I'm amazed at how much she resembles her great uncle. Goering was the only Nazi that I was some what conflicted about. I really believe that he didn't want war simply because it threatened his opulent life style. I have a biography of him written a a British guy who actually knew him personally. His name is Leonard Mosley and the biography came outbin 1974 when Hermans wife and step son and daughter of course were still alive. He paints a picture of Goering as very reluctant to go to war and especially with russia. His step son said that herman thought the war was lost from right before the fall of stalingrad. Its a very good read.
faintly ridiculous how you cannot move on and realize you've got nothing to do with your great grand uncle three times removed and make a whole drama out of it. She is carrying a load that is not hers to carry because she had no part in the whole disaster
I don't think that she is trying to humanize his criminal actions. She is very opposed to his nationalist and anti-Semitic positions. It is good to know that war criminals and serial k*llers can be charming. There are families of serial k*llers who would have never thought that their family member could be a cruel k*ller.

I always thought that when it came to WW2, I'm glad to have been descended from Allied parentage. I don't think I'd be strong enough for the opposite.
