Thank you saved me a fortune in money I’m a 71 year old grandmother and was able to put replace a new sink sink drain and use this seal my self for less than £10
Brilliant
I've been DIYing for 40 years and done a fair number of basins. I've never heard of the three part waste seal before. I've always used Plumber's Mait which has always worked after some cussing. Today was different. Nothing I had previously done worked. Worse I had three wastes to do around the house (failed pop-up wastes). I picked the kits up locally and you're right, they worked first time. You've saved me hours of frustration and cussing. My sincere thanks!
Glad I was able to help 😃
Difference between a diyer and a tradesman . Knowing the names and what parts exist . I'm an electrician FYI I didn't know about this either so I'm not trying to have a dig at you lol
@@TheDIYGuy1I clicked on the Amazon and the page doesn't exist 😢. Please can you help?
They are on eBay
Dear DIY Guy, our bathroom sink waste pipe started leaking this morning. My partner has been trying to solve the leak all afternoon. I found your video and showed it to him. Initially, he was in denial and said it wouldn't work (lol) despite all the positive comments below. After hours of struggling...and more struggling...he finally asked to see the video again. I rang Screwfix to check that the local store where we live had the part in stock. I also asked my partner to buy Plumber's Mait (just in case) because there were a number of people below that said your solution didn't work for them. Finally at 6.30pm....it worked! No more leaking waste pipe! And no need for the Plumbers Mait! THANK YOU so very much for your video. You're a star
Struggled desperately yesterday with a new waste and accompanying washer parts, plumbers mait and PTFE tape. The waste would not sit central, kept spinning with no proper seal and what a mess. Grabbed the simple kit you recommended from a local plumbers and the job was done in 15 minutes! It doesn't have to specifically be a 'Thomas Dudley Ltd' Waste Seal Kit - just ask for a 3 piece Waste Seal Kit which cost me £3.49p. This time no unnecessary Plumbers Mait, PTFE nor silicone sealant and I managed a perfectly clean job, where the waste will be easy to remove to replace in the future if needed. Thank you so, so much for such a useful video! 😃👌👍
Your welcome
Not aware if this kit until yesterday when I saw on your excelent video, bought this morning from nearby counter that Fixes Screws at GBP2.19, worth every penny. Fitted a few hours ago, brilliant.
How much hassel this kit has saved.
No o-ring or washer between the waste and the basin just loads of gone off putty. Used plastic washer that was originally between the nut and the basin.
Did use a smear of silicone gease on the thread, the Back Rubber Seal cone, on both sides of the washer between the waste & the basin and in the face of the nut, could not help myself, it's what i always do.
Thank you for your video.
To help others plumbing is Imperial, Central Heating can be metric.
The 1-1/4 inch is the i/d - bore - not the o/d - outside diameter.
Great tutorial, very clear and precise. I’d never heard of the part before and after taking the u-bend off a couple of times and tightening etc, I thought I’m going to have to use silicone.
Saw this video and couldn’t believe the part cost me £2.50 and worked a treat! Brilliant, thank you so much 👍
Brilliant. Couldn't stop the drips on a new sink. This worked. Cheap. simple and it works.
Absolutely. Thanks
Really useful product,no silicone needed.
Thank you
SIMPLY INGENIOUS! BRILLIANT VIDEO! THANK YOU for taking the time to create and post this. Tried all previous methods mentioned, silicone, (swearing, mopping up) silicone & PTFE (more swearing / mopping up). T. Dudley seal £2.69, NO LEAKS! NOT ONE DROP!
Used one of these tonight. Great solution, used a bit of isoprop alcohol (brake cleaner) to easy the cone seal over the threads. Many thanks for the tutorial.
Best video I've seen on CZcams. I owe you and so do Thomas Dudley, they should get you to do an installation video for their great product.
Just finished installing a floating sink in my bathroom and it was leaking exactly as you mentioned. I thought it was my fault or a bad bottle trap 😬but then I saw this video and it solved the problem perfectly. THANK YOU for sharing this and helping to fix this for us all 🤗
I just used this and wow! After a weekend of stress, this little beauty did the trick! Love your content keep up the great work!🎉
Great to hear!
I had a leak on my basin I tried everything to cure the problem nothing worked until I came across this Dudley washer kit I fitted it in under 5 minutes no more leaks brilliant thanks for the fitting instructions
Cheers for this, confirmed to me exactly what I needed.
That's great 👍
What a find man. Been fitting basins for years, most with no problems but occasionally this particular problem which lots of cussing and sealant usually solves. This piece of kit is a game changer. Used in a problem waste today and bingo. Problem solved. Will have these in my van from now on and will fit as standard on all basins. No point doing otherwise.
👍👍
awesome exactly what i was looking for thank you!
Thanks for this video saved me alot of hassles.
Glad it helped you!
