    I do not know anything about plumbing, so I didn’t know how to fix a bathroom 💦 leak. couldn’t ask my husband because I don’t have one😂😂. But I’m a big fan of diy, if I can do it I will before I call on a professional. This video from that fix it guy and the communication and a few pics and videos I shared with him, I have no more leak issues. It’s just the littlest things that makes one happy. 😂👍 He is awesome

      I don't know much about sinks, the leak was from a big rubber washer underneath the sink. Just removed the plug bar thing and gave it a full 360 degree tightening. It's fixed in under 5 minutes.
      Whilst I was down there I took off the a long bowl thing from the trap. It stinks but it's empty? Just full of water, not messing about with anything else. Let them live with the smell.

    I'm going to have to try this out next time I put one in. I've done dozens using plumbers putty and generally they've worked out well however I've run into a few sinks where the bottom of the drain hole wasn't as flat as it should be and have had them leak around the threaded area. I never considered putting Teflon tape on the threads or substituting silicone caulk in place of plumbers putty but I can see some real advantages to doing both. Thanks for the heads up

    There is absolutely no reason to put Teflon tape or pipe dope on the top threaded fitting. Even the silicone around the drain cover does nothing to keep the sink from leaking. If the connection were to leak like a sieve at either place, where would the water go? It would simply go into the drain through the weep holes.
    And with the bottom nut, you need to make sure you get the silicone into the threads between the rubber gasket and the drain stem. Just getting it on the rubber gasket where it contacts the sink will not keep it from leaking. Thanks for taking the time to post this.

    You're only channel that mentioned putting silicone on the metal rim and the rubber gasket. Glad you used Silicone and not Plumber's putty which I've heard interacts with the plastic.
    I figured this out myself because it was leaking from under the sink. Don't know why no one else mentioned this because it will leak from underside the sink no matter how tight you turn the screw.
    But it still leaks from the rod connection. Not sure how to fix this yet...

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  Před 2 lety

      Are you missing a the gasket from the rod connector area.

      @@ThatFixItGuy I bought a new facet and the pivot rod didn’t have any washers so I bought a new pivot rod with some washers. One was plastic and one was rubber.
      I placed the rubber between the short rod and drain outlet.

    Thanks for the video. The issue that I have is that after tightening the rod, I have a leakage. I don't know if it is because of the size of the new ball that came with the rod or I need more plumber putty when tightening the rod.

  • @StephanieCees

    Hi there. Thanks for the video. My Kholer plastic pop up doesn't have threads the entire section below the plug - it's smooth plastic where the overflow drain holes are. Also, the rubber flange thing at the bottom needs to sit ABOVE the nut threads to sit tight to the sink. In that case would silicone alone be enough on bottom side of the rubber gasket (upper side of sink under plug) and the top side of the under sink rubber flange (above the nut)? If that makes sense. Thanks!

  • @4um360

    What happens if you need to remove or replace the siliconed parts?

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  Před 4 lety +4

      Thank you for the question. Just pop it out. Silicone will come out. Using the pop Up assemble I did in this video if I had to remove it I would just undo the nut that holds it on and push it up. It will take some force, but will not be bad. The silicone around the rubber washer should peel off pretty easy. May take a razor blade or a flat screw driver around the bottom and top of the sink hole. Something with a flat edge that will not damage your sink. Replace the part put more silicone on and reinstall.
      This will make a good video and I will add it to my list! Thank you.

    Thx fix it guy. Great video. I have one ? for you please I have the exact same sink in my bathroom but when I removed the old tailpipe drain there was some rubber hose and a round disc for the overflow drain attached to the tailpipe which I have never encountered before. Looks like you didn’t have this on your sink. Must I replace this disc type overflow drain or can I plug the overflow hole in the sink basin? Thanks. Hope this makes sense.

      Thank you for the Question. If you like Email me a couple pictures at ufix247@gmail.com.
      I don’t see an issue with plugging the hole. An overflow is not required by code. Just make sure it is watertight.

    Excellent camera work and lighting. One question; is there supposed to be a small gasket between the ball and nut? Yesterday I bought the popup kit and it came with a gasket and it is leaking.
