I have the EXACT same American Standard pop up drain and just followed your instructions on how to clean the drain and stopper which fixed the leak. THANKS!!!
As simple as a fix as this video is, it actually helped me. I just installed the new drain, and it's easy to miss the small parts like leftover putty around the edge. Thank you!
I've only had this tub and drain for 2 months and it just started leaking. Fixed in in 5 minutes with your video. The screw needed to be lengthened just like you showed and worked perfectly.
Thanks. I think my washers have hardened after 20 years. Home Depot had the whole popup stopper for $2.50, so i ordered it online with free shipping. Should get it tomorrow. You could just get the washer but they cost more than the entire stopper.
Correction, they cost $3. I ordered the 3/8 inch bottom piece and it fit. You have to be careful because that bottom piece can be 5/16. Very close to the same size. Make sure you get the right size. It's the Little piece that screws in at the bottom.
This is the stopper that I have, but someone took it apart and can't put the pieces back together. I don't want to buy a whole new assembly for over $100. Any suggestions? If I could see an exploded view I could probably put the pieces back together, nothing is broken, just not together.
This helped me figure out why my pop-up drain stopper wasn't holding water. Unfortunately, I did have to replace it, but now, I know how to so it's no big deal. Thanks a bunch for the video!
Just purchased a home that had an American standard tub that would not stop draining. Using your video I was able to remove the drain stopper and compare the rubber seal to yours and found it was reversed. Thank you!
The screw is not part of the top piece. But it usually turns with the top piece allowing you to make the adjustment that you did. If turning the top piece does not adjust the screw, then unscrew the top piece from the middle piece and use a screw driver to adjust the screw from the inside. Then put the top piece back on. You can also remove the top piece from the middle piece to replace the rubber washer when it goes bad.
So, can anyone give me a hint on how to get the stopper cap off? I have tried counter clockwise and clockwise but it won’t unscrew. Thinking about trying to use pliers but worry I may damage the cylinder.
@@getitdonehomerepair it’s a pop up. I finally got it. None of the videos I watched said to put it in closed position before unscrewing. I finally accidentally tried it and voila…it came off. This old 75+ year old granny got it cleaned out. Thank you for reaching out!
I’m watching this as I’m in the tub I tried to have a good bath before I go to a funeral tommorow and The water always drains leaving me with no hot water smh lol 😊

Depends on your particular stopper. Worked for me. I don't have the spot for a screwdriver like so many other videos.
Thank you!!!
I have the exact stopper and it was the exact issue you showed here. Thanks for saving me from buying a new stopper! I appreciate you!
Glad I could help!
What about a pop up drain that won't drain without removing the pop up? Are my threads too far down? It didn't seem to pop anymore either.
Thank you so much!

Is the drain a pop up drain or controlled with a lever

Any time.Thanks for watching.
What if it still has a slow persistent leak
You will need to remove the trap below and clean it out. I will be posting a video soon on that problem.
Great video. Thanks!

I replaced broken pop up, new one leaked...thank you!
Great. I'm happy to help. Don't forget to subscribe.
What if it's down and looks closed...but water is still slowly leaking out
It's that short screw. Turn the bottom clockwise and watch it grow.
