"I would like to here again state that 106 is not, as is commonly believed, a basic predator, on par with an advanced shark. SCP-106 is a sentient being, albeit a totally alien one. SCP-106 appears to be aware of several things beyond the scope of pure instinct and genetic memory. SCP-106 consistently breaches at moments where recovery and containment are most difficult. A fox may see his way out of a trap, but only a man will wait for his captors to look away to escape."

Imagine being so socially awkward you get classified as an scp

I believe that Lawrence was an anomaly like the goo, but much less.
And because of his already familiarity to the goo, and his immunity to it, the goo took hold of him as it’s ‘Host’
Amplifying both their ability’s.
Lawrence's anomaly was being a real creep.
Venom..sorta
What happened to site 19 has anomalies being changed/enhanced when exposed to the remains of other anomalies, so we know that’s possible. I think Lawrence was already an anomaly and the goo he ran into was the remains of an another anomaly (killed by a proto-GOC outfit or something? Maybe an anomalous weapon?) and it warped him into 109. Once again cross anomaly contagion ends up biting the Foundation in the ass.
@@Fullchristainname big man this was 3 years ago i don't remember at all what we was talking abt

And thus 106 was born, searching day and night for more young people to bring to his halls
I think scp 106 just took his form rather than him being the old man. There were already corroded soilder in the hall.
I actually just think that Lawrence used to be just a completely insane man, who had lied his way into the army. I think he killed a British soldier, or at least found the body of one, took his kit, and joined the reinforcements to the trench. But I do think that the hole changed him, and turned him into a scp
I actually like the idea that both are real encounters, that maybe somehow the insnae soldier fused with the Dr when he went into the hole which led to the red reality which explains his old and decayed form despite having been young when it had happened.

The reason I don't like Scranton becoming 106, though yes it is a creative idea and it is used awesomely in the S.C.P. log about that ship anomaly, is that the difference in personality is simply too great.
Robert Scranton is a tragic, sympathetic character, who even at his most delusional and deranged longs for human contact, a way out and to hold his wife again. He was driven to escape his fate and tried everything he could despite going half-mad from isolation by the time he loses the recorder. He was truly tragic because it wasn't even cruel vengeance or betrayal that ended him, which would've at least given his death a reason, he was sentenced to an unknown length of torturous time simply due to having bad luck that day.
106 meanwhile is a psychopath who delights in the amount of suffering it can cause. It is specifically stated that the reason it kills people and kidnaps them into its own pocket dimension is that it enjoys causing fear, pain and suffering in its victims before ultimately killing them. 106 is so terrifying not purely because it can walk through walls but because it is intelligent, it knows how to cause pain and it has a unique will to cause nothing but pain to others. People don't simply become this sadistic and cruel by going cRaAaAaAaAaZy!
Scranton turning into the goopy motherf@cker could work if we look at their physical properties, kinda, being that Scranton becomes fragmented by the end of his story. However, their characters are close to being polar opposites and I cannot conceive the tragic, down on his luck loving husband becoming the sadistic creep that goes bump in the night just to scare people and have fun with them.
I much prefer Corporal Laurence's story, if for nothing else then the idea that one day a pink haired mentally damaged researcher could stumble onto 106 mid-escape and exclaim with a happy/scared screech: "Oh hey, Radical Larry! How are you to day?!"
Fully agree
When it comes right down to it, SCP-106 is nothing more than a serial killer with supernatural powers. He would fit right in with Carnage
How dare the pink haired mentally damaged researcher assume 106 is radical!?
Ironically, that's the reason I like the Scranton theory. The idea of someone intelligent, daring and stable being trapped in nothingness for a seemingly indefinite amount of time, nothing but a box and a red light to accompany him as he physically and mentally regresses. His brain warping his sense of reality, hallucinating and dreaming to fill in the blanks, morality slips away until you're left with nothing but seemingly everything the mind can think up at the same time. Might not be so bad if there was another sentient voice to accompany you. But all there is, is just vacuum. Just weeks of this would torment a sound individual in to a weeping and shivering mess, now imagine years, you'd be not right in the head too hahaha.
With all this said,, the CPL: Lawrence story is just as good. I'm a sucker for paranormal WW1 stories. And the more I dive into Lawrence's story, the more I speculate, the more I want to know. I feel the Scranton theory fits too well and leaves little to imagine. Lawrence as you've pointed out better than I could, has many layers you can pull apart and have fun with. What the hell happened to the Germans? What happened in the well? Was he actually normal and just a little bit of a spaz before his mission or was he always this sadistic and terrifying? XD
@@CrackDCat I can understand liking the Scranton theory, but to me it's far too simple and direct, not to mention states something unbelievable. "Scranton became this sadistic maniac because...dunno, he just went crazy I guess." That's what it sounds like to me. It goes against Scranton's known character completely without providing a good enough reason for it. Similarly to what they did to Luke in The Last Jedi, it changes a known character completely but provides no explanation sufficient enough to justify it.
The Lawrence story as you said has many questions that you can somewhat infer, but the bottom line is you know all along what will happen, that Lawrence will turn into a terrifying monstrosity. Yet you can still theorise about many ideas, my personal favourite being what you mentioned, the ultimate origin of what Lawrence became. Whether he was weird to begin with or if the hole gave him his powers and murderous tendencies.
He's just finding the thief who stole his walking stick

I am of the idea that some individuals are born with SCP capabilities and can go all their lives without manifesting their power and an external trigger is needed for them to become SCP, in this case Lawrence had some sort of SCP qualities although minor, the rotting smells, people getting trench foot around him, but his Old Man powers didn't manifest until he came in contact with the black goo, what it was? who knows, a physical manifestation of the horrors of WWI, a chance meeting with some other SCP.
One thing that makes me very curious is how did they contain this bad boy? It feels like a lot of trial and error was part of the process.