Thanks for your help. Sink fixed now
I knew you could help me here...thank you...these wastes are a right pain...you would think they could improve the damn things...anyway, got one these seals on order...many thanks again.
Brilliant! Job took me ten minutes. Thank you.
Glad it helped!
Hello - I've got a glass bowl basin - will the magic sealer kit be suitable for that? Also, what's the best kind of washer to use between the flange at the top end of the waste and the sink? Or should I use Plumber's Mait/Silicone?
Баш си га фино показао. Једноставно и брзо. Можда мање приче, не знају сви тај твој језик.
Хвала
Great video thanks !!
Worked a treat thank you.
Very welcome, cheers
Really glad that I found this. Whoever installed my sink in the first place used a lot of Plumbers Mait between the sink and the bottom nut. Over the years, both the plastic nut and the seal have deteriorated - what a mess! Thanks for posting this - very helpful and well presented.
Thanks,glad it was a help
Same for me, the seal will not fit right up and into the hole. Got a slight leak on it so will have to take apart and try again. It seems that the black seal is just a bit too hard and could do with being a bit softer so that it is more pliable and can be manipulated into the hole and around the waste thread. Disappointed 🙁
Plumbers mate was previously recommended, this kit will make the job much easier.
Thanks for this 👍
This video helped me alot, me and my husband bought a new sink and toilet from b and q, I'll say no more 🙄had nothing but problems with it and this was my final issue with the sink, kept leaking and I was starting to give up, came across this video bought one, came today, fitted it, no more leaks ☺️thank god for ur video
Glad it helped you out 😁
Thanks for this, on my way to buy one as I need it today 👍🏻
Thanks, you just saved my bacon. End of the day, filled up my newly installed basin, all good, taps working fine, no leaks in pipework. Opened the pop-up waste and water was running round the threads, so grabbed a bucket. Tightened up the pop-up waste nut, but that only made things worse. Removed the waste, and on closer inspection, it is clearly a rubbish design (designed to leak). Admittedly, PTFE tape may (probably would) have solved this, but I can't help thinking the pop-up waste should include the conical seal by default. Ordered one and collecting it first thing in the morning. I hope this donation buys you a pint. Great channel. Keep up the good work.
Glad to have helped you Mick nd thank you very much for the donation 🙂. All the best!
@@TheDIYGuy1 Sadly, this gadget didn't work for me. I nipped up the nut gently, but there weren't enough threads left to connect the waste pipe. I tightened it to reveal just enough threads, and fitted the waste pipe. I still had a leak around the threads. Chucked the conical gadget in the bin, and used PTFE tape. All sorted now.
Anyway, the donation still stands :-) It was a good idea, and a great channel.
I think the conical seal would be better if it wasn't so deep, and was threaded (mine wasn't). That way, nipping up the nut would compress the threads and make a seal.
Brilliant thanks, have subscribed 👍
What a great little piece of kit! Solved the problem. Was close to calling someone out to sort it, but went out and bought this seal for £2.40
Thanks for this video👍🙂

Please can you tell me whether I can use this kit for a kitchen sink? Not sure about size.
Brilliant video thanks

Can this be used on the plastic centre pin basin wastes too?
Thank you really helpful video
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you very much after one week my problem sort out very helpful
Glad it helped
Hi
My threaded waste /plug unit measures 41mm (just over 1 1/2 inches) in diameter but the seal kit states 1 1/4 inch why and and what is the point of the imperial measurement and more importantly will fit my unit?
Hi dose this work for baths thanks
Excellent video again. Just out of interest can this be used with the bath waste too? Or is there an equivalent product? Cheers 👍🏽
You don’t need one on a bath waste because the overflow pipe enters below the grating. It’s really only wash hand basins I suppose someone should have by now engineered a wash hand basin is designed like a bath or kitchen sink it would be easier to construct as well with no well.
Using a "Basin Mate" like this is the only way I do basin drains now. 👍
Do they make this kit for 1 and 1/2 inch waste?
Nice one… I’d forgotten about the magic seal 👍🏻
👍
Thanks bro
Glad it helped you!
Looks great but ,is there anything available for a bottle trap roca sink water, 41mm, as this won't work if your waist is bigger than 35mm thanks.
Can the back nut you tightened up last be purchased separately or would I need to buy a whole new waste
I saw your very useful video.
CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME THE EXACT NAME OF THE PLIER TOOL USED FOR TIGHTEN UP THE BACK LOCK NUT OF THE BASIN WASTE. FURTHERMORE, THE MANUFACTURER AND BRAND. WHERE CAN I PURCHASE IT FROM.
A magic sealing kit was used in your video.
