well what i did for the deck and the whole ship was i put a grey and brown wash on it. First you paint it black, then you take a bit of grey paint and add some water, then you paint the deck with that, and after you'll go over it with a paper towel. And if you do the same with brown, it'll give that old look. this is my first model kit i've build, and the effect of the wash looks really good.

It takes a lot of patience and time. Its difficult but after awhile you get the hang of it