Speaking of 106's containment, I would recommend checking this tale, which also contains one of those black and white illustrations on 106: www.scp-wiki.net/in-his-own-image-part-5

I honestly like the first tale better. It kinda implies Lawrence was "looking" for that hole. That he was incomplete until he found it. Even if he didn't know it until then.
Ah another lovely day in the sc-

Loved the photo of the 1000-yard stare guy fading into SCP-106. Really solidified that story as a backstory in my mind. So creepy!! Well done!

My theory on this is based off of scp 106's back story and it's pretty straight forward... SCP 106 is actually the weird pocket dimension and the old man should actually be designated scp 106-1, also refered to as the resident. The dimension needs to convert a subject and use it as an extension of itself to hunt and feed... I've got no clue what the origin of the pocket dimension could be... Maybe it just manifested from all of the chaos, death, and decay caused by the war... Anybody wanna add to this?
Tbh this is the next most likely scenario after something merging with Lawrence to become 06
@@DracoSafarius thanks dude. 👍👍✌✌
He can easily modify the pocket dimension easily. He made it and it is 106-1 not 106
@@EpicLokvanji I could see it going that way too.
@@EpicLokvanji Well yeah that's the current look of it, but this theory is a fun one, and food for thought at the least.
13:12 are we not going to acknowledge the fact that the artwork and the photo perfectly align???
I like the ww1 backstory way better, cause it makes sense for his character. SCP-106 is one of the most disgusting horrifying SCPs in existence, so I think him coming from one of the most terrifying and disgusting places in all of history, ww1 and it's trenches, works REALLY well.
I like how the SCP universe is kind of like the lovecraftian universe in that nothing is canon everything is included. Keeps the whole thing the state of undefinable mystery

A theory I had while watching is that the black ooze itself is the entity and it sort of possesses people similar to how venom does but only the ooze has control. When he fell into the whole the ooze chose to switch hosts. I personally don’t think this is correct but it’s I consider
I think the part that horrified me more then anything was they deliberately would round up small children and set them up for a terrifying, horrific, painful death. That’s what made this more terrifying to me then anything.
It’s certainly interesting that the two SCP’s could be connected, although it genuinely seems like the ending is needlessly grotesque. Fuck they could have made it more emotional, made it her who leans in once she realizes who it is not the other way around. But then he backs away, knowing full well that this would kill the woman he loves. To me, it just feels like a missed opportunity as the writer tried to make their story “Scary” for the SCP’s universe and ignored emotional truths that could have been better utilized instead
I would have loved to see this done, but the kiss kills her anyway. That guilt and rage being the final straw the draws 106 entirely into madness and cruelty of its new nature would have been a more conclusive and satisfying ending. But then again, when have SCPs ever cared about being satisfying or conclusive?
@@Valkyriegrl SCP 999?
@@shrekonion598 dude, that's Triple-Nine. You do not bring Triple-Nine into this.
When "horror" evolves into "horrific", I have a bad feeling about what this old man can and will do.
Grandpa, Is That You?
SCP 106: yes
Me: OH HELL NO
Something that I think has given this scp so much staying power as a story is the fact that it has clearly defined, exploitable rules. There are tons of scps (and horror stories in general) where the monster can just kinda do whatever it wants, often having really nebulously defined limits to what it can do and how it can be stopped. 106 has clearly defined limits to its abilities: it can enter its pocket dimension through any surface, but can only exit the dimension from another surface connected to the entry point. So it makes sense that the foundation can contain it by trapping it in a big ass maze-like containment chamber. This also fits in with the concept of the foundation itself, because you can imagine the lengths they had to go to in order to not only discover this weakness, but also to contain it in the first place; and the reader can suspend their disbelief of how such a horrible creature might be contained *because* it has well-defined rules under which it operates. There’s also the groundedness of the containment procedure, which is something that I think has kinda been lost as the wiki has grown: there’s no need for super complex reality anchoring ultra narrative-supersceding metaphysical containment memes. It’s in a big box with numerous layers of lead-lined steel, and there’s a bunch of lights outside of it. Any reader who is aware of its rules could design a similar containment chamber, and such a thing could feasibly be built in the real world. And finally, it lends credence to the necessity of an entity like the foundation to contain it, because it can’t just be stopped by some teenagers with a baseball bat- it IS containable, but it requires the resources that only a large (occult) organization would possess.
