggested simply because I could not either reach, or it was too difficult to tie them where suggested but this was my choice.

      Goodmorning. The reason it says revell pirste ship is because that is the box I used. This is not the black pearl box. (Different figurehead). It is essentially the same kit. Purchased the pirate at a much cheaper price and downloaded the black pearl instructions. So wanted to be accurate. 😉

    If you're thinking of building the model then be aware putting the guns together is a nightmare and regardless of the instructions fit them to the decks before assembling the ship!! My model is coming along but the instructions are to paint the hull after assembly, l think this is wrong!! Unfortunately my looks as if the guns won't be displayed at all. But Theodoros example is exceptional, fabulous, well done. :)

    • @theodorostzitzimbourounis
      @theodorostzitzimbourounis  Před 5 lety +1

      Good morning, thank you for the kind words. Basically the main paint is revell anthracite grey 9. Did not mix it with anything. I paint it a couple of hands. Now in my limited experience when painting large pieces that ara not just flat like the sails but have grooves and so on the paint sticks well. In the case of the sails though I knew I will be in trouble if i did that so I applied first Vallejo black primer. After 24 hours I applied the paint one hand and it came out pretty smooth I think. So everything was hand painted no spray guns.

    How did you get the rigging to stay so straight? Did you use beeswax or anything? It looks great!

    • @theodorostzitzimbourounis
      @theodorostzitzimbourounis  Před 3 lety +1

      No i did not use beeswax. Used on previous ship. You use it so the thread does not get that furry look. What i do is that i do not tie a final knot or use glue until the end or until the point i realize i will not be able to reach it. The reason is that you work on a mast at a time and by adding sail after sail the mast might move even the slightest from the weight. Especially on this ship the sails are heavy. In addition you have horizontal lines going from mast to mast so again you might pull to tight. Finally the weight of the hanging sails. It is better then to tie the knot but leave extra line so when almost everything is in place you can finalize then the knot and use glue.
