Fascinating, I was holding my breath as they collected the pottery. Would like to follow this story.

Great presentation. However I do disagree with the statement, that it was unusual for ships to sink, around that time period. Just look at the number of Spanish galleons that sunk, in that century. Especially, in & around the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean, & Great Britain.
They should rename the newtsuit, Robbie the Robot. A lot of similarities.

In deed a tragedy. He died in the belief that he might uncover the Lune for others to understand, even if remotely. Certainly a man of unquenchable curiosity, he was missed into the thinking that carbon fiber was such a magic material when in fact it is a brittle egg shell not worth the time invested to create it in the first place. I grieve his loss as a Tru scientist and family man. He died because of too much hype concerning the efficacy of carbon fiber. It doesn't even work in bicycle forks which refuse to hold a line of decent on a hill. You might have better luck using asbestos! It's so sad what lies and hype will do. Crass overcomercialization of frilly materials. No structural integrity. God rest you Mr. Nargeolet! And family.😢

You are aware that Boeing as well as Airbus are using carbon fibre to manufacture aircraft aren't you?

A straightforward misunderstanding of materials science, carbon fibre is an excellent material in appropriate applications, the submersible which imploded was a misuse of the material!

Yes carbon fiber is fine for some things. But I read it was absurd to use it in the submarine cause it isn’t as strong as metal or doesn’t deform but simply breaks.
Also I think airplanes could be using more metal and not carbon fiber if they changed their energy. If they truly build a bigger plane that’s nuclear powered like a submarine you’d have tons of energy to literally have a more eco friendly plane that could maybe be a flying cruise ship type thing if it really could fly for days at a time. It’d be a heck of an experience people would pay for if done right and if it had rooms like a cruise.

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plains?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"

Was the ship not allowed to dock because the "Sun King" didn't want to be embarrassed by the loss during the original battle? Instead allowing all those people to die on an obviously sinking ship?

they need to pump all the money into better sonar surface and under surface scanners, underwater vacuums and drones with really long battery life...infinite if possible and that would be game changers...no need for scuba gear and trying to bring humans down there...just get better unmanned stuff...better communications and video uplinks...bring the costs down of all this stuff somehow from their sources of manufacturing and logistical transportation costs...mass produce it and swarm sites...
this will change the surveying perspective...eventually maybe in decades we can create better capture devices to bring this wrecks up in whole and intact into underwater museums just below the surfaces to keep them from oxygen decay...where tourists can see it and create jobs and profit for smaller nations to uplift standard of living for them...
this whole cycle of life...where death brings more life to us today...their sacrifices not in vein...and what they thought was a lost cause has become a beacon of happiness and wonder for our world today...
to fund scuba diving gear and machines to bring humans down i think is a waste of time and money...a lot of it...not saying dont keep r&d going but only do it as prototypes and blueprints and keep evolving while dumping the majority into unmanned stuff...even spend money on new elements to withstand pressure
youll get more out of this route than doing this scuba stuff...by now that money and effort could have gone into a new drone that could do way more for way longer...

Ships the size of the Mary Rose and Peter Pomegranet were built without plans or designs? Just “bring up that Oak piece there Mr. Smee and tack it on wherever you see a good spot!”? Doesn’t sound like a ship!