Thank you.
magic thank you
Your welcome
Dudley diagram shows foam washer replaces existing washer under waste in sink, however in my mind the main seal between cone and thread is the most important as water can come down overflow and the rubber cone seals the whole arrangement. Simple but efficient 😀
Agreed in the Dudley diagram the white foam washer sits on top, but I also replaced the slotted waste at the same time using a 32mm flowmasta kit which has a new clear washer, so kept the foam one underneath as a spare.
Thanks to you it solved my problem thank you SIR
@TheDIYguy1 would this work for a bath waste also??
is there a bath version of something like this at all? baths ALWAYS leak from the wastes
This is the right answer 👍, thanks. Left me a problem that not enough of the waste was left to get the trap attached to. Ended up cutting the thick end of this seal off and using it like that, seems to have worked.
Just fitted one of these and like the video no plumbing putty or silicone needed. Decided to fit new waste unit and trap while I was at it. New basin waste unit £13.99, seal kit £2.99, new trap £8.90 from screwfix so £20 the lot. Hardest part of the job was removing all the old silicon down to the basin ceramic and the boss underneath . When fitting the new waste unit ensure the slot (if slotted) aligns with the basin overflow hole. I found it difficult to get the rubber unit to the top of the thread and into the sink boss orifice as I have arthritic hands but managed it eventually. Impotant to get the rubber seal fully home with no play and the slotted unit down on its seal in the basin. As I had bought a new slotted waste unit I used the washer supplied with it between the waste flange and basin so fitted it all as shown in the video. No leaks, also fill the sink above the overflow hole to ensure the slotted waste is aligned and the overflow water drains. Thanks DIY man for the video much appreciated.
Your welcome 👍
Help!!! Still dripping despite using this. I'm using the preexisting metal nut should I be using a plastic one? Or is it a case of just tightening it more? Or do I need to leave the silicone to dry more before running tap?
All help appreciated
I'm looking for a new pop up waste for a vanity unit. Most negative reviews relate to them leaking around the underside thread. Would it be sensible to attach one of these kits at the same time as fitting the new waste, rather spend months or years keeping my fingers crossed!?
Thanks
Welcome
My sink does not go down to the threads on the basin waste, there is a gap, havent seen this nefore, any tips, as i had to force the coned rubber over the smooth part of the down spout, and crank the shi oit of it, only for it to leak still. New sink, all new pipes and faucet kit
I’m just to install a new sink and the waste seal look a bit flimsy and a leak in the making. I’ll certainly be getting one of these. Great video, many thanks
Your welcome
Where do I find the link please or what is this called. Thanks
Also, is there a tool that is double pronged to put through the waste, to prevent the waste spinning so that the overflow holes stay aligned? I've done a couple by sticking a screwdriver through one hole, but I find I don't get the secure grip I would like with that method. Cheers.
two screwdrivers. not joking
Is this KIT only available in one size ? The thread diameter at my place is 38mm
Hi how do you stop the waste from turning when trying to tighten the plastic nut please? 😊
Is there a version of this that works with a kitchen sink waste? Thanks.
Good helpful video. On a side note, the felxi waste pipe you have there, how does that replace the need to have a trap? Surely there is nothing preventing smells coming back up through the plug hole??
The flexi waste is a waterless trap 👍. It has a valve inside it
I used ptfe tape and pushed plumbers main into the hole before putting the nut and washer then tightened it. It hasn’t leaked since.
What about a basin waste with lever, it's slightly different as the nut thread doesn't go as high up due to the rod mechanism.
Can you do a video of how to replace one of these please?
Thanks.
Main issue I've found with this kit recently is that a lot of basins seem to have smaller openings so the black rubber seal doesn't actually fit up inside it. Regardless of how much you try and push it up and tighten it's 50/50 if it will leak or not.
Can ya get these for a bath
Top man!! Thank you for this.
You sound like you’re from my neck of the woods. Are you a Norwich boy?
Your welcome. Yep I am, well spotted 👍
The plug wasn't long enough to screw the black nut on but luckily I had spare washers off another plug and tightened it up using the trap itself.
I have one of these kits and it’s not wide enough to go over the metal thread part. Any suggestions please?
Where can u buy this part
This saved me hours of mess and faffing nice one! £1.20 and it's sorted. Why dont they include these with the bloody waste kits??
Great, glad it helped! Because they would rather the consumer pay the £1.20 than add cost unfortunately.
You put the foam washer between the black rubber 'bung' and the nylon seating... It's supposed to go inside the basin between the waste unit and the basin. Though I think most people chuck them and use a bead of sanitary silicone.
Great if you don't have a basin with an overflow. If you have, the length of remaining thread is too short to fit the trap
These are fantastic for sink wastes, a must have. Unfortunately, they don't do a similar thing for bath wastes. I've got a persistently leaking bath waste despite replacing with a new trap. So irritating.
👍
Wish they did these for 40mm (1 1/2") sink wastes!
Legend - just spent hours on this
Welcome 👍
