Mrs. Monkey. That was the best most accurate female oriented Sturgis advice I've seen!!! I've spent 36 straight years camping at the "chip". My daughters started coming when they turned 21 my eldest daughter has been going for 13 straight years. I feel that my girls are safer in Sturgis and the Buffalo Chip around thousands of bikers. Then any other time. I'm going to send this to my daughter and my ole lady and see if they agree.

Iron mountain road is very near n dear to my family!!been going up there since I was very young and my dad passed 7 years ago we spread some ashes up at the look out he never missed a trip going up there every time out there. It’s just a very meaningful drive up and moment of happy memories. Looking forward to our trip this year for Sturgis!!

That parking garage idea was actually really good.
My wife looks awesome in a halter/tank top. Dudes have walked up looking at me in the eyes, not looking at her, and asking permission to have a look (Check out) at my wife. Total respect. Sturgis is safe.

There's a big difference in skill level requirement depending on speed. Spearfish canyon at the 35mph speed limit is cake, mobbing through at 60+ is a different story
Absolutely! Not to mention switchbacks at 10-15mph uphill
I've been going to Sturgis since I was VERY young, too young to remember, early 90s. Riding up there one thing I'd add is there are a lot of local cagers who hate the rally and they will try to run you off the road. Be aware.

We are going to our first one, this year. There is like 15 of us going. We rented a huge house. So looking forward to it! My GF already has a bunch of rides she wants to do. I went to SD WAY WAY back, in 89, in the army. I dont really recall it lol, other than it being really, really flat.

Some great pointers here. I rode down for the first time this year and camped at the Chip. Had a great few days, despite the weather. I was lucky to be with a couple buddies that have gone the last 4 or 5 years. Only problem I had was I only took 1 picture the whole time, just my buddy and I's bikes in Deadwood. I'll definitely be going back.

I find it harder at times paying attention riding here in Fla. Up home in Ohio you have twisty's, Hills and other things to keep you on your toes. Here I can see a mile or two in front of me and you tend to get distracted, and that's not a good thing ! But that being said I love Fla.Side Note: That's when riding outside of the city mind you.

I remember my first time going to Daytona Bike Week my experience was so much different compared to my experience there recently. The age of cell phones have definitely tamed the behavior. Sturgis is definitely on my bucket list.
You’re absolutely right. Just from 2017 to now the cell phone thing has gotten out of control.
Same for me, been to Daytona twice, Myrtle Beach countless times( lie in North Carolina) but never made Sturgis, bucket list

24 years, and I have never even seen a fist fight. I'm sure it happens, but rare. I have seen a number of people kicked out of concerts and bars for being more than tipsy, but on the whole it is a very safe rally. I agree, it's no place for newbies. I've stayed at Kickstands and before when it was "Elk View" campground. Fun place. I'll plan on being there on the Thursday before rally. Hope to see you and Mrs ProMonkey there. Wayne out West

I've been staying at Glencoe since 2004. The "scenery" used to be much better until the advent of camera phones. The creepers in the side-by-sides are ruining it too. They cruise around all night 6 creepers per side-by-side on naked lane. I highly doubt they even own a motorcycle.

Great input, one more tip for the folks not familiar with switchbacks in the hills. During the Rally these can be very congested, before you enter a switchback corner make sure you can completely clear the turn before you have to stop, I have seen riders find out the hard way that the ground on the low side of the bike is much further away then they expected..

Yep. About noob riders in Sturgis. I almost had a wreck just out of Rapid City in the rain. It was raining bad and lots of bikes were pulling over under the underpasses. I was behind a guy on a Sportster. He was in the left of the lane, and I was on the right side. No signal and just slowed down and turned in from of me to get under the underpass. Slid bike a little but missed him so just flipped him off and kept going.

Trikes usually takes up two spaces. How well do they fit in? Are wheels just wheels or is it two wheelers here and others over there? I use powerchairs and am working on a tow rig for a trike and want to do Sturgis because of y'all.
Trikes are fine at Sturgis, no worries.

What are the best ways to prevent bike, battery, and/or ECM theft while in Sturgis(outside of locking the handlebars)???
No thefts that I know of. It happens buit it's pretty rare. I have heard of it being a problem in Daytona though....

I'd go, just don't drink and ride carefully.
I’d say as long as she has a doctors ok and is feeling well, go for it. I There’s plenty of beverage alternatives and food options (though I’d bring a ziplock of my favorite craving snacks just in case). I would stay away from really long rides because of the weather and traffic and be extra careful of course if on the bike.

Of course.
Can’t think of one, outside of the small stands, that didn’t have non alcoholic drinks. I don’t drink much when we ride so it’s all diet soda and water. Just always have cash on hand just in case
